A January 2022 discussion does not establish the exact trigger, whether the sound alerts enemies, or whether the issue persists today. Available official information also does not confirm that Ubisoft investigated or fixed this specific glitch.

In a Reddit discussion dated January 24, 2022, a player described an operator who continued gagging after an unpleasant exposure. Replies associated a repeating cough with spores; one commenter also mentioned Bloater gas. These are player accounts and theories, not verified documentation of a consistent trigger or reproducible game behavior. Read the discussion.
Does the cough alert enemies?
The players in that discussion raised the question but did not establish whether enemies could hear or react to the looping sound. The reports therefore do not support a definite yes or no.
Was the Extraction glitch under investigation or fixed?
No official notice specific to this reported Extraction cough loop appears in the available sources. Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Extraction service-status page identifies the game and displayed an update dated September 11, 2026, but does not describe this issue. That omission does not prove Ubisoft never addressed it; it means the available official information does not confirm an investigation or fix.

Why a Rainbow Six Siege patch note is not the fix
Ubisoft’s June 27, 2022 Rainbow Six Siege Y7S2.1 patch notes list a fix for a coughing audio bark when Smoke is affected by Toxic Gas. That is a separate game and a different described bug; the note does not refer to Extraction, spores, or the reported repeating cough loop. See the Siege patch notes.

- Whether the reported behavior can still be reproduced.
- Whether it affected particular platforms or versions.
- Whether the cough consistently followed spores, gas, or another condition.
- Whether the sound could alert enemies.
- Whether Ubisoft later issued an Extraction-specific investigation notice or fix.
A March 25, 2022 article used the phrase “endless coughing” while discussing Extraction, but focused on a separate Game Pass library-access issue and did not establish the cough’s cause, official status, or resolution. Read that coverage.
