If Rainbow Six Siege sounds muffled or too quiet after the Y7S3 update, the patch notes do not confirm that the update caused your particular problem—or that a named fix resolved it. Ubisoft listed broad audio and sound-effects fixes for Y7S3 and Y7S3.1. On PC, you can narrow down the cause by checking your output device, Windows audio format, headset processing, game version, and game files.
What the Y7S3 patch notes actually say
The Y7S3 Brutal Swarm patch-notes addendum includes the entry “FIXED – Various Audio and SFX issues.” The Y7S3.1 notes also summarize a general audio and sound-effects fix. Neither entry identifies a specific muffled-audio defect, describes which players were affected, or confirms that a particular player’s symptom was resolved.
That means the timing may be a useful clue, but it is not enough to establish that Y7S3 caused the issue. The right next step depends on your platform, output device, settings, game build, and which sounds are affected.
Troubleshoot muffled or quiet audio on PC
Try these checks one at a time, retesting Siege after each change. That makes it easier to tell whether the problem follows an output device or a particular audio setting. Ubisoft support suggested these steps in separate support discussions; they are diagnostic tests, not guaranteed Y7S3-specific fixes.

- Compare output devices. Note whether you are using a headset or speakers. If possible, switch to the other device and test the same in-game audio. If the sound changes, focus on the device, its connection, or its software rather than assuming the game itself is the cause.
- Check the motherboard audio driver. If your sound comes through motherboard audio, check the motherboard manufacturer’s support page for an appropriate audio-driver update. Ubisoft support suggested checking motherboard drivers when responding to a low or muffled-audio report.
- Test a simpler Windows audio format. In Windows, open the playback device’s properties and look for its default format setting. Try 16-bit / 44.1 kHz, then retest. Ubisoft support described that as a commonly supported option for games and applications. If the sound changes, you can raise the format settings gradually and test again.
- Turn off virtual-surround or multichannel processing temporarily. In your headset’s companion software, disable virtual surround or other multichannel processing for a test. These features can change how game audio is presented; disabling them helps establish whether processing is involved.
- Update and verify Siege. Confirm that the game is up to date. If the issue persists, verify the game files using the option available in your launcher. A Ubisoft developer recommended updating and verifying files in a later sound-troubleshooting discussion, but that response did not establish a fix for the historical Y7S3 complaint.
What the tests can—and cannot—tell you

No single check proves what caused the complaint. A change after switching devices or settings points to a path worth investigating; it does not by itself show that Y7S3 introduced or fixed a game-wide defect.

- Whether you use a headset or speakers, and how the device connects.
- Whether all sound is quiet, or particular sounds—such as voices, effects, or environmental audio—are missing or muffled.
- Whether another output device changes the symptom.
- Which Windows format or headset-processing settings you tested, and what changed.
- Whether the issue started immediately after a specific update or was already present.
Those details are more useful than attributing the problem to Y7S3 based on timing alone. The available patch-note summaries are broad and do not identify a specific muffled-audio issue.
