If Rainbow Six Siege shows “Uplay has detected an unrecoverable error and must shut down,” first close Ubisoft Connect PC completely and reset its cache by renaming its cache folders. If the launcher opens but Siege still fails, verify the game files in the store launcher where you installed it, then check for software conflicts. The message is a symptom, not a confirmed diagnosis, so these steps are troubleshooting—not a guaranteed fix. “Uplay” is the older name; Ubisoft’s current support instructions refer to Ubisoft Connect PC.
Choose the troubleshooting path by where the failure happens
Note whether Ubisoft Connect crashes before you can log in, opens but fails as Siege starts, or the game starts and then crashes. That timing can help choose what to try first, but Ubisoft has not identified this exact legacy error message with one confirmed cause.
- Launcher fails before login: start by resetting its cache and checking whether the client can update.
- Launcher opens, but Siege will not start: verify Siege’s files, then look for background-app or security-software conflicts.
- Siege runs before failing: record when it fails and include that detail if you contact support; the message alone does not establish the cause.
Reset the Ubisoft Connect cache
Ubisoft’s cache instructions are the most direct first step when the client itself is unstable. Renaming the folders preserves them as backups; Ubisoft Connect creates new cache folders when it restarts.
- Log out of Ubisoft Connect PC, then close it completely. Make sure it is not still running in the background.
- Open the default installation cache folder:
C:Program Files (x86)UbisoftUbisoft Game Launchercache. Rename the foldercache, for example tocache_backup. - Open the user cache folder:
C:Users<Username>AppDataLocalUbisoft Game Launchercache. Replace<Username>with your Windows account name. Rename thiscachefolder too, such as tocache_backup. - Start Ubisoft Connect PC again and check whether the launcher stays open.
If either folder is not at the default location, do not delete unrelated files while searching for it. The paths above are Ubisoft’s listed defaults.

If Ubisoft Connect opens but Siege still fails, verify the game files
Verifying checks the installed game files and can restore files that are missing or corrupted. Ubisoft’s instructions are for games in Ubisoft Connect; use the corresponding verification option in Steam or Epic if you own Siege there.
- In Ubisoft Connect, open Library and select Rainbow Six Siege.
- Select the cog beside Play.
- Choose Verify files and let the check finish before trying to launch the game again.

Check updates, background apps, and security software
Ubisoft recommends keeping Connect PC updated, closing background applications while launching the client and game, and checking whether firewall or antivirus software is blocking the client. A blocked connection can also leave the client offline and prevent it from installing updates automatically.
- Check that Ubisoft Connect PC is online and up to date.
- Close unnecessary background applications, then try launching the client and Siege again.
- Check your firewall or antivirus settings for a block affecting Ubisoft Connect. Do not leave security protections disabled as a permanent workaround.

Reinstall Ubisoft Connect only after the simpler checks
Before uninstalling the launcher, close it and back up your save files. Ubisoft’s uninstall flow lets you choose whether to retain installed games and local save files, so read that choice carefully. Do not delete Siege’s installation folder or save data as an initial troubleshooting step.

- Uninstall Ubisoft Connect PC, paying attention to the options for keeping or removing installed games and local save files.
- Delete the launcher installation’s

What to send Ubisoft Support if the error continues
If the launcher still crashes or Siege remains unplayable, contact Ubisoft Support. Include when the failure occurs, whether the game is installed through Ubisoft Connect, Steam, or Epic, your Windows version, and which troubleshooting steps you tried. Provide crash or diagnostic files if Ubisoft requests them through the support case. The Rainbow Six Siege support directory lists game-specific help, but it does not establish a single cause for this exact error wording.
