Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →There is no single Rainbow Six Siege lag fix. The solution depends on whether the delay comes from Ubisoft’s servers, your ISP route, Wi-Fi, router configuration, or the PC or console itself. Start with the reversible checks: review the official Siege service status, test Ethernet, stop downloads and uploads, restart your modem, router and device, then test packet loss rather than relying on download speed.
- Check Ubisoft service status.
- Switch to Ethernet if possible.
- Pause game, cloud and household downloads.
- Restart the modem, router and gaming device.
- Compare Siege with other games or another network.
Identify the type of lag first
Ping or latency is the round-trip time between your device and the game server, measured in milliseconds. Jitter is variation between successive latency readings: a stable 50 ms connection is usually better than one that jumps between 30 and 150 ms. Packet loss means data fails to arrive or arrives too late, causing missing hit registration, voice-chat issues, disconnects and teleporting. Rubber-banding occurs when Siege corrects your position after delayed or missing updates.

As practical, non-official guidelines, under roughly 50 ms is usually excellent when stable, 50–80 ms is commonly playable, 80–120 ms becomes increasingly noticeable, and more than 120 ms is likely disadvantageous in a competitive shooter. Spikes and loss are often worse than a consistently moderate ping.

Do not confuse network lag with FPS stutter. If FPS drops or frame time rises while ping and packet-loss indicators remain normal, investigate CPU or GPU load, drivers, shaders, overlays, thermals and display settings instead.

Use the symptoms to narrow the cause
| What happens | Most likely areas to investigate |
|---|---|
| Every online game and device is affected | Wi-Fi, router, modem, ISP congestion, cable, network adapter or neighborhood fault |
| Only Siege is affected | Ubisoft service, ISP routing to Ubisoft, Siege firewall/NAT behavior, server selection or a game update |
| Only one device is affected | Wireless adapter, driver, cable, firewall, background software or device configuration |
| Lag starts when somebody streams or uploads | Upload saturation and bufferbloat |
| A different network fixes it | Your home router, ISP route, congestion or NAT configuration |
Check whether Siege is having a service problem
Open Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Siege Service Status page before changing router settings. Check for maintenance, degraded services or incidents, then test again after the incident is resolved. Also check official Rainbow Six communications if an incident is suspected.
A green status page cannot prove that every data center, platform service or ISP route is healthy. If players in several locations report the same problem, or only one region appears affected, treat a server-side or routing fault as plausible rather than immediately blaming your Wi-Fi. Ubisoft has documented server-performance problems causing abnormal latency, rubber-banding, hit-registration issues and connectivity warnings.
Try the fastest fixes
Test with Ethernet
- Connect the PC or console directly to the router.
- Temporarily disable Wi-Fi on the device so it cannot switch connections.
- Try another Ethernet cable and router port.
- Avoid powerline adapters during diagnosis if possible.
- Play several matches under the same conditions.
If Ethernet solves the issue, the likely cause is wireless interference, weak signal, congestion, roaming, an extender or a wireless driver. If it does not, continue with router, ISP, route, NAT and service checks.
Restart the connection correctly
- Close Siege and restart or shut down the gaming device.
- Unplug the modem and router for at least 30 seconds.
- Power on the modem first and wait for ISP synchronization.
- Power on the router, reconnect the device and test.
This clears temporary state and renegotiates the connection. It does not repair an ISP route, damaged cable, overloaded node or Ubisoft outage.
Stop competing traffic
Pause Steam, Ubisoft Connect, Epic, Windows and console downloads. Stop cloud backup, torrents, livestreaming and large uploads. Check Task Manager or your platform’s network panel. Upload saturation can cause severe ping spikes even when advertised download speed is high.

- Cat 8 Speed, Cat 5/5e Value Enjoy Cat 8 Ethernet cable performance at a Cat 5/5e-level value. With up to 40Gbps speed and 2000MHz bandwidth, this high speed internet cable delivers more bandwidth than standard Cat 5 and Cat 5e cables, helping support smooth gaming, streaming, video calls, large file transfers and everyday wired network use.
- 40Gbps Speed, Wide Compatibility This Cat 8 Ethernet cable supports up to 40Gbps data transfer and 2000MHz bandwidth for fast, reliable internet performance. Standard RJ45 connectors are backward compatible with Cat7, Cat6, Cat6a and Cat5e devices, including routers, modems, switches, gaming PCs, PS5, PS4, Xbox, smart TVs, laptops and printers.
- Stable U/FTP Shielding Each of the 4 twisted pairs is individually wrapped with aluminum foil to help reduce crosstalk, noise, and signal interference. Combined with RJ45 connectors on both ends, the U/FTP design helps maintain cleaner signal transmission for a stable and reliable wired network connection.
- Nylon Braided Durability The nylon braided jacket adds everyday durability while keeping the cable flexible and easy to route. Reinforced construction helps the cord handle bending, pulling and frequent plugging, making it a reliable choice for desks, gaming rooms, home offices and long-term network setups.
- 50ft Reach for More Setups The 50 ft length makes it easier to connect devices across rooms, along walls, under desks or around corners. Great for router-to-PC connections, modem-to-TV setups, gaming consoles, workstations, printers and other home network equipment that needs a longer Ethernet cable.
Fix Wi-Fi lag and packet loss
- Move closer to the router.
- Use 5 GHz or 6 GHz when the device is close enough for a reliable signal.
- Use 2.4 GHz when range and wall penetration matter more than congestion.
- Separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz network names temporarily to test each band.
- Test without a mesh node or extender.
- Move the router away from metal, cabinets, microwaves and dense obstructions.
- Update router firmware and the PC wireless driver.
- Test at different times of day for ISP or neighborhood congestion.
5 GHz and 6 GHz are generally faster and less congested but have shorter range; 2.4 GHz travels farther but is more vulnerable to interference. Do not assume manually changing the Wi-Fi channel will help: automatic channel selection may already be better for your environment.
Test packet loss and routes on Windows
Open Command Prompt. Replace 192.168.1.1 with your actual default gateway if necessary.
Recommended Free Tools
ping 192.168.1.1 -n 50
ping 1.1.1.1 -n 50
ping 8.8.8.8 -n 50
- Loss or large spikes to the router suggest Wi-Fi, cable, adapter or router trouble.
- A clean router result but loss to public IP addresses points toward the modem, ISP or upstream route.
- Clean public pings do not prove that the route to a Siege server is healthy.
Use ipconfig /all to record your IPv4 address, default gateway, DNS servers, connection type and IPv6 status.
tracert 1.1.1.1
pathping 1.1.1.1
tracert can show where latency appears, but intermediate routers may deprioritize or block diagnostic traffic. A timeout at one hop does not automatically mean game traffic is being lost. pathping takes longer and can reveal persistent loss across a route, but neither command directly measures the Siege server path. See Microsoft’s references for ping, ipconfig, tracert and pathping.
Flush DNS and reset Windows networking only when appropriate
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset
Run these in an elevated Command Prompt and restart Windows afterward. They may help with corrupted local configuration, but DNS flushing does not lower in-match latency after connection, and Winsock or IP resets cannot fix ISP congestion or server-side loss. Do not repeatedly change DNS as a primary ping fix, and never leave security software disabled permanently.

Reduce bufferbloat with QoS or SQM
Bufferbloat occurs when a router builds very deep queues while a connection is downloading or uploading. Basic QoS prioritizes devices or applications; SQM or active queue management attempts to keep those queues short. A router’s “gaming mode” is only a label and is not automatically effective.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Record idle ping.
- Start a large download and upload.
- Check whether latency rises sharply.
- Enable the router’s QoS or SQM function.
- Enter realistic upload and download limits, not simply the advertised maximum.
- Repeat the same loaded test and keep the setting only if latency improves without instability.
The correct limits depend on your ISP technology, modem, router and measured line rate, so there is no universal percentage that works for everyone. Limits can improve responsiveness while reducing peak throughput.
Check NAT, UPnP, double NAT and firewall settings
NAT affects how devices communicate through your router. Strict or moderate NAT can restrict multiplayer connectivity, but NAT type alone does not explain every case of high ping or packet loss.
- Check NAT status on the platform.
- Use UPnP only if you understand the router’s security trade-off.
- If UPnP fails, assign the device a stable local IP and use current Ubisoft documentation for manual port forwarding.
- Check for double NAT: an ISP gateway plus personal router, or a mesh system behind a modem/router.
- Use bridge mode or a supported access-point arrangement where appropriate.
Avoid old port lists copied from third-party guides unless current Ubisoft support confirms them. Do not forward everything, put a console in a DMZ as a casual fix, or expose a device unnecessarily. General NAT concepts are explained by this NAT and port-forwarding reference, but platform requirements can change.
IPv4 and IPv6 edge cases
Ubisoft has historically documented Siege connection issues involving some IPv6 configurations and advised ensuring IPv4 support. That is not a universal 2026 fix. If the issue began after an ISP or router change, compare IPv4 and IPv6 behavior and ask the ISP whether you use native IPv6, a tunnel, CGNAT or DS-Lite. Do not permanently disable IPv6 without understanding the consequences. If IPv4 works while IPv6 consistently fails only for Siege, report that evidence to both Ubisoft and the ISP.

PC-specific checks
- Update Windows, network-adapter drivers, Siege and Ubisoft Connect.
- Verify game files through Steam, Epic or Ubisoft Connect.
- Allow Siege, Ubisoft Connect and required anti-cheat components through the firewall.
- Temporarily test without a VPN, traffic shaper, overlay, antivirus web filter or packet-inspection tool.
- Close launchers, browsers, cloud-sync tools and recording software that upload data.
- Compare FPS and frame time with Siege’s network indicators to separate rendering stutter from connection problems.
For a controlled firewall test, use the operating system’s temporary permission settings and restore protection immediately afterward. Do not permanently disable Windows Defender Firewall or antivirus protection.
PlayStation and Xbox checks
- Use Ethernet and restart the console and router.
- Check platform service status and run the console’s built-in connection test.
- Check NAT status.
- Pause downloads and updates.
- Remove and recreate the Wi-Fi connection if settings appear corrupted.
- Test another network, such as a phone hotspot, only briefly as a diagnostic.
Console tests usually measure platform services rather than the exact Siege route. A hotspot can isolate your home ISP, but cellular connections often have variable jitter, strict NAT, data limits and congestion.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Server selection and unusual routes
Ubisoft says Siege attempts to select a server with the lowest ping based on the player’s location, but the selected region and the real-world network route are not always the same. You may therefore have normal latency in other games while receiving poor routing to Siege.
Suspect a region or route issue when ping is stable but unusually high from the beginning of every match, teammates nearby have normal ping, the issue began after an ISP or game update, or only one region appears affected. Avoid unsupported configuration-file workarounds that force a region; they can become obsolete and create matchmaking problems.
Should you use a VPN or gaming-route service?
Only test one after local troubleshooting. A VPN or route-optimization service may use a better peering path and reduce loss or jitter, but it can also add latency, reduce throughput, create NAT complications or introduce another privacy and software-trust concern. If it helps consistently over several matches, that is evidence that your normal ISP route may be poor—not proof that VPNs are intrinsically faster.

Do not buy a “gaming DNS,” router or subscription service on a guarantee that it eliminates packet loss. Hardware purchases make sense only after testing shows a Wi-Fi, router or queueing problem.
When to contact your ISP
Contact the ISP when the router itself shows loss, multiple devices or games are affected, wired and wireless connections both fail, the issue is worse at predictable busy times, modem logs show repeated disconnections, public-IP tests show persistent loss, or another network fixes Siege.
Provide exact dates and times, wired versus Wi-Fi results, device and platform, visible Siege region, screenshots of ping/jitter/loss, trace or pathping results, other affected games and whether the problem occurs under load. Ask for investigation of line quality, modem signal levels, routing, congestion and packet loss—not just a speed test or a faster download tier.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhen to contact Ubisoft
Use Ubisoft Support or R6Fix when service status is normal but only Siege is affected, multiple networks reproduce the issue, one Siege region is consistently problematic, a patch clearly preceded it, or recurring connection and matchmaking errors appear.
Include platform, region, dates and times, error codes, network type, whether Ethernet changes the result, affected devices, other games tested and any repeatable packet-loss evidence. A single bad match is not enough to establish a persistent network fault, but repeatable results across networks are valuable evidence.
Quick troubleshooting decision tree
- Service incident listed? Wait for Ubisoft’s incident to clear.
- Loss or spikes to the router? Fix Wi-Fi, cable, adapter or router hardware.
- Wi-Fi only? Use Ethernet, test another band and remove extenders from the path.
- Ping spikes under load? Configure and retest QoS/SQM.
- All games and devices affected? Investigate the router, modem and ISP.
- Only Siege affected? Check Ubisoft service, routing, firewall, NAT, IPv4/IPv6 and the game client.
- Another network works? Escalate the home ISP or test an alternate route carefully.
The Bottom Line
Diagnose before buying or changing anything: check Ubisoft’s status, test Ethernet, stop background traffic, measure packet loss and investigate bufferbloat. If every game is affected, pursue the router or ISP; if only Siege is affected across multiple networks, report the evidence to Ubisoft.
