Ubisoft later said the rollback was complete and reopened the game; its January 2026 update said player inventories had been restored. A Ubisoft service-status snapshot dated September 25, 2026, showed no listed issues, but check the live status page for current availability.
Why did Ubisoft shut down Siege?
On December 27, 2025, Ubisoft acknowledged an incident and said it had intentionally shut down both Rainbow Six Siege and the Marketplace while its team worked on a resolution. The shutdown was a response to activity affecting the game’s in-game systems; it was not described as a planned maintenance window.
In a statement quoted by Lawrence Abrams in BleepingComputer’s December 28, 2025 report, Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Siege account said: “Siege and the Marketplace have been intentionally shut down while the team focuses on resolving the issue.”
What happened in the game?
BleepingComputer described reports from players and screenshots showing unauthorized bans and unbans, fake messages appearing in the ban ticker, and accounts receiving large amounts of R6 Credits and Renown as well as unlocked cosmetics. The report said the ban-ticker messages were not generated by Ubisoft; the ticker had already been disabled. These are reported effects, not a complete technical account published by Ubisoft.

The same report described claims about much larger compromises, including possible access to source code or customer data, but said those claims could not be independently verified. The in-game activity was the confirmed public evidence in that December reporting. On January 30, 2026, Ubisoft said there was no indication that player personal data or source code had been compromised. That is Ubisoft’s assessment, not an independently verified forensic conclusion.
What did Ubisoft do about credits and accounts?
Ubisoft updates reproduced in BleepingComputer said transactions made from 11:00 UTC would be rolled back, and players would not be banned for spending credits they had received during the incident. Ubisoft later said the rollback was complete.

Ubisoft then described a limited soft launch for live testing, followed by reopening to all players. It warned that queues could occur as services ramped up. Those updates addressed the immediate game disruption; Ubisoft’s later player-protection update covered follow-up account and Marketplace measures.
Are Siege servers back up now?
Ubisoft’s service-status page snapshot, updated September 25, 2026, listed no issues for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or Xbox One. That is a dated snapshot rather than a guarantee of availability at another time. For a current outage check, consult Ubisoft’s live service-status page.

That statement describes the position in January 2026, not the Marketplace’s current status. Check Ubisoft’s live status page for current service information.

What is confirmed—and what remains uncertain?
- Confirmed by Ubisoft: The game and Marketplace were intentionally shut down; Ubisoft described a rollback, said players would not be banned for spending received credits, and later reported reopening and rollback completion.
- Reported by players and BleepingComputer: Unauthorized ban and unban activity, fake ban-ticker messages, and credits, Renown, and cosmetics appearing on accounts. The reported scale of currency grants was not an Ubisoft-confirmed figure.
- Not established by the December reporting: Claims of source-code access or customer-data theft. Ubisoft later said it had no indication that personal data or source code was compromised.
- Historical context, not an explanation of this incident: Ubisoft’s June 11, 2020 status report described connectivity as depending on internet providers, Ubisoft backend services such as matchmaking, game servers and their provider, and exposure to DDoS attacks. It does not identify the cause of the 2025 incident. In that 2020 report, Ubisoft said more than 98.5% of matches ended successfully without an individual connection loss, high-ping kick, or server crash; that figure applies only to the period covered by the report, not current reliability.
