Rauniot is a single-player isometric point-and-click adventure set in a devastated Northern Finland. Its appeal is careful exploration, puzzle-solving and an unusually specific Finnish setting—not action-survival combat. It is a fit for players who enjoy methodical adventures and can handle mature material; those seeking a fast-paced survival game or English voice acting should look elsewhere.

What kind of game is Rauniot?

Developed and published by Act Normal Games, Rauniot launched on April 17, 2024. The Steam listing describes it as an isometric post-apocalyptic point-and-click adventure. Its story begins after a massive natural disaster in 1975, following Aino and a group trying to secure necessities and protect one another. Steam’s game page frames the experience around its setting and adventure structure, rather than presenting it as a conventional combat-focused survival game.

Steam’s user-defined tags include horror, but that label alone does not capture the game’s focus. Expect bleak post-disaster atmosphere and mature subject matter alongside exploration and puzzles; the central play loop is not action horror.

How do exploration and puzzles work?

Act Normal Games advertises more than 70 detailed scenes, puzzles with varying difficulty and order, and an informative notebook. Those features point to a game built around examining locations, connecting clues and keeping track of what you learn. The notebook is intended to support progression, while the option to approach puzzles in varying order suggests that every obstacle need not be tackled in one fixed sequence.

Video Game Champion, Strategy Board Game for 2-5 Players, 16-Bit Nostalgia
  • Relive the '90s – Immerse yourself in the golden age of 16-bit video games, competing to become the ultimate Video Game Champion.
  • Competitive Strategy – Manage your time and resources between earning money, renting games, studying, and mastering video game strategies.
  • For 2-5 Players – Perfect for game nights with friends, where 2-5 players can compete in a 50-90 minute gaming session.
  • 90s Nostalgia – Beg your parents for new games, buy magazines, and play your favorite titles – all wrapped in retro vibes!
  • Great Replayability – With unique strategic decisions, each game brings fresh challenges and new paths to victory.

That deliberate pace is likely to suit players who enjoy working through adventure-game logic. It may frustrate anyone looking for constant action or a story that moves forward without pauses for investigation. Metacritic’s surfaced review summaries are mixed on execution: one praises the fast-travel system and logical puzzles while criticizing thin storytelling and design choices; another says the attempt at grim post-apocalyptic horror only partly succeeds. These are individual critical perspectives, not a comprehensive consensus.

What is the atmosphere and story like?

The Northern Finland setting gives Rauniot a distinct identity, and the premise grounds its bleakness in practical concerns: people trying to find necessities and mutual protection after disaster. Its mood is shaped by that harsh world and by the characters’ circumstances, not just by a horror label. The store’s content notice names violence, blood, gore, strong language, self-harm and other mature content, so it is not suitable for every player.

One Steam user review describes a soundscape with “almost no music, mostly crows and wind.” That is one player’s observation rather than an official specification, but it conveys the kind of sparse, environmental atmosphere some players may encounter. The available critical summaries also suggest that the story and character writing may be less compelling than the puzzles and setting.

Does Rauniot have English voice acting?

No. Steam’s language table lists Finnish as the only language with full audio. English has interface and subtitle support, but not full voice acting. The developer highlights Finnish voice acting, including a North Finland accent, as part of the game’s regional character. French, German, Spanish (Spain), Polish, Russian, Italian and Brazilian Portuguese are also listed for interface and subtitles.

What are Rauniot’s PC requirements?

The Windows minimum requirements listed on Steam are Windows 10, an Intel i5 2.67 GHz processor or equivalent, 8 GB RAM, a GTX 760 or equivalent graphics card, DirectX 9.0c and 11 GB of storage. The recommended Windows processor is an Intel i7 3.50 GHz or equivalent, and the recommended graphics card is a GTX 780 or equivalent. Steam does not state separate recommended memory or storage values in the listed requirements.

The Linux memory and storage values displayed on the store page appear implausibly small beside the Windows requirements, so they should not be relied on as a practical compatibility guide without confirmation. Check the current listing for platform-specific details before installing.

What do reviews say about Rauniot?

The Steam listing showed a “Very Positive” user-review label in the snapshots available for this article, but the counts and percentages differed between snapshots and locales. Those figures are volatile; consult the current Steam listing for its live rating rather than relying on an undated number.

The professional-review summaries surfaced at Metacritic point to both strengths and reservations: puzzle logic and fast travel receive praise in one, while thin storytelling and design choices draw criticism; another finds the grim horror approach only partly successful. Together, these indicate areas to weigh when deciding whether the game suits you, not a definitive review consensus.

Who should play Rauniot?

  • Check the language details first if you need English voice acting; the listed English support is for interface and subtitles.
  • Read the content notice if violence, gore, strong language or self-harm are concerns.
