Razer’s Hammerhead V3 Wired Earbuds, announced on June 18, 2025, combine a conventional 3.5mm TRRS connection with an included USB-C DAC adapter. That makes them suitable for compatible phones, tablets, laptops, handhelds, PCs, and consoles through supported controllers—without Bluetooth pairing or battery charging.
One clarification matters: these are not the newer Hammerhead V3 HyperSpeed. The HyperSpeed model is wireless, uses a 2.4GHz USB-C receiver and Bluetooth, and does not replace the wired model’s USB-C DAC adapter.

What Razer announced
The Hammerhead V3 Wired Earbuds are wired in-ear gaming earbuds designed for players who move between multiple devices. Razer positions them around two connection options:

Razer’s announcement describes the product as a portable, cross-device audio solution. In practical terms, its flexibility comes from carrying both an analog headset plug and a digital USB-C audio adapter rather than relying on wireless connectivity. Razer’s announcement dates the launch to June 18, 2025.

What is included

- Hammerhead V3 wired earbuds
- 1.2-meter non-tangle TPE cable
- In-line controller with volume, multifunction, mute, media, and assistant functions
- 3.5mm TRRS audio connection
- USB Type-C DAC adapter
- Three interchangeable silicone eartip sizes
The interchangeable tips are important for an in-ear design: fit affects passive isolation, comfort, and how securely the earbuds stay in place. However, official specifications alone cannot establish real-world comfort or microphone quality for every user.
What the USB-C DAC adapter actually does
The earbuds themselves use a wired 3.5mm connection. The included adapter allows that analog headset to connect to a USB-C device by handling the digital-to-analog conversion required for USB audio. It is therefore more than a passive plug converter, but it is not evidence that the earbuds are an audiophile-grade USB DAC system.
Razer specifies the adapter at 24-bit/48kHz and requires a USB Type-C port that supports audio and HID functions. The published specification should not be expanded into a claim of 24-bit/96kHz support. A Razer Insider discussion also cautions against assuming that higher 96kHz playback is available.

Razer markets the adapter for USB-C iPhones, Android phones, tablets, laptops, and handhelds, but the individual device must support USB-C audio. A USB-C port that only provides charging or data will not necessarily produce sound through the adapter.

Razer describes the acoustic cavities as being intended to reduce sound leakage. That is a design claim, not an independent measurement of isolation or leakage performance.

Platform compatibility: what works where
Razer’s support documentation lists compatibility with PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 official controllers, Xbox Series controllers, Nintendo Switch, iPhone 15 and newer, Samsung Galaxy and other Android smartphones, PC, and Mac. The connection method differs by platform.
PlayStation and Xbox
For PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series systems, the most straightforward route is usually the controller’s compatible 3.5mm headset jack. That means console support depends partly on the specific controller and its headset implementation; “multi-platform” does not mean that every console feature is guaranteed through every USB port or accessory.

The 3.5mm connection is the relevant option for compatible Switch hardware. If using another USB-C setup, confirm that the particular Switch configuration and accessory arrangement supports USB audio and microphone input as required.
iPhone and Android
The official list specifically names iPhone 15 and newer, which use USB-C. The included adapter is therefore relevant to those models. Older Lightning iPhones are not covered by the adapter alone and would require a separate compatible solution.
Android compatibility likewise depends on USB-C audio support. Samsung Galaxy devices are listed by Razer, but users should still account for model-specific behavior, protective cases, and microphone permissions.

PC and Mac
Computers can use either a compatible 3.5mm headset input or the USB-C DAC adapter. The USB-C route is particularly useful on laptops that lack a combined headset jack. On a desktop, the available 3.5mm port layout may determine whether the single TRRS plug works directly or requires a suitable headset connection.
PC software and gaming features
The in-line microphone and physical controls are usable without wireless pairing or an app. On PC, Razer Synapse adds configuration options, including microphone sensitivity adjustment and THX 7.1 audio customization.
Those THX features should not be treated as universal console or mobile functions. On PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, phones, and tablets, the earbuds should generally be considered conventional wired stereo earbuds unless the platform provides its own spatial-audio processing. Synapse is primarily relevant to PC configuration.
The wired design also has two practical advantages: it avoids Bluetooth latency and does not require charging. Its disadvantages are equally straightforward: the cable can snag, handling noise can travel through the cable, and the USB-C adapter occupies a port.

The Hammerhead V3 HyperSpeed announcement describes a wireless model whose USB-C component is a receiver/dongle system, not the wired V3’s DAC adapter. Razer’s HyperSpeed support material contains conflicting Bluetooth-version references—Bluetooth 6.0 in one section and Bluetooth 5.3 in another—so that detail should not be treated as settled without checking the current product documentation.
Choose the wired V3 if you want a passive connection, no battery management, and both 3.5mm and USB-C options. Consider the HyperSpeed model if wireless operation, hybrid ANC, and a receiver-based gaming setup matter more.
USB-C troubleshooting
No sound through USB-C
- Push the adapter fully into the device.
- Select the Hammerhead V3 or USB audio output in the device’s sound settings.
- Confirm that the USB-C port supports audio output, not merely charging or data.
- Remove a thick case if it prevents the connector from seating completely.
- Test the 3.5mm connection to separate an earbud fault from a USB-C compatibility problem.
Razer states that the adapter supports cases up to 3mm thick. A case thicker than that, or a recessed port, can prevent a reliable connection.
The microphone does not work
Check that the device supports headset microphone input over USB-C, that the 3.5mm connection is a four-pole TRRS headset connection, and that the in-line mute function is not engaged. Also verify that the operating system or console has selected the Hammerhead microphone rather than another input device.
On a controller, microphone behavior can depend on the controller’s headset support and the platform’s voice-chat settings. Fully reseat both the 3.5mm plug and the USB-C adapter when applicable.
Who should buy the wired Hammerhead V3?
The wired model makes the most sense for:
- Players who do not want to charge earbuds.
- Handheld gamers who need a compact wired option.
- Users moving between controllers, phones, tablets, laptops, and PCs.
- People who want to avoid Bluetooth pairing and wireless latency.
- USB-C phone users who still want to use conventional wired earbuds.
It is a weaker fit for anyone specifically seeking wireless freedom, active noise cancellation, or independently verified high-resolution USB audio. The 24-bit/48kHz DAC specification is adequate as a compatibility feature, but it should not be marketed as proof of superior sound quality without independent testing.
Before buying, verify the exact port on the device or controller, whether it supports microphone input, and whether a case or handheld accessory interferes with the USB-C adapter. Basic wired audio is simple; cross-platform compatibility still depends on the port and operating system at the other end.
