For players who still have access to the game, the sound approach to better cars and faster upgrades is to check each event’s Performance Rating (PR) requirement, build Driver power through racing, and choose event-specific tuning deliberately. There are no verified cheat codes or hacks here; these are legitimate strategies based on EA’s documented game mechanics.
How do I get better cars and upgrade faster in Real Racing 3?
Progress efficiently by improving the car only as much as the event requires, while developing the Driver whose power carries between events. Motorsport tuning can raise a car’s PR, which may be required to unlock or enter event stages. Tuning improves four dimensions: Top Speed, Brakes, Acceleration, and Grip. EA’s tuning update says, “All four Power Tunes contribute to the average.” EA’s Motorsport Tuning update describes the system.
- Check the event’s PR gate first. Compare the required PR with your car’s current rating before purchasing tuning steps.
- Check Driver level before spending on tuning. EA says a sufficiently levelled Driver may reduce how much tuning is needed to meet an event’s PR gate.
- Race to earn Driver XP. Drivers gain XP from racing, and EA says better race results earn more. Aim for stronger results when practical rather than treating every race as only a way to grind.
- Make only the purchases needed for your goal. A small PR shortfall may not justify buying every available step, especially because purchased tuning cannot be undone.
These are ways to use the documented systems, not a guaranteed shortcut: EA’s materials do not establish universal upgrade costs, a best car for every event, or a single fastest route through all content.
Which upgrades should I buy first?
There is no universal best upgrade order in the available EA guidance. Choose tuning around the event’s PR requirement, your car’s current stats, the track, your Driver level, and the cost and irreversibility of the steps. Tuning is event-specific, so a choice made for one Special Event does not automatically carry over to another.

For an event with long straights
Top Speed may be valuable on a layout with long straights. EA’s example discusses adding gearbox tuning for higher Le Mans top speed, while warning that underweighting braking can reduce the setup’s overall balance. Treat that as a track-specific trade-off, not a blanket instruction to maximize Top Speed.
For a balanced setup
Consider how Top Speed, Brakes, Acceleration, and Grip work together rather than focusing on a single stat. The PR system accounts for all four Power Tunes, so a gain in one area does not make the others irrelevant. Start from the event’s demands and your current rating, then avoid buying more steps than you need.

Before committing to a tuning step
- Confirm the target PR gate and how far your car is from it.
- Review current car stats and the track’s mix of straights and corners.
- Account for Driver level and persistent Driver power.
- Check the tuning cost and wait time relevant to your situation.
- Remember that tuning is specific to the event and purchased steps cannot be removed.
How do tuning and Drivers affect PR?
Tuning raises a car’s performance across four dimensions and contributes to its PR. Event-specific PR gates can make that rating a progression requirement. Drivers provide another route to meeting those gates: their levels can reduce the amount of tuning required. Unlike an event’s tuning setup, Driver power persists across events and content.
Drivers earn XP by racing. EA’s guidance says better race results earn more XP. That makes Driver development useful beyond a single event, while tuning decisions should be evaluated for the particular event in which they apply.

What does not work as a safe upgrade strategy?
Buying every tuning step by default
EA’s FAQ says tuning steps are additive and cannot be removed after purchase. The official FAQ states: “Tuning Steps are currently only additive. There is no way to remove a Tuning Step after it has been purchased.” Read the Motorsport Tuning FAQ before treating a step as a temporary experiment.
Assuming one setup carries across events
Each event has its own tuning setup. Driver and Principal power carries between events, but event tuning does not. Reassess the PR gate and track rather than assuming an earlier setup will solve the next event’s requirements.

As reported in an EA-hosted forum reply citing EA’s announcement, Real Racing 3 was delisted for new downloads on December 18, 2025, and permanently shut down on March 19, 2026. The original EA announcement, titled “The Final Lap,” was not retrievable when these dates were checked, so the dates should be understood as reported by that forum reply rather than independently confirmed from the announcement text. The EA Forums reply reporting the dates is the available reference.

Whether an existing installation continues to work offline after the shutdown has not been established. Do not assume you can newly download the game, connect to its services, access events, or use online features.

How to decide what to do for a specific event
- Read the event’s PR gate. Note the rating required for the stage you want to enter.
- Inspect your car and Driver. Compare current stats and PR with the requirement, and check whether Driver level could reduce the tuning needed.
- Consider the track. Weigh straights against corners and braking demands instead of maximizing one stat without regard to balance.
- Choose the minimum useful tuning commitment. Remember that tuning applies to that event and purchased steps cannot be removed.
- Build persistent progression through racing. Earn Driver XP, aiming for better results when practical, so Driver power can help across events.
