That is a reported modded-console demonstration—not the performance ordinary PS5 owners get from the retail game, and not evidence of a sustained average.
What the 108.47 FPS report says
GameGPU reports that a modder using the alias callmemaj0r showed gameplay on a base PS5 with a counter reading 108.47 FPS. The report describes modified firmware and code injection through CheatRunner to remove the game’s internal frame-rate limit. It does not document a hardware clock overclock, despite the “overclocked” wording sometimes used for the result. GameGPU’s report
The number is a single displayed reading. The available report does not establish how long the game stayed near that rate, how performance changed between scenes, what resolution or image quality was used, or whether the demonstration was reproduced by another tester. It should not be described as a verified average, a stable 100-plus FPS mode, or a result available through a normal PS5 setting.
How that differs from playing on a retail PS5
Rockstar confirmed in 2020 that the PS4 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 is playable on PS5 through backward compatibility. That confirmation does not describe a native PS5 edition or a performance upgrade. Rockstar’s backward-compatibility announcement

A technical overview updated August 6, 2026 characterizes ordinary PS5 play as the PS4 Pro version with a 30 FPS cap, and says no native PS5 release or official upgrade is available. Can you get 100 FPS with your own PS5?
Not through the unmodified retail game or a standard PS5 setting. GameGPU describes modified firmware and code injection, making the reported method distinct from normal backward-compatible play. The report does not provide evidence that the same result is safe, stable, repeatable, or available to other players; it also does not establish a supported way to reproduce it.

Playing the PS4 version on PS5
If you already own the PS4 version, Rockstar says it is playable on PS5 via backward compatibility. For a physical copy, the console must have a disc drive: Rockstar’s instructions specify installing first from the Data Disc, then inserting the Play Disc to complete installation and launch the game. A PS4 disc is therefore relevant if you need the game, but buying it does not unlock the reported modification, remove the retail frame-rate cap, or convert the game into a native PS5 edition.
