This guide covers cheat phrases for the original Red Dead Redemption (RDR1), not Red Dead Redemption 2. To enter one, pause the game and open Options → Cheats, then use the prompt shown for your platform. Cheats can be toggled from that menu after you unlock them, but activating any cheat disables autosaving and blocks Achievements or Trophies. Save first and keep a clean save if you want to preserve normal progression.
How to enter a cheat code
- Pause the game and choose Options → Cheats.
- Select the prompt to enter a phrase. The reported controls are Triangle on PlayStation, Y on Xbox, X on Nintendo Switch, and F on PC. If F does not match your PC setup, follow the on-screen prompt.
- Type the full phrase, including its punctuation, and confirm it. Phrases are not case-sensitive, but spelling and punctuation matter.
- Once accepted, the cheat appears in the menu, where you can toggle it.
Some cheats are already available in the menu; others require entering a phrase. GamesRadar counts 39 cheats in total and says just under half are available from the start. Hidden phrases may be found around the world, including on buildings and in newspapers. The former Social Club-linked entries are also listed in the cheat menu.

Save and achievement effects
Activating a cheat disables autosaving and blocks Achievements or Trophies. Turning the cheat off does not restore eligibility for that session or save state. To return to normal progression, reload a clean save made before using cheats. Some spawn-type cheats may not be enterable during an activity.
Phrase-entered cheats and effects
Enter the phrase exactly as shown, including punctuation. Capitalization is normalized here for readability. If the menu uses a different label, follow the in-game wording.

Which version does this guide cover?
The phrase-entry system here is for the original Red Dead Redemption. Rockstar currently lists the game for PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One through backward compatibility, as well as newer editions for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and mobile/Netflix. The cheat guides explicitly cover the classic menu on PS4, Switch, PC, Xbox 360, and PS3. Phrase behavior is reported to carry forward, but not every current edition or keyboard/controller setup has been independently verified here.
For Xbox, the documented classic versions include Xbox 360; Rockstar also lists Xbox One backward compatibility. Use the prompt shown in your installed edition rather than assuming every Xbox release has identical input behavior. This is not a guide to Red Dead Redemption 2, whose cheat system is different.
