Red Dead Redemption’s October 2024 Steam debut drew 8,697 concurrent players at its peak, and the game received Very Positive English-language reviews on Steam. Those are signs of a strong reception, but they do not reveal how many copies sold. No official Steam sales total is available in the sources cited here, so “big hit” is best understood as a judgment about player activity and reviews—not a confirmed sales result.
What the Steam numbers actually show
Launch-day peak: 8,697 concurrent players
SteamDB reports an all-time peak of 8,697 simultaneous Steam players on October 29, 2024, the day the PC version launched. That figure counts people playing at the same time; it is not the number of buyers, total players over time, or activity on other platforms. SteamDB’s player chart tracks the Steam metric.
Player activity after launch
Steam Charts estimated an average of 1,641.84 concurrent players in November 2024 and 1,391.79 in December 2024. Its search snapshot also showed a 681.61 average for the last 30 days, but that window is dynamic and the value can change. These are third-party estimates of simultaneous activity, not sales figures. Steam Charts’ page provides the changing monthly and recent data.
How players reviewed the PC release
A captured Steam store-page snapshot showed 91% positive English-language reviews from 11,846 reviews, with recent reviews also at 91% from 559 reviews. Steam labels the overall English review rating Very Positive. Review counts and percentages change as users post or revise reviews, so the snapshot should not be treated as a permanent rating. The Steam listing displays the current review information.

Positive reviews indicate that many reviewers responded favorably; they do not establish how many people bought or played the game. Reviewers are a subset of customers, and the review totals cannot be converted into a reliable sales estimate.
Did Red Dead Redemption sell well on Steam?
There is no official Steam unit-sales figure in the available sources. The 8,697-player peak and Steam review totals support saying the release attracted an audience and received positive feedback, but neither provides a verified sales count or revenue total. A precise claim that it was a sales hit would go beyond the evidence.

What came with the PC release
Rockstar announced the PC release for October 29, 2024, bundling Red Dead Redemption with the Undead Nightmare expansion. The story follows former outlaw John Marston as he pursues the remaining members of the Van der Linde Gang. Rockstar’s announcement describes this as the PC debut of the critically acclaimed predecessor to Red Dead Redemption 2.
Rockstar also listed PC options including native 4K resolution up to 144 Hz on supported hardware, ultrawide and super-ultrawide displays, HDR10, adjustable draw distances and shadow quality, and full keyboard-and-mouse support. Upscaling and frame-generation options listed include DLSS 3.7, FSR 3.0, and DLSS Frame Generation. Actual performance and available display modes depend on the player’s hardware and setup.

How the Steam version fits the wider release
Steam is one PC release, so its concurrent-player numbers should not be read as a measure of the game’s audience across consoles. Take-Two’s investor materials state that Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare were released for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch 2 in December 2025. The cited materials do not provide comparable sales totals across those platforms. Take-Two’s investor materials confirm those later releases.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is it worth considering on Steam?
The available evidence points to a PC release with a substantial launch-day concurrent audience, favorable Steam reviews, and modern display and control options. Whether it is a good fit depends on what matters to you: the bundled Undead Nightmare content, support for your display and hardware, and the current Steam listing’s details. Player peaks and review sentiment can help describe reception, but they cannot settle an individual buying decision or prove commercial success.
