Red Dead Redemption is not a free download for everyone. You can play the mobile version at no additional game cost if you have a current Netflix subscription, and some existing owners qualify for a free digital upgrade. Otherwise, it is a paid purchase. Rockstar’s US store page showed $49.99 when checked on October 7, 2026; prices and subscription catalogs can vary by region and change.
Who can get Red Dead Redemption at no additional game cost?
Netflix subscribers on mobile
Rockstar says, “The mobile versions are available for free to current Netflix subscribers.” This means access through an active subscription, not an unrestricted free copy. Check whether the game is currently available in your country and whether your device is compatible before downloading. Rockstar’s official Red Dead Redemption page describes the mobile option.

Owners of qualifying versions
Rockstar identifies owners of the PS4, Nintendo Switch, and digital backward-compatible Xbox One editions as eligible for free digital upgrades to newer versions. The exact route depends on the platform and the copy you own; Rockstar’s support site has platform-specific upgrade information.
GTA+ and PlayStation Plus catalogs
Rockstar announced that the newer console versions would join the GTA+ library and the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog at launch on December 2, 2025. That announcement confirms launch availability, not continued inclusion today. Subscription catalogs and eligibility differ by region and can change, so check the live catalog and the required membership tier before relying on either service.

- When federal agents threaten his family, former outlaw John Marston is forced to hunt down the gang of criminals he once called friends.
- Experience Marston’s journey across the sprawling expanses of the American West and Mexico as he fights to bury his blood-stained past in the critically acclaimed predecessor to the 2018 blockbuster, Red Dead Redemption 2.
- Also included is Undead Nightmare, the iconic horror story that transforms the world of Red Dead Redemption into an apocalyptic fight for survival against a zombie horde.
How to get the game through an existing-owner upgrade
PS4 to PS5
The PlayStation Store listing says existing PS4 owners can obtain the PS5 digital version at no extra cost. If your PS4 copy is on disc, you must insert that disc to download or play the PS5 version. A disc cannot be used for this upgrade on a PS5 Digital Edition console, which has no disc drive. See the official PlayStation Store listing for the current platform terms.
Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S
Rockstar includes owners of the digital backward-compatible Xbox One version among those eligible for a free digital upgrade. Its support index also lists Xbox 360-to-Xbox Series X|S upgrade guidance. Check the support instructions for your particular edition and account; the eligibility described here is not a general free claim for anyone who downloads the game.

Where to buy it and which platforms are listed
Rockstar’s official store offers the paid game. Its US page displayed a price of $49.99 on October 7, 2026; that is a dated listing, not a guaranteed price in other countries or at a later time. Confirm the current price and edition in your regional store.

Rockstar says the current package does not include multiplayer. See the official game page and Rockstar Games Store for the listed editions and purchase details.

Choose the route that fits your situation
- You want to play on a phone: Check Netflix membership, your country’s catalog, and device compatibility.
- You already own a supported console edition: Use the platform-specific upgrade path; disc owners need to account for the PS5 disc requirement.
- You already subscribe to GTA+ or PlayStation Plus: Search the current regional catalog rather than assuming the game remains included based on its launch announcement.
- You have none of those access routes: Buy it through an official regional store and check the listed platform and price before checkout.
Avoid treating third-party “free download” claims as official access: the documented no-additional-game-cost options are conditional, while Rockstar offers the game as a paid purchase for other players.
