The mobile release launched on December 2, 2025, with the complete single-player campaign, Undead Nightmare, and Game of the Year Edition bonus content. The catch is that the Netflix edition requires an active Netflix membership, Android compatibility is limited to relatively powerful hardware, and existing console or PC saves cannot be transferred to the Netflix version.
What is available on mobile?
This is a dedicated native mobile release—not remote play, browser streaming, or an unofficial emulator. Rockstar released versions for iOS and Android with touch-friendly controls and a performance mode designed to enable higher frame rates on select devices.

Rockstar’s mobile description focuses on the single-player experiences. It does not advertise Red Dead Online, so this should not be treated as a mobile version of the online game or as Red Dead Redemption 2. See Rockstar’s launch announcement for the official content description.
The five catches to know before downloading
1. “Free” means included with Netflix
The Netflix edition has no separate game charge, advertisements, or in-app purchases, but it is not a free game for everyone. You need an active Netflix membership and must sign in with a Netflix account. Netflix’s mobile-game requirements also call for an internet connection to download the game, sufficient storage, and a compatible device.

That means Netflix access is a subscription benefit, not permanent ownership of the game. Netflix can also change its game catalog. The exact membership cost depends on your country and plan, so check Netflix’s current signup page rather than relying on an old price.
2. Not every Android phone can run it
Netflix’s general Android guidance is less demanding than the game’s hardware requirements. For Red Dead Redemption, Rockstar says Android devices should use a processor equivalent to or better than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 for the best performance and stable gameplay.
Rockstar’s supported chipset families include:
- Qualcomm Snapdragon: 888 (SM8350), 8 Gen 1 (SM8450), 8+ Gen 1 (SM8475), 8 Gen 2 (SM8550), 8 Gen 3 (SM8650), 8 Elite/8 Gen 4 (SM8750), and 8 Gen 5 (SM8850)
- MediaTek Dimensity: 8200, 8300/8300 Ultra, 8400/8400-Turbo, 9000/9000+, 9200/9200+, 9300/9300+, 9400, and 9500
Check the exact processor in your phone—not just its model name—using Rockstar’s Android device-support list. Regional versions of the same phone can use different chipsets, and a phone that runs Netflix may still be incompatible with this game. Google Play may hide the listing when a device is unsupported.

Netflix says save data from games previously released on other platforms cannot be transferred to the Netflix version. Do not assume that a PS4, Xbox, Switch, PC, or other existing save will work on mobile; you may need to begin the campaign again.

That is separate from Rockstar’s save-carryover support for certain console upgrades. It should not be interpreted as cross-platform save support for Netflix mobile.
4. The Netflix version is not the same as buying the game
There is also a separately sold Rockstar mobile app. At the time of checking, the U.S. Apple App Store listed it at $39.99, with an app size of approximately 3 GB. Prices can change, and the available evidence does not establish a current Google Play price, so Android buyers should check the live listing in their region.

Compare the standalone iOS listing with the Netflix iOS listing carefully. They are separate apps.

The App Store listings show approximately 3 GB for the standalone app and approximately 3.1 GB for the Netflix edition. Treat those as headline app sizes, not guaranteed final installed footprints. Leave additional free space for internal downloads and installation overhead.

iPhone and iPad compatibility
The strongest current Apple listing guidance identifies these supported device families for the Netflix edition:
- iPhone 11 and later
- iPad ninth generation and later
- iPad mini sixth generation and later
- iPad Air fourth generation and later
- iPad Pro fifth generation and later
The standalone App Store listing requires iOS 18.0 or later. Netflix’s general games guidance mentions iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, but the game-specific listing can be stricter. Always check the live regional App Store listing for your device before downloading.
If the game does not appear, update iOS or iPadOS and the Netflix app, then check the listing directly in the App Store.
How to install the Netflix version
- Update the Netflix app.
- Open Netflix and find the Mobile Games row or Games shortcut.
- Select Red Dead Redemption and choose Get Game or Play Game.
- Allow Netflix to open the App Store or Google Play.
- Install the Netflix-branded game.
- Launch it and sign in with the Netflix account connected to your membership.
- Select the Netflix profile you want to use.
You can also search for the Netflix edition directly in the App Store or Google Play. If it is missing, check device compatibility, update Netflix, and verify that the profile’s maturity setting is high enough for the title. Netflix provides additional steps in its game installation guide.

How to install the standalone version
- Search your app store for Red Dead Redemption.
- Confirm that the developer is Rockstar Games.
- Check that you are viewing the standalone Rockstar listing rather than the Netflix-branded app.
- Review the current price, operating-system requirement, and storage size.
- Purchase and install the app.
Do not assume that a purchase on one platform transfers to another platform, or that it shares saves with the Netflix edition. The available official information does not promise that behavior.
Controls, performance, and offline play
The mobile versions include touch controls, but the small on-screen buttons may be less comfortable for aiming, riding, and extended sessions than a physical controller. A compatible Bluetooth controller may improve ergonomics, although the exact experience depends on the device and controller.
Rockstar confirms a performance mode on select devices, not one universal frame rate or visual setting for every supported phone and tablet. Resolution, frame rate, thermals, and control comfort can vary substantially by hardware.

You need an internet connection to download and install the game. The supplied official material does not establish one universal offline-play policy for every version and device, so do not assume that all gameplay conditions are identical offline.
Which version should you choose?
- Already pay for Netflix: Try the Netflix edition first. It provides the advertised package without a separate game purchase, but access remains tied to your membership.
- Do not subscribe to Netflix: On iPhone or iPad, compare the $39.99 checked U.S. standalone price with the cost and value of starting Netflix. The standalone app may make more sense if you want a separately purchased game.
- Use an older or midrange Android phone: Check the chipset before anything else. Android version compatibility alone is not enough.
- Want to continue a console playthrough: The Netflix edition is a poor fit because prior-platform saves cannot be transferred.
- Want multiplayer: Do not buy this mobile package expecting Red Dead Online; the official mobile description centers on single-player content.
Bottom line
Red Dead Redemption is a legitimate native mobile release, and Netflix subscribers get an unusually substantial package: the full single-player game, Undead Nightmare, and Game of the Year bonus content. But the headline hides important limits. Netflix membership is required for the included edition, Android support is restricted to relatively high-end chipsets, existing console and PC saves do not transfer to Netflix mobile, and the game is not a replacement for Red Dead Online or Red Dead Redemption 2.
