Red Dead Redemption and its companion expansion Undead Nightmare came to PC on October 29, 2024. The long-awaited port includes both single-player experiences and PC-specific display and graphics options, but no multiplayer. Reactions to the announcement included excitement as well as frustration about the wait and the prospect of buying the game again.
When did Red Dead Redemption come to PC?
Rockstar and Take-Two released Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare for PC on October 29, 2024. The publisher named the Rockstar Store, Steam and Epic Games Store as purchase channels in its release announcement.
The port was developed in collaboration with Double Eleven and builds on enhancements made for the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 versions. The announcement described the original game as having received more than 170 Game of the Year awards; that number is the publisher’s claim, and the announcement did not provide a counting method.
What does the PC version include?
Both single-player games
The PC package includes the single-player story of Red Dead Redemption, Undead Nightmare, and bonus content from the Game of the Year Edition. Steam’s store listing explicitly says the PC game “does not feature multiplayer content.” Players looking for the original game’s multiplayer should not expect it in this release.

PC display, graphics and input options
Rockstar and Take-Two list native 4K resolution at up to 144 Hz on compatible hardware, ultrawide (21:9) and super ultrawide (32:9) monitor support, HDR10, adjustable draw distances and shadow-quality settings. The PC edition also supports keyboard and mouse, DLSS 3.7, FSR 3.0 and DLSS Frame Generation. These are supported features, not a promise that every computer can run the game at 4K and 144 Hz; results depend on compatible hardware and display equipment. Why was the PC release such a long time coming?
There is no established official account here that explains the entire delay. In a 2026 GamesRadar+ report, former Rockstar producer John Ricchio recalled that “we actually got a PC build running very early.” He said the team considered the work involved and weighed it against work on Grand Theft Auto V. That is one former producer’s retrospective about an early build and a resource tradeoff; it does not establish that a finished port existed then or explain every decision leading to the 2024 release.

Were gamers really “flipping out”?
The phrase captures some of the excitement around the announcement, but it is not a measured description of all players. The October 2024 Reddit announcement discussion includes enthusiastic responses alongside complaints about the wait, the use of an outside developer and the value of paying again after buying a console version. One commenter said they had bought the PS4 version without knowing a PC release was coming.
Those comments illustrate the kinds of reactions the announcement prompted; they are anecdotes, not a representative poll or evidence of what most gamers thought. They also explain why a PC release could be welcome and frustrating at the same time: it made the game available to PC players, while some existing owners faced a repeat purchase to play on another platform.

Rockstar Support’s Red Dead Redemption Title Update Notes were last updated on March 3, 2026. They list PC version 1.06, dated February 24, 2026, as containing general bug fixes and improvements. The notes do not describe those changes in greater detail in the information cited here.

For someone who wants the original story and Undead Nightmare on PC, the package offers both single-player experiences and PC display, graphics and input features. It does not include multiplayer. Whether its visual options are useful depends on the player’s hardware and monitor, and whether buying again makes sense depends on whether they already own a console copy. Current prices and regional availability can vary by store; no price comparison is established here.
