Yes—the announcement was real, but the original headline is now outdated. Rockstar Games released the 2010 Red Dead Redemption, Undead Nightmare and Game of the Year bonus content on December 2, 2025, for iOS, Android, Netflix Games, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. The package is single-player only and does not include multiplayer or Red Dead Online.

Rockstar announced the release in its official Newswire post and later confirmed that the game was out now. As of August 18, 2026, “coming this December” should therefore be read as historical wording referring to December 2, 2025.

What is included?
The release contains the complete single-player campaign of Red Dead Redemption, the supernatural expansion Undead Nightmare and bonus content from the Game of the Year Edition. It does not include the original multiplayer modes or Red Dead Online. Rockstar’s official product page confirms both the included single-player experiences and the absence of multiplayer.
This is the original Red Dead Redemption, not Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar and the supplied platform listings do not describe this release as a full remake, so it is more accurate to call it a current-platform version with platform-specific improvements.

PS5 features
The PS5 version supports up to 4K resolution, HDR, improved image quality and 60 frames per second, along with DualSense vibration features. These enhancements are specific to the PS5 version and should not be assumed to apply identically to mobile, Xbox or Nintendo hardware. PlayStation lists the game for both PS4 and PS5, with a US price of $49.99 when checked; prices and catalog availability can change by region and date.
PS4 owners can upgrade to the PS5 edition for free according to Rockstar’s support guidance. The exact option shown can depend on the account, edition and storefront region.
Xbox versions and upgrades
The new current-generation Xbox release is for Xbox Series X|S. “Xbox” is too broad if it suggests a native Xbox One edition of this release. Xbox One players may still run the earlier Xbox 360 version through backward compatibility.

Rockstar’s support information describes a free Xbox Series X|S upgrade for owners of the digital backward-compatible Xbox 360 version. That wording does not guarantee the same upgrade for every disc, purchase configuration or account, so owners should check the support page and the Microsoft Store listing on their console.
Nintendo Switch 2 and existing Switch owners
Nintendo Switch 2 was part of Rockstar’s official platform announcement and should not be omitted from a complete list. Rockstar says existing Nintendo Switch owners can access the Switch 2 upgrade through the game’s main menu. Availability and the exact upgrade prompt may vary by edition and account.
How the mobile and Netflix versions work
The mobile release is available on compatible iOS and Android devices. Netflix provides another way to access the mobile game through Netflix Games. An eligible Netflix membership may mean there is no separate game purchase, but the subscription is still required and Netflix’s plans, pricing and regional catalog can change.

Netflix access does not mean that the game can be streamed to a television or played on a console through the Netflix app. It is a mobile-games distribution route. Players should use the current App Store, Google Play or Netflix listing for their country to confirm availability and device requirements.
There is no evidence supporting a blanket claim that every iPhone, iPad, Android phone or tablet can run the game. Possible problems include an unsupported device, insufficient storage, performance issues on older hardware and unavailable HDR. Rockstar’s mobile update notes specifically limit HDR to compatible devices.

Rockstar continued maintaining the mobile versions after release. Its March 4, 2026 mobile update notes list HDR support on compatible devices, Google Play Games achievements, Apple Games/Game Center achievements, general fixes and other improvements.

Which version should you choose?
- Choose PS5 if you want the clearest documented visual and performance improvements, a large-screen experience and conventional ownership.
- Choose Xbox Series X|S if you use Xbox hardware or already own an eligible digital backward-compatible Xbox 360 copy.
- Choose Nintendo Switch 2 if portability is important and you want to play on Nintendo’s current hardware.
- Choose mobile if you want to play on an iPhone, iPad or Android device and have compatible hardware.
- Choose Netflix Games if you already subscribe to Netflix and want mobile access without buying the game separately.
- Keep the older version if you already own the PS4, Xbox 360 or Nintendo Switch release and do not need the newer platform features.
The central trade-off is portability versus performance. Console versions are better suited to large-screen play, while mobile versions are more convenient but depend on device compatibility. A console purchase is also different from Netflix access: one is a conventional game license, while the other depends on an active membership and continued service availability.
What the original headline gets wrong or leaves out
- The release was not an unconfirmed rumor; Rockstar officially announced it.
- The December date was December 2, 2025, not an upcoming December in 2026.
- “Xbox” should be specified as Xbox Series X|S for the new version.
- Nintendo Switch 2 was also supported.
- Netflix refers to mobile access through Netflix Games, not console streaming.
- The package includes the two single-player adventures but no multiplayer.
- Mobile availability depends on compatible devices.
For current purchasing, upgrade and troubleshooting details, use Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption support hub and the platform store for your country. Avoid unofficial APKs or sideloaded copies when a phone is unsupported.
