The Red Magic Gaming Tablet 3 Pro was officially revealed in China on June 11, 2025—not merely expected to launch that month. The compact gaming tablet later appeared internationally as the REDMAGIC Astra Gaming Tablet, with a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, 9.06-inch 165Hz OLED display, active cooling, and up to 24GB of RAM.
Here is what the original June 2025 reports got right, which specifications changed between rumor and release, and whether the Astra still makes sense now that the REDMAGIC Astra 2 is entering the market.

What was revealed about the Red Magic Gaming Tablet 3 Pro?
On June 2, 2025, launch-invitation imagery reportedly revealed the name Red Magic Gaming Tablet 3 Pro. The image was shared on Weibo by tipster Ice Universe, according to GizmoChina’s report.

That was a name reveal, not a complete official specification announcement. At the time, the processor and hardware details were based on benchmark listings, earlier product patterns, and reporting. Red Magic subsequently confirmed a China launch for June 11, 2025, as reported the following day by GizmoChina.

The distinction matters because the original headline referred to June 2025. In 2026, this is a released product and a naming-history story, not an upcoming-launch rumor.
Red Magic Gaming Tablet 3 Pro became REDMAGIC Astra internationally
International buyers generally know the device as the REDMAGIC Astra Gaming Tablet. The China-market Gaming Tablet 3 Pro and the global Astra are the same product family, although regional configurations, firmware, accessories, prices, warranty coverage, and availability can differ.
This explains why searches for “Gaming Tablet 3 Pro” lead to official Astra pages. REDMAGIC’s international product page and official specification page provide the stronger evidence for the final international hardware.
The Tool Desk

Pre-launch reports connected the tablet with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Leading Version. A Geekbench listing reportedly showed a Qualcomm processor running at up to 4.32GHz, which the reporting identified as the Leading Version. The expectation also fit Red Magic’s use of performance-focused Snapdragon variants in products such as the Red Magic 10S Pro series.
The final international specification page uses the simpler name Snapdragon 8 Elite. It lists Oryon CPU cores, a frequency of up to 4.32GHz, an Adreno GPU, and RedCore R3 Pro gaming hardware.

So the early processor prediction was substantially right, but “Leading Version” should be treated as the terminology used in Chinese-market reporting. International REDMAGIC material does not present the tablet as using the later Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5; that newer platform belongs to the Astra 2.
Rumored specifications versus final international specifications
The June 2 report expected an approximately 9-inch customized OLED display, a 2,400 × 1,504 resolution, an 8,240mAh battery, and a built-in cooling fan. Those details were useful indications, but they were not all final confirmed specifications.

| Cooling | Built-in fan | ICE-X system with vapor chamber, graphene, Liquid Metal 2.0, and a 20,000rpm turbo fan |
The small battery difference is a reminder not to convert launch leaks into final product facts. For buying decisions, use the specification for the exact regional model.
REDMAGIC Astra specifications
Display
- 9.06-inch OLED panel
- 2,400 × 1,504 resolution
- Up to 165Hz refresh rate
- Up to 2,000Hz touch-sampling rate
- 313ppi and 16:10 aspect ratio
- Up to 1,600 nits peak brightness
- IP54 rating
The combination is unusual for an Android tablet. The 16:10, roughly 9-inch format is more compact than a conventional productivity tablet, while OLED contrast and a 165Hz refresh rate target games rather than office work.
Processor, memory and storage
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite
- RedCore R3 Pro gaming co-processor
- 12GB, 16GB, or 24GB of LPDDR5T RAM
- 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of UFS 4.1 Pro storage
The high memory ceiling is useful for demanding games and multitasking, although buyers should choose based on their actual storage needs rather than assuming more RAM automatically produces higher frame rates.

Cooling
REDMAGIC uses its ICE-X active cooling system, combining a vapor chamber, graphene components, Liquid Metal 2.0, and a fan rated at up to 20,000rpm. A fan can help a compact device sustain performance for longer than passive cooling alone, but it also makes the Astra more specialized than a typical silent media tablet. Manufacturer cooling and performance claims should not be confused with independent testing.

Battery and charging
The international specification lists an 8,200mAh dual-cell battery with fast-charging support. The earlier report cited 8,240mAh, while some launch coverage mentioned 80W charging. Charging support, included accessories, and adapter availability can vary by region, so check the exact store listing before buying.
Ports, software and other hardware
- REDMAGIC OS 10.5 based on Android 15
- Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.4
- USB 3.2 Gen 2 with DisplayPort support
- Fingerprint sensor
- 13MP rear camera and 9MP front camera
- Dual speakers
- Dual X-axis linear motors
The cameras are functional extras rather than the reason to buy the device. The more relevant hardware for games is the high-refresh display, cooling system, speakers, vibration motors, and USB-C connectivity.
Why the tablet stood out
The Astra combines several features rarely found together in a small Android tablet:
- A flagship smartphone-class Snapdragon processor
- A compact 9-inch body
- An OLED panel with a refresh rate up to 165Hz
- High touch-sampling capability
- Active fan cooling
- Large RAM and storage options
- Gaming-focused software and hardware controls
Its central trade-off is portability versus specialization. The small display is easier to hold for handheld-style gaming than a large tablet, and active cooling is valuable for sustained workloads. In exchange, buyers must accept fan noise, a gaming-oriented interface, and fewer of the broad productivity conveniences associated with mainstream tablet platforms.

How it compares with other compact gaming tablets
Lenovo Legion Y700
The Lenovo Legion Y700 line is the most obvious compact gaming-tablet comparison. It targets a similar form factor and gaming audience. The better choice depends on the exact generation and regional configuration: the Astra’s headline advantages are its OLED display, active cooling, and very high memory ceiling, while Lenovo’s appeal may include a more conventional software experience or different accessory and support options.
Redmi’s reported gaming tablet
Pre-launch reporting positioned the Astra against a Redmi gaming tablet expected to use a Dimensity 9400 Plus, an 8.8-inch LCD panel, 3K resolution, a 165Hz refresh rate, a 7,500mAh battery, bypass charging, dual USB-C ports, dual X-axis motors, and stereo speakers. Those details were reported expectations rather than equally verified final specifications.
The market positioning was clear: Red Magic emphasized OLED and active cooling, while Redmi was reported to emphasize a high-resolution LCD, bypass charging, battery capacity, and connectivity.

China and international models are not automatically identical
A China-market Gaming Tablet 3 Pro can differ from an international Astra in firmware, Google-service support, language selection, update policy, warranty, and network support. A grey-market import may be cheaper, but buyers should confirm Google Play availability, the ROM installed, return terms, cellular support if relevant, and who will honor the warranty.

REDMAGIC’s international launch material showed a starting price signal of $549, while the European store listed the 12GB/256GB version at €499 when crawled, but that listing was out of stock. These are region- and date-specific figures, not a universal current price.

Some international listings state that a power adapter may not be included except with qualifying early-bird orders. Confirm the package contents, plug type, taxes, and shipping charges before checkout. An official Singapore listing also identifies an 80W Fast Charger and Shadow Blade Gamepad 3 as relevant accessories, but compatibility and availability should be checked for the exact tablet and country.
Consider the fan and software experience
The Astra is a poor fit for users who mainly browse, stream video, or want a silent general-purpose tablet. The fan may be worthwhile during long gaming sessions but unnecessary for lighter use. It is also not the obvious choice for buyers prioritizing long-term software support, productivity accessories, cellular connectivity, or a mature mainstream tablet ecosystem.
Should you buy the Red Magic Gaming Tablet 3 Pro in 2026?
Buy the international Astra only if it is in stock at a meaningful discount and its compact OLED gaming format is your priority. It remains attractive for players who want a powerful small Android tablet, high refresh rate, active cooling, and generous memory and storage.

REDMAGIC is promoting the successor, Astra 2, with global open sales scheduled for August 26, 2026. The Astra 2 is positioned around Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, an 185Hz OLED display, visible liquid cooling, and an 8,300mAh battery. Its launch-page price signals were $699 for 12GB/256GB and $799 for 16GB/512GB.
That makes the decision straightforward:
- Choose the Astra for a substantial discount and the original compact OLED gaming design.
- Choose Astra 2 if you want the newer platform and better forward-looking value and can justify the higher price.
- Choose a conventional tablet if productivity, cameras, cellular options, accessories, or broad software support matter more than sustained gaming performance.
The timeline in brief
- September 2024: The preceding Red Magic Gaming Tablet Pro was reportedly launched in China with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Leading Version.
- June 2, 2025: The Gaming Tablet 3 Pro name was reported from invitation imagery.
- June 3, 2025: Red Magic was reported to have confirmed a June 11 China launch; certification and Geekbench listings were also cited.
- June 11, 2025: The tablet launched in China.
- July 2025: The international version appeared as the REDMAGIC Astra Gaming Tablet.
- August–September 2025: Some international variants faced availability delays, including the 12GB/256GB Starfrost model, which REDMAGIC said was delayed to September 10, 2025.
- August 2026: Astra 2 entered its global launch cycle, with open sales scheduled for August 26.
What the original rumor got right
The June 2025 reporting was broadly accurate about the product’s name, its June launch window, and its connection to Qualcomm’s highest-end Snapdragon 8 Elite family. The main corrections are equally important: the launch date was June 11, 2025, in China; the final international product was called REDMAGIC Astra; and some leaked figures, including the 8,240mAh battery, differed slightly from the final specifications.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: The Red Magic Gaming Tablet 3 Pro was real, launched in China on June 11, 2025, and became the internationally marketed REDMAGIC Astra. It remains a compelling compact gaming tablet when discounted, but Astra 2 is the more forward-looking choice in 2026.
