The Redmi K90 Ultra is no longer just a leak: Redmi launched it in China on June 30, 2026. A March report correctly anticipated a gaming-focused phone with a high-refresh-rate display, a large battery and active cooling, but its reported MediaTek Dimensity 9500 did not make it into the released phone. The retail model uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite, alongside a dedicated D2 display chip, a 6.83-inch 165Hz screen and an 8,550mAh battery.
What did the March leak claim?
A March 10 report described the Redmi K90 Ultra, also known in China as REDMI K90 至尊版, as a high-end gaming-oriented phone. These were leak claims, not an official specification sheet: the report suggested a MediaTek Dimensity 9500, a flat OLED display of about 6.89 inches with 1.5K resolution and a refresh rate of up to 165Hz, active cooling, and a battery estimated at around or above 8,000mAh. It also anticipated a China launch around April 2026, a date the actual launch missed. Gizmochina’s March leak report and Notebookcheck’s summary documented the early claims.
The leak’s broad picture held up: Redmi did build a performance-focused phone around a fast screen, a large battery and a built-in fan. The processor, display size, exact battery capacity and release timing changed or became more precise as Redmi announced the product.

Redmi began confirming the phone’s gaming positioning and core hardware in the second half of June, before the June 30 China launch. The June 24 announcement coverage and the June 25 display and battery coverage show how the early estimates were replaced by launch specifications. The final launch details were also reported by Gizmochina and 91mobiles.

What are the released phone’s gaming-focused specifications?
- Processor and display chip: Snapdragon 8 Elite, paired with Redmi’s D2 AI display/gaming chip.
- Screen: 6.83-inch flat M10 display with 1.5K resolution and a refresh rate of up to 165Hz. Redmi claims peak brightness of up to 3,500 nits under its stated test conditions; that figure should not be read as sustained full-screen brightness.
- Touch: Redmi specifies 480Hz multi-finger reporting and up to 3,500Hz instantaneous touch sampling in supported gaming scenarios. The higher figure is scenario- and mode-dependent, not a guarantee that every game will register input at that rate.
- Memory and storage: Launch coverage identifies LPDDR5X Ultra memory and UFS 4.1 storage. The available specifications do not establish capacities here, so no RAM or storage tier is implied.
- Battery and charging: An 8,550mAh Xiaomi Jinshajiang battery, described by Redmi as having 16% silicon content, with 100W wired charging. Actual charge time can vary with temperature, charger and cable; check the seller’s regional bundle before importing.
- Cooling: An integrated active fan, vapor-chamber cooling, airflow ducting and additional thermal materials. Redmi lists an 18.1mm fan and up to 0.42 CFM airflow; these are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements.

What do the fan, 165Hz screen and D2 chip mean in practice?
The fan is for sustained heat management, not guaranteed frame rates
During demanding play, a fan can move heat away from internal components and may reduce the likelihood of thermal throttling over a long session. It cannot guarantee a particular frame rate: game limits, software optimization, ambient temperature, charging and performance settings all matter. A fan can also mean moving parts, audible noise, airflow openings and greater exposure to dust. A case that blocks the intake or exhaust can undermine airflow, and running at maximum performance can still use substantial power even if the phone stays cooler.

165Hz only helps when the game and software support it
A 165Hz panel can refresh the image more often than a 60Hz or 120Hz panel, making supported motion appear smoother and potentially making supported touch interactions feel more immediate. It does not make every game render 165 frames per second. Redmi says more than 40 games support native 165fps and more than 100 support combinations involving 1.5K resolution, 165Hz output, frame interpolation or super-resolution. Those are Redmi’s software-ecosystem claims; support can depend on the specific title, ROM and software update. If the games you play are capped at 60 or 120fps, the panel’s top refresh rate will not raise their frame rate.
D2 features are not the same as native rendering
Redmi positions its D2 chip for display processing, including super-resolution and frame-generation or interpolation features. Interpolation can make motion look smoother by generating frames between rendered ones, but generated frames are not equivalent to frames rendered directly by the game. Results can vary by title, and processing may introduce latency or image artifacts. Native frame rate, upscaling and frame interpolation are distinct capabilities, so a supported mode should not be treated as proof that a game is natively running at the display’s maximum refresh rate.

The battery trades portability for capacity
An 8,550mAh battery gives the phone substantial capacity for long gaming sessions, but capacity alone cannot predict hours of play. Brightness, frame rate, network conditions, game load and fan mode affect consumption. A battery this large also points to a likely trade-off in bulk and weight; the cited launch details do not provide figures here to quantify either.
How should Redmi’s performance figures be read?
Redmi’s launch material reports two gaming tests: an average of 59.5fps in a one-hour, high-load 3D game test, with a maximum temperature of 45.4°C; and an average of 143.9fps in a three-hour, 144fps MOBA test at 30°C ambient temperature, with a maximum temperature of 43.7°C. Redmi also claims a 10°C temperature reduction in 100 seconds under its stated cooling test. These are the company’s own results, not independent laboratory measurements. The available descriptions do not identify the game titles or provide a complete measurement method and graphics-settings record, so they should not be generalized to other games or conditions. The figures do not show that every game runs at 165fps or that the fan prevents overheating. Redmi’s detailed launch material contains these claims and the associated hardware descriptions.

What does the China launch mean for buyers elsewhere?
Redmi announced an initial-sale price starting at 2,799 yuan in China. That is a launch offer in the Chinese market, not a verified U.S. MSRP or a reliable estimate of an imported phone’s landed cost. Reseller pricing, shipping, tax, warranty coverage and the selected storage tier can change what a buyer actually pays. Redmi’s official account is at Weibo.
The available coverage confirms a China launch but does not confirm global availability, a U.S. release or a POCO rebrand. Treat the K90 Ultra as a China-market product unless Xiaomi announces otherwise. Importers should confirm the exact model and seller terms before paying; a listing labeled “global ROM” does not by itself establish official global distribution or support.

Do not assume full U.S. network or app compatibility without checking the exact device with your carrier and the services you rely on. For liquid protection, an IP rating is not a promise against all damage: salt or hot water, pressure, wear and damaged seals can still be hazards. Do not intentionally submerge the phone, and do not treat the fan’s separate component rating as a reason to expose the device to water.
Who is the K90 Ultra a good fit for?
It is most compelling for
- China-based buyers who want a very large battery and gaming-oriented cooling in a mainstream phone design.
- Players of titles that support high refresh rates or the phone’s specific display-processing modes, especially those who play for long sessions.
- Experienced importers who have checked network bands, software behavior, warranty and the total landed cost and are comfortable with the China-market support situation.
It is a weaker fit for
- U.S. buyers who need confirmed local distribution, a local warranty, straightforward returns or guaranteed carrier compatibility.
- Camera-first buyers: the available launch information emphasizes gaming and does not establish a camera advantage.
- Players whose main games are capped at 60Hz or 120Hz, for whom the 165Hz ceiling may offer little practical benefit.
- Anyone who prefers a simpler, passively cooled phone and does not want a fan, airflow openings or possible fan noise.
Was the Redmi K90 Ultra leak accurate?
It was accurate about the product’s direction, not its final specification sheet. The March leak pointed to gaming hardware, a 1.5K high-refresh-rate screen, active cooling and a large battery; Redmi’s launched phone delivered those ideas with a 6.83-inch 165Hz display, integrated fan and 8,550mAh battery. The reported Dimensity 9500 was replaced by Snapdragon 8 Elite, the suggested April release slipped to June 30, and Redmi’s launch price was an initial China-sale figure. The K90 Ultra’s case rests on its combination of sustained-performance hardware and battery capacity—not on an unverified claim that it beats every gaming phone or runs every title at 165fps.
