Remedy Entertainment appointed Jean-Charles Gaudechon as its CEO on February 9, 2026, and he took office on March 1. He succeeded interim CEO Markus Mäki, who stepped in after Tero Virtala left the role in October 2025. Remedy said it hired Gaudechon to help pursue profitable growth and greater independence through self-publishing—goals, not results the company has yet established.
Who is Remedy’s new CEO?
Jean-Charles Gaudechon, whom Remedy’s appointment announcement also called “JC,” is a French-born gaming and digital-entertainment executive. Remedy said he was 48 when it announced his appointment and had more than 20 years of leadership experience. His career includes senior leadership roles at Electronic Arts and CCP Games, including positions with full profit-and-loss responsibility. Remedy’s management page lists Gaudechon as CEO since 2026. It also says he holds a master’s degree with honors in computer science from Université Paris 13 and a bachelor’s degree in general management from the University of Paris I Sorbonne.
When did Gaudechon take over?
The Board announced the appointment on February 9, 2026, and Gaudechon’s tenure began March 1. The change followed a short interim period:

- October 22, 2025: Markus Mäki became interim CEO while Remedy searched for a permanent successor.
- March 1, 2026: Gaudechon began as CEO. Mäki was to remain interim CEO until that date and continue supporting Remedy and the CEO afterward.

Why did Remedy appoint a former EA executive?
Remedy’s chairman, Henri Österlund, said the company wanted Gaudechon to lead it into “a phase of profitable growth.” Österlund pointed to Gaudechon’s experience growing gaming franchises and leading international studios as relevant to Remedy’s business stage. He also described company aims to accelerate growth, increase independence through self-publishing, and create sustained value for players, partners, and shareholders. Those remarks explain the Board’s stated rationale; they do not show that the goals have been achieved.

Gaudechon said he wanted to protect Remedy’s creative identity while delivering games and scaling the business. He also said the company would remain close to players, strengthen its ability to build and publish games independently, and continue working with partners. The appointment does not mean Remedy is ending its partnerships.

Remedy is a video game developer founded in 1995 and headquartered in Finland, with an office in Stockholm, Sweden. Its franchises include Control, Alan Wake, and Max Payne; the company also develops its Northlight game engine and tools technology, according to the appointment release.

The CEO manages the company’s day-to-day administration under the Board’s instructions and leads the Core Management Team, which assists in running the business, as described in Remedy’s 2025 governance statement. That makes the CEO responsible for company operations and execution, while the Board appoints the role and provides direction.
