The game is already listed for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S play, while PlayStation’s official listings describe the PS4 edition as playable on PS5. The cited sources do not confirm a new native PS5 edition.
What the ESRB listing actually says
The current ESRB record for Resident Evil 6 names CAPCOM USA, INC., lists Xbox Series as a platform, and assigns the game a Mature 17+ rating. That platform label is a real database entry, but the record does not announce a new release, specify a version, or give a date.
ESRB ratings are intended to help parents make informed decisions about games and apps. ESRB says ratings combine a category, content descriptors, and interactive elements; they are not publisher release announcements. The organization describes its mission as helping parents make informed decisions about the games and apps their children play.
The current record lists Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Nudity, Strong Language, and Suggestive Themes, along with the interactive elements Users Interact and In-Game Purchases. Its content summary mentions gun and melee combat, blood effects, dismemberment and decapitation, strong language, and a nude female boss without discernible anatomical detail. See the ESRB record for the full rating summary.

How to play Resident Evil 6 on current consoles
| Console | Edition listed by the store | What the listing says |
|---|---|---|
| Xbox Series X|S | Xbox One edition | The US Microsoft Store listing gives March 29, 2016 as the release date and says the game can be played on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. |
| PS5 | PS4 edition | The US PlayStation Store listing identifies the product as the PS4 version, gives March 29, 2016 as its release date, and says it is playable on PS5. It warns that some PS4 features may be absent and a system update may be needed. |
PlayStation’s official game page also labels the product PS4 and describes PS5 play with possible feature limitations. These listings establish backward compatibility for the PS4 version; they do not identify a native PS5 edition.
Why there are two ESRB records
A separate ESRB record for Resident Evil 6 lists PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Read alongside the current record, that older console entry is a reason to distinguish the platform label attached to each record from the edition sold in a store. A new platform label alone does not establish that a new-generation edition has been released.

What this means for a possible new port
The available official listings support three specific conclusions: Xbox Series appears in the current ESRB record; the Microsoft Store lists the Xbox One game as playable on Xbox Series X|S; and PlayStation lists the PS4 edition as playable on PS5, with potential feature limitations. They do not confirm a new native PS5 release, a new Xbox Series edition, or a release date. Treat claims of a newly announced port as unconfirmed unless Capcom announces one.
If you are checking which copy to buy or play, use the edition and compatibility wording on the storefront for your region. The cited PlayStation and Microsoft pages are US-facing; availability and compatibility notes can vary by territory and may change.
