Resident Evil Veronica will be third-person only. That is the key difference from Resident Evil Requiem, which Capcom designed around both first- and third-person viewpoints. The contrast matters, but it also exposes a larger challenge: a new camera cannot by itself repair Code: Veronica’s uneven pacing, abrupt tonal shifts, combat readability, or character handoffs. Capcom’s 2027 remake will succeed or fail on how thoroughly it modernizes those foundations while keeping the 2000 game’s identity recognizable.
What Capcom has confirmed
Capcom announced on June 8, 2026 that Resident Evil Veronica is “a remake of the original Resident Evil Code: Veronica, released in the year 2000.” The announcement promises high-quality RE ENGINE graphics and a “reimagined story” intended to preserve the original’s appeal. A 2027 launch is planned.

The PlayStation product page describes modernized gameplay and again frames Claire and Chris Redfield as sibling co-protagonists. That official emphasis makes their relationship, and the way the game transfers control between them, a central test for the remake rather than a minor story detail.

Capcom announced Resident Evil Requiem for February 27, 2026 as the ninth main installment. Its integrated report describes a Raccoon City story playable from both first- and third-person viewpoints. Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi later clarified, in comments reported by Nintendo Life, that Veronica will not offer that perspective switch.
#1 Best Overall
- Amazon Exclusive - 2 sided poster included in every game!
- Grace Ashcroft, an FBI intelligence analyst who is introverted and easily scared, representing a new type of character for the Resident Evil series. Grace will experience horror from the same perspective as the player as she learns to overcome her fears throughout the course of the story.
- For the first time ever in Resident Evil history, players will be able to freely switch between both first- and third-person perspectives throughout the game.
- An Anniversary to Remember: With March 2026 marking the Resident Evil series’ 30-year anniversary, Resident Evil Requiem marks its own milestone in the franchise.
- Pre-orders for Resident Evil Requiem are now open, with the bonus of Grace’s costume: Apocalypse. Please note that the picture weapon does not come with the costume, but it can be obtained in-game.
Is Resident Evil Veronica first-person or third-person?
Resident Evil Veronica is confirmed as third-person only. Players will not be able to switch to first-person during play, unlike Resident Evil Requiem’s announced design.
That is not necessarily a disadvantage. A fixed viewpoint can give the developers a more consistent visual language: enemy animations can be staged for a known camera distance, rooms can be composed around readable sight lines, and movement can be tuned without supporting two radically different presentations. The risk is that third-person becomes merely a default control setting instead of an active part of the horror design.
Resident Evil Requiem and Veronica: the announced difference
| Question | Resident Evil Requiem | Resident Evil Veronica |
|---|---|---|
| Perspective | First- and third-person viewpoints are part of the design, according to Capcom’s integrated report. | Third-person only, according to producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi’s clarification reported by Nintendo Life. |
| Release information | Capcom announced a February 27, 2026 release date. | Capcom announced a 2027 launch plan. |
| Story framing | A Raccoon City story. | A reimagined version of the 2000 Code: Veronica, with Claire and Chris Redfield as sibling co-protagonists. |
| What is officially promised | A viewpoint system supporting two camera perspectives. | RE ENGINE presentation, modernized gameplay and a reimagined storyline. |
The table shows why “new controls” is too narrow a standard. Requiem makes perspective itself a headline feature. Veronica instead has to make one perspective work across every situation.

Why camera choice cannot solve Veronica’s larger problems
Camera consistency and horror staging
A third-person-only remake needs a stable camera language. Close framing can make an enemy’s movement and a character’s physical reaction legible; wider framing can establish a room’s threat geometry. Switching constantly between competing visual priorities, or allowing the camera to obscure important attacks, would create friction that no modern animation budget can hide.
The best use of third person would be deliberate level design: doors, corners, stairwells and open courtyards should communicate risk before the player spends ammunition. Enemy behavior and animation should tell the player what an attack means without requiring trial-and-error camera adjustments.
Combat readability and resource pressure
Modernized gameplay should clarify the relationship between aiming, movement, enemy reactions and ammunition scarcity. The remake does not need to remove pressure; it needs to make pressure understandable. Players should know whether a missed shot came from a deliberate difficulty choice, an enemy’s armor or an unclear hit reaction.

- FEAR COMES HOME -- Fear, combat, exploration, and item management: these are the four pillars of survival horror, a genre that has never been more masterfully executed than in the gameplay of Resident Evil. The horror continues in the ground-breaking Resident Evil 7. Step into the new Isolated View and experience true survival horror in a world created by the all-new RE Engine.
- DEEP IN THE BAYOU - When Ethan Winters opened his inbox, the last thing he expected was to find an email from his wife; she had been missing for three years. The message was simple: "Come get me," and an address in Louisiana. This leads Ethan to a decrepit mansion in the heart of the bayou. The place has a seriously creepy vibe, but Ethan continues his search – until a stranger attacks him and knocks him unconscious. Ethan has no idea what awaits him when he wakes up...for he is now in the clutches of the Baker family.
- A NEW PERSPECTIVE -- In RESIDENT EVIL 7, we're changing the way you interact with the world. For this next major entry in the series, play from a first-person point of view, dramatically increasing your ability to become fully absorbed in the world we have created.
- NEW FOR PLAYSTATION5 – Upgraded features new to the PlayStation5 version of the game include a higher frame rate, 3D audio, added ray tracing, and engaging DualSense support for Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Triggers.
Perspective affects that readability, but it does not determine it. A third-person camera can still produce fair resource decisions if targets, hit feedback and retreat routes are visible. Conversely, a polished camera cannot fix encounters that are confusing because enemy placement or damage rules are inconsistent.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Claire’s escape and Chris’s return
Capcom’s official framing keeps Claire and Chris at the center. The remake therefore needs a causal handoff between Claire’s escape, Chris’s return and the Ashford conflict. Those beats should feel like consequences of the same crisis, not separate campaigns joined by a convenient switch in protagonist.
A reimagined story gives Capcom room to strengthen motivation and timing, but it also creates a fidelity question: changes should clarify why each sibling acts and how their goals collide without erasing the recognizable identity of Code: Veronica.

- Reawaken a Classic – Resident Evil 4 preserves the essence of the original game, now reconstructed using Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine to deliver realistic visuals and additional narrative depth to the iconic story that was not possible at the time of the original release.
- Modernized Gameplay – The team from 2019’s Resident Evil 2 returns to build upon the series’ modern approach to survival horror. Engage in frenzied combat with the Ganados villagers, explore a European village gripped by madness, and solve puzzles to access new areas and collect useful items for Leon and Ashley’s constant struggle to survive.
- Overwhelming Hordes – Face hordes of rabid enemies that threaten to overwhelm Leon with even more diverse methods of attack than in the original release.
- Survive on a Knife’s Edge – Years of intense training have taught Leon new ways to use his knife, helping to even the odds against the unrelenting onslaught of enemies. By parrying enemy attacks, you can avoid debilitating damage and evade lunging enemies seeking to grab Leon and hold him in place. Make smart use of scavenged knives to deliver precise finishing moves on vulnerable enemies, and even use the element of surprise to quietly dispatch unsuspecting foes before they break.

Pacing across the island and later settings
The original’s journey through Rockfort Island and its later settings has an uneven rhythm. A remake can redistribute objectives, shorten backtracking and make transitions easier to follow, but it should preserve escalation. Early isolation, exploration and uncertainty need room to work before the story accelerates into larger action sequences.
Modern pacing is not simply faster pacing. Removing every pause would flatten the contrast that makes horror effective. The important question is whether each location changes the player’s situation, resources or understanding of the characters.
Horror tone versus action escalation
Code: Veronica moves between oppressive horror and more aggressive set pieces. A remake can make that progression feel intentional by tying enemy variety, sound design and encounter density to the story’s rising stakes. If the escalation arrives without emotional or mechanical preparation, better controls will only make the tonal whiplash easier to notice.
Best Value
- Out-of-This-World Adventure – Stranded on a lunar space station, Hugh encounters Diana, a mysterious android resembling a young girl. While searching for a way back to Earth, they fight to survive against Bots directed to “neutralize” intruders.
- Hack & Shoot – Use each character’s distinct abilities to take down enemies. In combat, Diana can hack foes to expose weaknesses so Hugh can blast them with weapons. This unique fusion of gameplay offers an action-packed experience like no other.
- Space Exploration – Teamwork also extends to traversing the station. Utilize the thrusters in Hugh’s futuristic suit to dash and hover around while Diana hacks security systems to solve puzzles. Only together can they overcome all obstacles.
- Collect and Customize – Gather materials while exploring the station to unlock upgrades, build out a diverse arsenal of weapons, obtain new outfits, and more. Once you’re ready, use the new gear in battle and take on even greater challenges!
What “reimagined story” should mean in practice
Capcom has not described every plot change, so no detailed list of revisions is confirmed. The phrase does establish that this is not being presented as a frame-for-frame restoration. The useful standard is whether changes solve identifiable problems while protecting the game’s core relationships, locations and sense of escalation.
- Motivation: Claire’s objectives, Chris’s decision to return and the Ashford conflict should be understandable from the scenes that precede them.
- Transitions: Changes in location and playable character should carry narrative consequences instead of feeling like disconnected chapters.
- Mechanical identity: Exploration, inventory decisions and survival-horror tension should remain meaningful after movement and aiming are modernized.
- Atmosphere: RE ENGINE visuals should support dread, not turn every environment into a brightly lit action arena.
- Fidelity: Familiar story anchors should remain recognizable even when dialogue, sequencing or encounter design changes.
What is still unknown
No controlled usability test, review consensus or player-satisfaction statistic establishes that one perspective system is superior. The case for broader modernization is editorial analysis based on Capcom’s announced features, protagonists and remake goals, not a measured finding about player performance.
Capcom has also not published a complete breakdown of the remake’s combat systems, inventory rules, level order, platforms beyond the official product information, or the exact scope of its story changes. Those details will determine whether third-person-only play feels like a confident design choice or simply a limitation.
The standard Veronica should meet
Resident Evil Requiem demonstrates that Capcom is willing to treat viewpoint as a meaningful gameplay tool. Resident Evil Veronica is taking a different route: one perspective, a reimagined narrative and modernized gameplay built around Claire and Chris. That can work, but only if the camera is supported by readable combat, purposeful level flow, coherent sibling motivations and a controlled transition from horror to action.
The remake does not need to copy Requiem’s controls to justify itself. It needs to show that third-person consistency is the foundation for a better-structured Code: Veronica, not the whole modernization plan.
