The goal is to survive the sequence and reach its story trigger. Use barricades to buy time, collect the M1897 shotgun and nearby supplies, guard when enemies close in, and keep moving when a position is about to fall.
What ends the village attack?
The encounter advances through survival and progression, not by clearing the horde. PC Gamer’s walkthrough says trying to kill every enemy is pointless; Gameranx’s guide likewise explains that defeating enemies does not end the attack. Conserve ammunition for threats that are immediately in your way, and focus on reaching the next defensible position or escape route.

There is no need to follow one perfectly rigid route: walkthroughs describe the sequence’s landmarks somewhat differently. Keep moving as the horde presses in, use the available exits, and look for the story transition that ends the assault.
How to get through the attack
-
Use your guard and leave the first encounter
When the first Lycan attacks, guard to reduce incoming damage and create an opening. Use the bolt cutters to leave through the chained gate rather than spending scarce ammunition on a kill that is not required. The GameFAQs walkthrough and Gameranx’s harder-difficulty guide cover this opening sequence.

-
Loot and barricade the first building
Collect nearby resources, then move the shelving across the entrance to delay attackers. Keep watch for other entry points; a barricade buys time but does not make the room permanently safe. If a Lycan gets inside, handle the immediate threat, then use the radio when the area clears, as described in the GameFAQs route.
-
Move to the larger house and take the shotgun
When the route opens, head for the larger house. Barricade its door, gather the ammunition and supplies, and pick up the M1897 shotgun. Do not stand at the entrance firing at every Lycan outside: the shotgun is useful, but the encounter still rewards survival and movement more than horde-clearing.

Use the flour sack and escape if the house is overrun
If enemies press into the house, strike a flour sack to create a brief cloud and opening. Take the ladder down and leave through the low opening rather than waiting for the position to collapse around you. PC Gamer and Gameranx both describe this as part of the escape strategy.
-
Keep changing positions and follow the route forward
Use the route toward the red gate and other available exits as pressure increases. Guard if cornered, and avoid stopping to fight enemies that are not blocking your next move. PC Gamer describes a story cutscene near the hanging pot and logs; other walkthrough details vary, so treat landmarks as orientation rather than a requirement to copy every turn exactly.

Choose a strategy that fits your situation
| Approach | What it does | Best fit and trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Move between buildings and toward the escape route | Creates distance from packs and advances you toward the encounter’s progression trigger. | Good when you know where to go; navigation is harder under pressure, so save ammunition for immediate threats. [PC Gamer] |
| Hold a barricaded position briefly | Movable shelves or cabinets delay entry and give you time to collect supplies or defend yourself. | Useful when you need a moment, but the defense is temporary and other entry points still need attention. [PC Gamer; Gameranx] |
| Fight Urias | GameFAQs associates defeating Urias with the optional Timber Trophy. | Only pursue this challenge if you want the trophy and can accept the risk of spending resources; surviving and escaping is the normal objective. The guide notes its claim about first-run ammunition limits is unconfirmed. [GameFAQs] |
Difficulty, available ammunition and healing, route familiarity, and whether you want the optional trophy all affect which approach feels safest. The harder-difficulty advice from Gameranx emphasizes delaying entry and using the environment, but no single tactic is guaranteed to work identically on every setting.

Guarding reduces incoming damage, so use it when a Lycan closes the distance or you are cornered. Aim deliberately and fire to clear an immediate obstacle rather than trying to eliminate the crowd. Capcom’s PS4 web manual documents configurable controls for aiming, guarding, running, attacking, using recovery items, inventory, reloading, and crouching. Controls can be changed in the Options menu, so button prompts vary by platform and selected control type.

Is Urias required?
No. Treat Urias as an optional fight, not the objective of the village attack. GameFAQs links defeating him to the Timber Trophy, but its walkthrough presents surviving and escaping as the ordinary approach. If you are focused on progressing, prioritize avoiding damage and reaching the route forward.
Quick Recap
Why the defenses stop working
- You are trying to clear the horde. The sequence is not a kill-all encounter. Use ammunition when an enemy blocks your immediate path, then move on.
- You are staying behind a barricade too long. Shelves and cabinets delay entry; they are not a permanent safe room. Watch other openings and leave when attackers overwhelm the position.
- You are taking damage while navigating. Guard when enemies get close, and use flour sacks to create a brief opportunity to reposition.
- You are unsure which controls to press. Check the controls for your platform and selected control type in Options; Capcom’s linked manual covers PS4 controls.
