If your progress seems missing, first check the correct save system for your platform and distinguish a local save from online statistics.
Does the latest Resident Evil Village patch cause a save-file bug?
That claim is not currently confirmed. A Steam search result for an October 14, 2022 update reported a change to security features and warned of possible conflicts with third-party software; it also said save data created while such software was in use might not function properly even after the software was removed. The original notice is not available to verify here, so this is a historical, narrowly qualified warning—not proof of a current widespread patch bug or a confirmed fix.

The available evidence does not identify a current affected version, platform, reproducible symptom, or official remedy. A problem after an update does not by itself show that the update caused it. Check which platform and edition you use, the game version, and whether the issue is a missing local save or online data that is not appearing.
First check: is the local save missing, or is Resident Evil.net not reflecting play data?
These are different problems. Capcom’s May 19, 2021 notice concerned some PS5 players whose uploaded play data was not appearing on Resident Evil.net. Capcom identified the related patch as version 1.002.000 and said some categories that had not been reflected earlier could not be recovered. If the game itself cannot show your progress, troubleshoot the local save on the relevant platform. If the save loads but statistics are absent from Resident Evil.net, do not assume that your local progress has been erased.
How to check for an older save on PS5
Capcom documents checkpoint autosaves and manual saves made at typewriters for the main game, VR mode, and Shadows of Rose. The game’s Continue option loads the most recent data, which can include an autosave; Load Game lets you choose a saved slot.

- From the game’s menu, choose Load Game.
- Inspect the AUTO SAVE entry and the available manual slots. Choose the entry that contains the progress you want to resume.
- If you instead choose Continue, the game loads the most recent data, including autosaves; it may not select the older manual slot you want.

Back up Mac saves before uninstalling or cleaning up files
Capcom warns that some Mac uninstall tools remove related files as well as the application, which can delete save data. Before uninstalling or using a cleanup utility, back up your save data. Capcom lists this Mac save-data directory:

Transfer a Resident Evil Village save from PS4 to PS5
For this specific PlayStation-generation transfer, Capcom’s support article—last updated July 17, 2026—directs players to upload the save from the PS4 game and then download it in the PS5 game:
- In the PS4 version, select Upload Save Data.
- In the PS5 version, select Download Save Data.
Capcom says a transfer from PS5 back to PS4 is unavailable. This procedure applies to the PS4-to-PS5 pairing only; it does not establish a transfer method for Xbox, PC, Mac, iOS, or other platform combinations. Capcom: How to transfer save data for Resident Evil Village
What to do if the save still does not appear
- Record the platform, edition, game version, and the exact point where progress disappears or fails to load. The available information does not establish one bug affecting every version.
- On PS5, check both the autosave and manual slots through Load Game before concluding that the progress is gone.
- On Mac, back up the save folder before uninstalling or running file-cleanup tools.
- If your local game progress is present but Resident Evil.net is missing play data, treat it as a service-reflection issue rather than evidence of a deleted save.
The available official guidance does not confirm that a current patch caused the problem, promise recovery, or validate third-party save-repair tools. Use platform- and version-specific support rather than applying a fix intended for a different system.
