The Switch 2 Resident Evil 30th Special Pack ships as three separately packaged games in anniversary packaging, so it is not a single bundle in the usual sense. The main catch is the format. The Switch 2 versions use key cards, and the game software is downloaded the first time you play. A physical box that needs a download before anything runs is a thin version of the “bundle” idea, and that is the core of this critique. Calling it a missed opportunity is our opinion, but the packaging facts behind it are documented by Capcom.
What the 30th Special Pack actually contains
Capcom’s Japanese e-Capcom listing for the Switch 2 30th Special Pack describes three packaged games. The listing presents them as special 30th-anniversary packaging and adds a limited Grace “APOCALYPSE” costume delivered by download code. Confirm the details on the Capcom e-Capcom listing, because the page is written for the Japanese market.
| Item | What the listing states |
|---|---|
| Resident Evil Requiem Deluxe Edition | Physical Switch 2 key card, included in the pack |
| Resident Evil Village Z Version Gold Edition | Physical Switch 2 key card, included in the pack; listed with a CERO Z rating |
| Resident Evil 7 biohazard Gold Edition | Physical Switch 2 key card, included in the pack |
| Grace “APOCALYPSE” costume | Limited bonus delivered by download code; the stated validity runs through February 27, 2027 |
| Packaging | Special 30th-anniversary packaging for all three products |
Those are the facts that support calling this a set of three games sold together. They do not support calling it a bundle of playable game data, and the next section explains why.
Why the key-card format matters
Capcom’s listing says the Switch 2 packaged editions use key cards. A key card is a license and download token, not the game itself. According to Capcom, the setup works like this:
#1 Best Overall
- Play anywhere: play Resident Evil Triple Pack on the go using the Nintendo Switch system's handheld or at home in tabletop mode.
- Two-player local and online co-op: experience Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 locally or online with a friend.
- Game enhancements: includes a variety of game improvements for both Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6.
- Includes map packs, special costumes, plus the game modes from Resident Evil 4, 5, and 6.
- Insert or register the key card on a Nintendo Switch 2 console.
- Make sure the console has an internet connection. Capcom lists this as a requirement.
- Confirm at least 30 GB of free storage on the system. Capcom states this minimum for the packaged editions.
- Start the game for the first time. The main game software downloads at that point.
- Play as normal after the download finishes. Later sessions do not repeat the first-run download.
The practical consequence is simple. Buyers who expect a complete offline copy on the card will be disappointed. A console without internet access cannot finish setup, and a console with less than 30 GB free cannot complete the download. Those are not edge cases for a three-game package; they are the normal first-day experience.
Capcom’s listing is also the only source we used for the storage and connection requirements. Its numbers apply to the packaged Switch 2 editions in Japan. We did not verify how the same key cards are handled in other regions.

- Amazon Exclusive - 2 sided poster included in every game!
- Grace Ashcroft, an FBI intelligence analyst who is introverted and easily scared, representing a new type of character for the Resident Evil series. Grace will experience horror from the same perspective as the player as she learns to overcome her fears throughout the course of the story.
- For the first time ever in Resident Evil history, players will be able to freely switch between both first- and third-person perspectives throughout the game.
- An Anniversary to Remember: With March 2026 marking the Resident Evil series’ 30-year anniversary, Resident Evil Requiem marks its own milestone in the franchise.
- Pre-orders for Resident Evil Requiem are now open, with the bonus of Grace’s costume: Apocalypse. Please note that the picture weapon does not come with the costume, but it can be obtained in-game.
Is it a missed opportunity?
The fair defense is that a physical Switch 2 release of modern Resident Evil titles would need a lot of space, and updates would make an offline snapshot stale quickly. A key card with a download also keeps the cartridge small and lets Capcom ship the current version. Those are real trade-offs, not excuses invented for the product.
Still, the format works against the anniversary angle. The pack is marketed as a commemorative set, yet the physical object does not deliver the game on its own. Three titles, special packaging, and a costume code add up to a collector’s package whose most valuable element, the playable software, arrives over the network. For many buyers, the result feels more like a voucher with a box than a bundle.

- Two-Player Local and Online Co-op - Experience Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 locally or online with a friend.
- Play Anywhere - Play Resident Evil Triple Pack on the go using the Nintendo Switch system's handheld or at home in tabletop mode.
- Resident Evil Triple Pack - Includes a physical cartridge containing Resident Evil 4, and download vouchers for Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6.
- All Game Modes and Previously Released DLC - Includes all map packs, special costumes, plus the Separate Ways' epilogue and 'Mercenaries' game mode from Resident Evil 4; the 'Lost in Nightmares,' Desperate Escape' and 'The Mercenaries United' game modes from Resident Evil 5; and the 'Onslaught,' redator,' 'Agent Hunt' and 'Survivors' game modes from Resident Evil 6.
The missed opportunity is clearer when you compare it with what a buyer would reasonably want from a 30th-anniversary physical release: a clear statement up front about the storage and connection requirements, a stronger offline story, or a version whose extras stand on their own. The packaging does not make these problems hidden, but it does not solve them either.
Do not confuse it with the Generation Pack
Capcom’s November 2025 announcement described a separate Nintendo Switch 2 Resident Evil Generation Pack. It was a digital offer that included Requiem, Resident Evil 7 biohazard Gold Edition, and Resident Evil Village Gold Edition, according to the Capcom USA announcement. Nintendo Australia’s Nintendo Australia product page describes the same kind of digital bundle and warns that the games can be bought individually, so check prior purchases before paying twice.

- Relive the classic horror in either its original settings or modified to modern-day standards
- Play as Albert Wesker in Resident Evil 0 - After completing the main campaign, players will be able to take control of the fan-favorite series antagonist, complete with his Uroboros powers from Resident Evil 5, to wreak havoc in the all new Wesker Mode
- Play Anywhere: Play Resident Evil Origins Collection on the go using the Nintendo Switch system's handheld or tabletop mode
Nintendo Life reported on March 5, 2026 that the digital Generation Pack was scheduled to leave the Switch 2 eShop on March 31, 2026, with the individual titles expected to stay available. That date has passed, so the Generation Pack should be treated as a closed promotion. It is not the same product as the physical 30th Special Pack, even though the overlapping games can cause confusion.
| Feature | 30th Special Pack (physical, Japanese listing) | Generation Pack (digital promotion) |
|---|---|---|
| Format | Switch 2 key cards with a required download | Digital eShop purchase |
| Games | Requiem Deluxe Edition, Village Z Version Gold Edition, RE7 Gold Edition | Requiem, RE7 Gold Edition, Village Gold Edition |
| Storage and connection | Internet connection and at least 30 GB free, per Capcom | Not stated in the sources we reviewed |
| Bonus | Grace “APOCALYPSE” costume code, valid through February 27, 2027 | Not stated in the sources we reviewed |
| Status | Listed on Capcom’s Japanese store; current availability not verified | Scheduled to end March 31, 2026, per Nintendo Life; the date has passed |
The Pro Controller version is a separate configuration
Capcom also lists a version of the 30th Special Pack that includes a Resident Evil Requiem Edition Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller, on its own e-Capcom page at Capcom e-Capcom controller bundle. The controller is not part of the standard pack. Capcom’s listing also states that it does not work with the original Nintendo Switch, so it is only relevant to Switch 2 owners.

Before you buy
- Check the region. The 30th Special Pack listing we reviewed is on Capcom’s Japanese store and lists a CERO Z rating. It does not establish US or other regional availability.
- Check the price, stock, and seller on a current retailer page. We did not verify a current US price or stock level.
- Confirm the Switch 2 has internet access and at least 30 GB free before you open the box.
- Check whether the Grace costume code is still valid. Capcom lists February 27, 2027 as the stated validity date.
- If you already own any of the three games, check your eShop purchase history before buying the physical pack.
Verdict
The 30th Special Pack is three games in anniversary packaging, and the physical release is real. But the key-card format means the box is a license and download gate, not a complete game in hand. That makes the “isn’t really a bundle” critique fair as commentary, and it makes the product weaker than its anniversary framing suggests. A clearer offline option, or a plainer explanation of what the box really delivers, would have served buyers better.
For franchise context, Capcom reported cumulative Resident Evil series sales of 174 million units as of June 30, 2025, in its Capcom press release. That figure covers the whole series, not this pack, and it does not tell us how the 30th Special Pack has sold.
