NatalieTheNerd’s AGB-CPU-03 is a reverse-engineered reproduction of a Game Boy Advance motherboard, created as a learning project and to help repair badly corroded boards. The project provides board files for fabrication, but it is not documented as a ready-to-assemble kit: a restoration also calls for salvaged components and a shell, and the creator warns that the design may contain inaccuracies.
What is the AGB-CPU-03 board?
It is a recreation of the AGB-CPU-03 revision of the original Game Boy Advance motherboard. The creator, NatalieTheNerd, says the project began as a way to learn reverse engineering and fix corroded boards. The project includes scans, schematics and PCB files; Hackaday described it as a resource for GBA restoration and modding.
NatalieTheNerd’s AGB-CPU-03 project repository provides the design materials. Hackaday’s October 25, 2023 coverage also describes the recreation and its potential uses.
Can it help restore a corroded GBA?
Potentially, if the original motherboard is too damaged to repair and you can transfer or source the components needed to populate the replacement PCB. The described build pairs the board with salvaged parts and a new shell. The project does not provide a complete, validated bill of materials, so it does not establish every component needed or whether all can be found new.

- Product quality: selected materials, after strict quality inspection, sturdy and durable, safe and reliable, use at ease.
- Good performance: easy and convenient operation, stable operation, strong compatibility.
- Professional factory: advanced equipment to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Pre-purchase check: Before purchasing, please carefully check the product model, size and year to ensure that it meets your needs.
- Attentive service: we have a professional after-sales team, if you have any questions, please contact us, we will make you have a pleasant shopping experience.
This is a bare-board fabrication project, not a documented drop-in replacement or a complete restoration kit. You should be prepared to fabricate and assemble a PCB and to assess which parts from a donor GBA can be reused.
What do you need to fabricate the PCB?
The repository provides Gerber files and links to a fabrication service. Its README instructs builders to order a 1 mm-thick board with an ENIG finish. Those are the creator’s stated fabrication specifications; check the repository files and the fabricator’s current order options before placing an order.

- PCB files: The Gerbers provided in the project repository.
- Fabrication: A PCB service capable of producing a 1 mm board with an ENIG finish.
- Components: Salvaged parts are part of the restoration approach described by the project; there is no complete, validated parts list.
- Enclosure: The described build uses a new GBA shell.
- Assembly capability: The project does not document an assembled product, so builders should expect to handle component transfer and board assembly themselves.
Can the outline be reused for an ESP32 or Raspberry Pi project?
The repository includes a KiCad outline file that the creator suggests using as a starting point for projects such as Raspberry Pi or ESP32 builds. Hackaday also mentions RetroPie and ESP32 ideas that could fit a standard GBA form factor. These are suggested experiments, not completed, supported builds; the outline alone does not establish electrical compatibility, a working design, or a ready-made handheld.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What are the design’s limitations and usage terms?
The creator explicitly warns that schematic values and layout may be inaccurate, noting that they are a hobbyist rather than a Nintendo electrical engineer. They say they have made multiple boards using the schematics, but that does not amount to factory validation or a guarantee that every reproduction will work. Builders should inspect the design and be prepared to troubleshoot.
