Bring an Ice weapon if you can, wear thunder-resistant armor, and move out of the line of its charged lightning beam. Its recovery after that attack is your clearest chance to punish the head.
Where to find Rey Dau
Rey Dau is a Flying Wyvern found in the Windward Plains. PC Gamer reports that it appears during thunderstorms, but that does not establish a precise spawn schedule or guarantee an appearance in a particular quest. Check the current in-game quest list for available hunts.

What is Rey Dau weak to?
Ice is the strongest listed elemental weakness: the Ascendance Database rates Ice two stars and Water one star. Fire, Thunder, and Dragon have no star rating there. Icy Veins also identifies Ice as Rey Dau’s greatest weakness, Water as its next-best option, and Thunder as ineffective. These are guide and database ratings, not official patch documentation.

Wear thunder-resistant armor
The database recommends thunder resistance, and its attack descriptions include Thunderblight. Prioritize this defense if you are struggling to survive the lightning attacks.

Prefer a Pitfall Trap over a Shock Trap
Icy Veins recommends Pitfall over Shock Trap because of Rey Dau’s electrical resistance. The database marks Flash as effective, lists Pitfall and Shock Trap without ratings, and marks Sonic as ineffective. Treat trap recommendations as guide advice rather than a guarantee for every situation.
Choose a weapon you can use safely
PC Gamer suggests mobile weapons for positioning and blunt weapons for breaking wing bones or horns. Those are editorial suggestions, not a universal weapon ranking. Comfort and the ability to avoid the beam matter more than switching to a weapon you cannot handle.

How to survive Rey Dau’s attacks
Charged lightning beam
Watch for Rey Dau to raise its head, charge electricity, and aim its horns; it may also spread its wings as it prepares a thick forward bolt. Leave the forward firing line and move toward a flank rather than staying in front of the horns. When the beam ends, the head is exposed during recovery. If you are already in a safe position, use that opening for head damage or a Focus Strike. Do not cross lingering lightning to reach it.
Wing slash and tail spin
A raised wing can signal a wing slash. Evade forward and laterally as appropriate rather than backing straight away. If Rey Dau looks over its shoulder, prepare for a tail spin and move clear of the tail’s arc. PC Gamer reports that severing the tail reduces the threat from its tail attack.

Scattered bolts and charged rush
Scattered lightning can leave electric pools on the ground, while a charged rush can leave electricity along its route. Roll sideways to avoid the attack, note where the sparks land, and do not immediately chase along the rush path. Wait briefly for lingering hazards to clear.
Charged wings, tail, and aerial attacks
The Ascendance Database reports that charged wings or a charged tail touching the ground can create fulgurite, widen attack range, and increase charging capacity; it recommends breaking those parts. Icy Veins reports that Rey Dau can use its charged beam from the air while enraged, and PC Gamer describes aerial variations of lightning attacks. Keep room to evade laterally, and wait for the monster to land or finish its attack before committing to a long punish.

A practical hunt sequence
- Equip an Ice weapon if available and select thunder-resistant armor.
- Keep a position that lets you move off the line in front of Rey Dau’s horns.
- When it charges the beam, evade toward a flank and avoid crossing any lingering electricity.
- Use the beam’s recovery to attack the head or land a Focus Strike if you are safely in range.
- Watch for the wing-raise and over-the-shoulder tells, and give electric pools and the charged-rush path time to clear.
Exact quest names, unlock requirements, and event availability for standard, tempered, and Arch-Tempered Rey Dau are not established here. Attack patterns and balance can also change with game updates, so use the current in-game quest list and check current official information if a patch has changed the encounter.
