Ubisoft calls that area “Multiplayer” in its Season 19 update. The game supports cross-play, but cross-play and shared progress are separate features, and the best mode depends on whether your group wants a race, an event playlist, or a team arena.
How to join friends in Riders Republic
First, finish the tutorial: Ubisoft says the listed multiplayer modes become available afterward. Then use the game’s social area to meet or group with friends and plan or start an activity together. Ubisoft Annecy director Arnaud Ragot described the intended flow as: “You can meet your friends, group together, and then plan or start your session together.”

The interface has changed since that interview. In its Season 19 update, Ubisoft says the Social tab is now called Multiplayer, with quick access to Free For All, Tricks Battle, and Showdown. The update does not document a complete current friend-invitation sequence, so exact prompts and menu steps may differ by platform or game version.
Ubisoft also says friends can group up to play user-generated events competitively. That does not mean every multiplayer activity is a private, friends-only lobby; check the activity’s format before choosing it if your group wants to compete only among yourselves.

Which multiplayer mode should your group choose?
Ubisoft describes several distinct ways to play. The figures below are the mode sizes stated on its support page, not the number of friends guaranteed to fit in a private group.

These descriptions come from Ubisoft Help’s multiplayer overview. Modes have different formats and player fields, so do not assume a group can turn any one of them into a private session.

Can you play Riders Republic cross-platform?
Ubisoft advertises cross-play and cross-generation play for Riders Republic across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. Cross-play means playing with people on another platform. To use Ubisoft’s cross-play features, players need a Ubisoft account and the relevant platform accounts linked; Ubisoft’s general guidance says availability can vary by game and platform. Refer to the current Riders Republic platform listing and Ubisoft support information for the platforms currently supported in your region.
Cross-play is not cross-progression
Cross-play lets you play with someone using another platform. Cross-progression is about accessing your own game progress across platforms linked to your Ubisoft account. Ubisoft says cross-progression is available where you own the game on the destination platform; you may need to buy the game again for that platform. Owning one copy does not automatically grant every platform version.

Do you need a console subscription for online multiplayer?
Ubisoft says access to online multiplayer modes on console may require an active PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass subscription. The support page uses “may,” so check the current terms for your console, region, and subscription tier rather than assuming one rule applies to every player.
