If Windows says ripsui7.dll is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, repair the Ricoh printer package that installed it instead of downloading a loose DLL.
The error commonly appears while printing, opening Printer Properties, adding a printer, or starting an old printer utility. It can also appear after a Windows update, driver update, antivirus quarantine, failed uninstall, or a print-server change.

Fix 1: Reinstall the Ricoh printer driver
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
This is the most likely solution. A printer driver is a complete package containing the DLL, INF installation files, catalog signatures, registry settings, and spooler configuration. Copying only ripsui7.dll does not rebuild those dependencies.

- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Check the installed Ricoh printers.
- If several printers are listed, select each Ricoh printer and note its name, connection, and driver-related options.
If the error appears only when using one queue, that queue is the primary suspect. If the printer comes from an office print server, record the server and shared-printer name before removing anything.

2. Remove the printer
- In Printers & scanners, select the affected Ricoh printer.
- Select Remove.
- Confirm the removal.
- Restart Windows.
Removing the visible printer does not always remove its driver package. Continue with the classic driver cleanup if the error returns.
3. Remove the obsolete driver package
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
control printers. - Press Enter.
- Select an empty area of the Devices and Printers window.
- Select Print server properties from the toolbar.
- Open the Drivers tab.
- Select the old Ricoh PostScript driver.
- Select Remove.
- Choose Remove driver and driver package if Windows offers that option.
- Restart Windows again.
Do not manually delete folders from C:WindowsSystem32DriverStore. DriverStore packages must be removed through Windows printer management or the vendor installer.
4. Install the correct Ricoh package
Download the driver from Ricoh’s official support site for the exact printer model. Ricoh also provides a Device Software Manager that can detect compatible Ricoh devices and retrieve an applicable driver.
Choose the package based on:
- The exact printer model
- Windows 10 or Windows 11
- The system architecture
- The printer language, such as PostScript or PCL6
- A direct USB/network installation or a print-server deployment
Ricoh publishes separate PS Universal Print Driver packages for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows systems. To check your architecture:
- Open Settings.
- Select System.
- Select About.
- Read System type.
On 64-bit Windows, a 32-bit print application can still use a valid 32-bit driver component. Do not decide compatibility from the DLL filename alone. Use the complete Ricoh package that matches the printer and Windows environment.
Run Ricoh’s installer as an administrator if required, restart when prompted, add the printer again, and print a test page. A successful test page and a working Printer Properties window confirm that the driver package is loading correctly.

Time needed: 5–10 minutes
Security software can remove a printer-driver DLL even when the original package was legitimate. A missing file after a scan or security update is a strong reason to check quarantine history.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent quarantined items.
- Look for an entry referring to
ripsui7.dll, a Ricoh driver, or the affected printer package. - Check the file path and detection details before taking action.
Do not restore a file simply because its name matches the error. Verify that it came from a legitimate Ricoh driver package and inspect its digital signature through the file’s Properties window. An unsigned copy from an unknown location should not be whitelisted.
The safer repair is usually to remove the old driver and reinstall a fresh, signed package from Ricoh. If Windows Security repeatedly quarantines the newly installed package, run a full Microsoft Defender scan and contact the printer administrator or Ricoh support rather than adding a broad exclusion.
Fix 3: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
Use this fix when several Windows features or system files are failing, not merely one Ricoh printer. ripsui7.dll belongs to a printer-driver package, so DISM and SFC will not normally recreate it. They can still repair Windows component corruption that prevents driver installation or printer management from working.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Retry the Ricoh driver installation.
DISM repairs the Windows component store, while SFC checks protected Windows files. Running SFC first can leave it without a healthy source, so use DISM before SFC. Microsoft documents this sequence in its System File Checker guidance.
If SFC reports that it could not repair some files, review %windir%LogsCBSCBS.log, run pending Windows updates, and restart. If DISM cannot repair the image, Microsoft’s DISM repair guidance explains how to use an appropriate Windows repair source.

Fix 4: Repair a print-server or shared-printer installation
Time needed: 10–30 minutes
If the printer is installed from a server, the client computer may be receiving a damaged or obsolete driver every time it connects. Reinstalling only the local queue may not solve the problem.
- Remove the shared printer from Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Ask the print-server administrator to check the Ricoh driver under Print server properties > Drivers.
- Have the administrator remove the obsolete package only after confirming which queues use it.
- Install a supported Ricoh driver on the server.
- Reconnect the shared printer from the server.
- Print a test page and open Printer Properties.
Do not remove a server driver while other users or queues depend on it. On managed PCs, driver installation may also be controlled by Group Policy, endpoint management, or package deployment. The administrator may need to repair the server package rather than changing the workstation.
Fix 5: Try a supported printer language or newer driver
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
Older Ricoh PostScript packages may no longer install cleanly on a current Windows system. If the printer supports it, a current PCL6 package may work better, but changing printer language can affect fonts, color handling, finishing options, and advanced settings.
Before changing drivers:
- Confirm the printer model and supported languages.
- Check whether the application specifically requires PostScript.
- Test the current Ricoh PS package first.
- If it is obsolete or unsupported, test the current compatible PCL6 package.
- Print documents that use the features important to you.
A PCL6 driver is not a drop-in replacement in every professional workflow. Keep the PostScript driver when accurate PostScript processing or specialized finishing features are required.
Fix 6: Remove a stale startup entry
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
If the printer works normally and the error appears only during Windows startup, the missing reference may belong to an old Ricoh utility or printer-monitoring program rather than the active print queue.

- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps.
- Look for an old Ricoh utility or printer monitor.
- Select it and choose Disable.
- Restart Windows.
- Confirm that printing still works.
You can also check Settings > Apps > Installed apps for an obsolete Ricoh utility and remove it if it is no longer needed. Do not disable the active print spooler or remove a printer-management component that your organization requires.

What not to do
Do not download a loose DLL
Random DLL download sites can provide malware, the wrong architecture, an incompatible historical build, or a file that does not match the rest of the driver package. Even if copying it to System32, SysWOW64, or an application folder removes one message, it can leave the printer driver broken and create a security problem.
Use the complete driver package from Ricoh or your organization’s approved print server.
Do not use regsvr32 for this error
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. There is no verified evidence that ripsui7.dll is a self-registering COM component.
Running this command is therefore not a recommended repair:
regsvr32 ripsui7.dll
It may produce an error saying that the entry point was not found, because registering a printer UI plugin is not the same as installing its printer-driver package.
Do not start with Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET repair
Those runtimes provide different DLL families, including Visual C++ runtime files. They do not normally restore a Ricoh printer-driver UI plugin. Install them only when a separate application error specifically identifies one of those runtimes.

Why the error happens
The usual causes are:
- A damaged, incomplete, or removed Ricoh PostScript driver
- A Windows or printer-driver update leaving an old queue reference
- Antivirus quarantine
- A failed printer uninstall
- An incompatible legacy driver or wrong architecture
- A print-server package that was not updated correctly
- Broader Windows component corruption
- An unsigned or unrelated file using the same name
Older public records associate this file with Windows printer-driver storage, including DriverStore paths and Windows 7-era packages. That does not mean every Windows 10 or Windows 11 installation should contain the file in C:WindowsSystem32, nor does the filename alone prove that a copy is legitimate.

FAQ
Is ripsui7.dll part of Windows?
It is associated with the Ricoh PS Printer Driver UI Plugin, not a general Windows runtime. Windows may store the component inside its managed printer-driver locations after installation.
Is it malware?
The filename alone cannot answer that. Check the file’s location, digital signature, source package, and Defender scan results. A correctly signed file from a legitimate Ricoh driver package is different from an unsigned copy downloaded from an unknown source.
Should I install Visual C++ Redistributable?
Usually no. This is a Ricoh printer-driver component, not a Visual C++ runtime file.
Should I use SFC or DISM?
Use them when multiple Windows components are failing or when driver installation itself is being blocked by system corruption. Reinstall the Ricoh driver first when the error is limited to printing or Printer Properties.

What if the error names a game?
The game may be launching a stale printer utility or inherited system startup entry, but the strongest indication still points to a printer-driver reference. Check startup applications and installed Ricoh software before reinstalling the game.
What if the printer still works?
If only a startup shortcut or old utility reports the error, remove or disable that stale utility. Do not replace the DLL if the active printer queue is functioning.
When should I contact an administrator?
Contact the print administrator when the printer is shared from a server, driver installation is blocked by policy, multiple users see the same error, or the server still distributes an obsolete Ricoh package.
