Bungie ended the event on July 15, 2025. Its three difficulty modes offered different levels of guidance and challenge, while reward bonuses changed over the event’s final weeks. Bungie now lists Rite of the Nine as vaulted Year 7 content, so players cannot launch its event activities today.
What was Rite of the Nine in Destiny 2?
Rite of the Nine brought three dungeons into a limited-time event: Prophecy, Spire of the Watcher, and Ghosts of the Deep. How did the Rite of the Nine difficulty modes work?
Bungie presented three options based on dungeon familiarity and appetite for challenge. The descriptions below reflect Bungie’s guidance; they do not establish exact Power recommendations, guaranteed loot, or a precise quantitative ranking of difficulty. Bungie’s May 15 announcement described the modes.
| Mode | Best fit | What Bungie described |
|---|---|---|
| Explore | First-time dungeon players | Explained the activity and supported matchmaking. |
| Eternity | Players familiar with the dungeon who wanted extra rewards without the highest challenge | A middle option between the introductory experience and the most demanding mode. |
| Ultimatum | Dungeon veterans seeking the best Adept loot | Limited revive tokens, encounter timers or enraged bosses, and harder-hitting enemies. |
What rewards did Rite of the Nine offer?
Dungeon clears and armor
Bungie said a full clear of any Rite of the Nine dungeon could award extra final-boss drops. Full clears on Eternity or Ultimatum could also award armor. Armor used a knockout list: each qualifying clear awarded a new piece until the set was complete. These were possible rewards, not guarantees of a particular weapon or a specific drop from one run. Bungie’s June 12 update outlined the reward rules.

Rotating drop bonuses
The bonus schedule shifted during the event. Bungie’s June 12 update announced these windows:
| Dates in 2025 | Announced bonus |
|---|---|
| June 17–24 | Increased currency drops in all dungeons. |
| June 24–July 8 | All dungeons remained available; one featured dungeon received increased currency and weapon drops. |
| July 8–15 | All dungeons received increased currency and weapon drops, with further final-boss rewards for full clears. |
Bungie’s July 10 final-week post also reiterated that weapon drops and end-of-activity rewards were increased for the event’s remaining days.

Nonary Engrams
From July 1, 2025, players could buy Nonary Engrams from the Emissary for 350 Nonary Manifolds each, up to 20 during the event. Starting July 8, the Emissary also offered one additional engram per day to players who signed in and claimed it. Bungie said the engrams contained selected cosmetic rewards from across Destiny 2. These were event-period offers, not currently available purchase options.
Can you still play Rite of the Nine?
No. Bungie ended Rite of the Nine on July 15, 2025, and its current Destiny Content Vault documentation lists it among Year 7 seasonal narratives. Bungie’s Year 8 deprecation notice says related event bounties, missions, quests, engrams, seasonal heirlooms, and artifacts were removed or deprecated.

The official pages establish the event’s end and vault status, but do not provide a complete current acquisition route for every event weapon or cosmetic. Whether a particular reward is obtainable now needs to be checked separately; the event’s closure alone does not prove that every item is permanently unavailable.
