Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchPC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11“The program can’t start because RjvPlatform.dll is missing from your computer.” The rjvplatform.dll error usually points to damaged Windows recovery components, not a missing Visual C++ runtime or game file.
Which fix applies to you
- The error appeared during reset, recovery, startup, or Windows maintenance: repair Windows with DISM and SFC.
- It started immediately after an update: install pending updates, then use Windows 11’s repair reinstall if available.
- Windows Security recently quarantined a file: inspect Protection history before restoring anything.
- The file exists outside the Windows system directories: treat it as suspicious and scan the computer.
- SFC or DISM cannot repair Windows: use System Restore or an in-place Windows reinstall.
- A particular application displays the message: identify the application, but do not assume it owns this DLL. Public evidence does not establish a common game or program that legitimately requires it.
What rjvplatform.dll is
RjvPlatform.dll is a Microsoft Windows component named Windows Rejuvenation Platform. It supports Windows reset and recovery infrastructure. It is not a separately installed application dependency and is not part of Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET.

Legitimate copies are normally found below these directories:
C:WindowsSystem32SystemResetPlatformRjvPlatform.dll
C:WindowsSysWOW64SystemResetPlatformRjvPlatform.dll
On 64-bit Windows, System32 normally contains the 64-bit system copy, while SysWOW64 is used for 32-bit components. The folder names are counterintuitive, so do not judge architecture from the name alone.

Windows releases and architectures can contain different versions and file sizes. Historical listings include Windows 8 and Windows 10 metadata, so an old version number should not be treated as the universal correct version for your installation.
What the error message means
You may see messages such as:
Rjvplatform.dll was not found.Error loading Rjvplatform.dll.Rjvplatform.dll is missing or corrupted.Failed to load Rjvplatform.dll.The specified module could not be found.
These wordings are commonly indexed by third-party DLL pages, but they are not all official Microsoft diagnostic transcripts.
“The specified module could not be found” can also mean that a dependency required by the DLL is missing. The named file may exist while another Windows component prevents it from loading.
Fix 1: Run Windows Update, DISM, and SFC
This is the safest first repair because the file belongs to Windows itself.
Install pending updates
- Open Start.
- Select Settings.
- On Windows 11, open Windows Update. On Windows 10, open Update & Security, then Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install all available updates.
- Restart the computer.
After restarting, repeat the operation that produced the error. If the message remains, repair the component store.
Run DISM
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes if User Account Control appears.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the operation to finish. Do not close the window if progress appears to stop temporarily.
- Restart Windows.
DISM repairs the Windows component source that SFC uses. It may obtain repair files through Windows Update.
Run System File Checker
Open an elevated Command Prompt again and run:
sfc /scannow
Wait until verification reaches 100 percent, then restart.
These results are the ones to look for:
- Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations: protected files appear intact.
- Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them: restart and test again.
- Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them: run DISM again, then rerun SFC.
If the manual process leaves you hunting through logs and repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for reported Windows problems; its free scan shows what it found, while repair is performed by the full version. It is optional, and Windows repair tools remain the appropriate first step.
Microsoft’s documented System File Checker repair procedure explains how to inspect the CBS log when SFC cannot repair a file.
Fix 2: Check whether Defender quarantined the file
Security software can remove or quarantine a damaged, altered, or suspicious copy.
- Open Start.
- Search for Windows Security and open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections involving
RjvPlatform.dll. - Expand the detection to see its original path and status.
Do not blindly choose Restore. Restore a file only when its original location is one of the expected Windows directories, its Microsoft signature is valid, and you are confident the detection is a false positive. Microsoft warns that Defender may detect the file again after restoration.
If the file was found in a download folder, temporary directory, game folder, or another user-writable location, leave it quarantined and run a full Windows Security scan. A misplaced DLL may be a malicious lookalike or part of a DLL search-order hijacking attempt.
Fix 3: Use Windows 11 repair reinstall
Supported Windows 11 installations may offer a repair reinstall that preserves applications, files, and settings.
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select System.
- Select Recovery.
- Find Fix problems using Windows Update.
- Select Reinstall now.
- Follow the prompts and keep the computer connected to power.
This reinstalls the current Windows version and can restore damaged recovery components. The option is not available on every installation. Microsoft documents the process in its guide to reinstalling the current Windows version.
Fix 4: Try System Restore
Use System Restore if the problem began after an update, driver change, cleanup operation, or malware-removal event.
Recommended Free Tools
- Press Win+R.
- Enter:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select an appropriate restore point.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore rolls back system files, registry settings, drivers, and installed programs to the selected point. It normally does not change personal files, but recently installed applications and updates may be removed.
You can also open Control Panel > Recovery > Open System Restore. A restore point must already exist for this option to work.
Fix 5: Check drivers only if the timing points there
A driver is not the normal owner of RjvPlatform.dll, and updating a random driver will not replace this Windows component. Check drivers only if the error began directly after a driver installation or a broader recovery problem.

- Restart Windows.
If identifying which of many installed drivers is stale is the difficult part, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify driver updates; the free scan shows the findings, while driver installation is performed by the full version. It is optional, and it does not replace repairing Windows when rjvplatform.dll itself is damaged.
Fix 6: Use a matching repair source
If DISM reports that source files could not be found, run it again with a valid repair source matching your Windows edition, architecture, and release:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:RepairSourceWindows /LimitAccess
Replace C:RepairSourceWindows with the path to the matching Windows repair source. Do not use a folder copied from a different Windows release.
After DISM completes, run:
sfc /scannow
Then restart and test again.
Fix 7: Perform an in-place Windows reinstall
If DISM and SFC cannot repair the installation, use official Windows installation media.
- Obtain installation media for the same Windows edition and architecture.
- Start Windows normally.
- Open the installation media.
- Run
setup.exe. - Continue through Windows Setup.
- Select Keep personal files and apps when offered.
- Complete the installation and restart.
Back up important personal data first. An in-place reinstall can repair Windows while retaining files and, when selected, installed applications. Microsoft describes this workflow in its Windows installation media instructions.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Do not download or register the DLL
Do not download rjvplatform.dll from a random DLL repository and copy it into System32. That can introduce malware, provide the wrong architecture, replace a newer file with an older one, or leave the actual component-store problem unresolved.
Do not copy it beside an unrelated application either. A copy in a game directory, download folder, or temporary directory is suspicious.
regsvr32 is also not a standard repair command for this file:
regsvr32 RjvPlatform.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration routines such as DllRegisterServer, typically COM or ActiveX components. RjvPlatform.dll is a Windows platform DLL, so registration may fail with an entry-point error and will not repair Windows.

How to verify the file safely
If the file exists but Windows still cannot load it:
- Right-click the file.
- Select Properties.
- Check the Digital Signatures tab.
- Confirm that the signer is Microsoft.
- Confirm that the path is below
System32SystemResetPlatformorSysWOW64SystemResetPlatform. - Do not replace it merely because its version differs from an online listing.
If the signature is missing, invalid, or the path is unexpected, scan with Windows Security and repair Windows rather than trusting the file.
Prevention
- Keep Windows updated.
- Leave Microsoft Defender protection enabled.
- Avoid registry cleaners and unofficial system-file repair utilities.
- Do not replace Windows DLLs with files from another computer.
- Back up personal data before reset or reinstall operations.
- Investigate recurring disk errors instead of repeatedly replacing files.
- If the problem followed malware, scan first and prefer official Windows repair media.
