rngcweb.dll is a third-party RealNetworks library associated with the 32-bit RealPlayer and RealJukebox software family. If Windows says rngcweb.dll is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, repair the RealPlayer installation that is requesting it rather than downloading a replacement DLL.
The file is not a normal Windows component. Its reported description is “Browser Support,” and it is associated with older RealPlayer or RealJukebox installations. The exact legacy version, size, hash, and normal installation path are not reliably documented, so do not treat a copy found in System32 or SysWOW64 as automatically genuine.

Do not copy rngcweb.dll into C:WindowsSystem32, C:WindowsSysWOW64, or another application folder. A manually copied DLL can have the wrong architecture, missing dependencies, or malicious modifications.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall RealPlayer
Time needed: 15 to 30 minutes
This is the most likely solution because rngcweb.dll belongs to the RealPlayer and RealJukebox software family, not to Windows.
Before uninstalling, back up media files, playlists, and any RealPlayer-specific configuration you still need. RealNetworks warns that removing library components can delete playlists even when the underlying music and video files remain on disk.
Remove the existing RealPlayer installation
- Close RealPlayer, RealJukebox, and any related RealNetworks windows.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpland press Enter. - In Programs and Features, look for entries such as:
- RealPlayer
- RealTimes
- RealNetworks
- RealJukebox
- Select the relevant entry and choose Uninstall.
- Follow the removal wizard.
- Restart Windows.
If the program is not listed, do not immediately delete its folders. RealNetworks’ documented workaround is to install RealPlayer over the existing installation first, then uninstall it and perform a clean reinstall.
Install a supported RealPlayer release
Download RealPlayer only from RealNetworks’ official website. The current product line is considerably newer than the era in which RealJukebox was distributed, so a current installer may not contain the exact old rngcweb.dll.
After installation:
- Restart Windows again if the installer requests it.
- Open RealPlayer from the Start menu.
- Try the action that previously produced the error.
- Check whether the error returns during startup or only when opening a particular media file.
If RealPlayer opens normally and the error disappears, the repair worked. If the old program still specifically requests rngcweb.dll, the current release may not be compatible with that legacy component. In that case, use a legitimate original installer or installation media for the old version, if available. Do not obtain the DLL separately.
Fix 2: Check whether an old startup entry is calling the missing file
Time needed: 5 to 15 minutes
A leftover RealPlayer or RealJukebox startup reference can trigger a DLL error even when you no longer use the application. This commonly happens after a partial uninstall or after restoring an old system image.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Check Windows startup apps
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps.
- Look for entries mentioning:
- RealPlayer
- RealJukebox
- RealNetworks
- RealTimes
- If the parent application is no longer installed, select the entry.
- Choose Disable.
- Restart Windows.
Disabling a startup entry prevents it from launching automatically, but it does not remove the underlying program. Uninstall the related RealNetworks software through Programs and Features when possible.
Check Task Scheduler
- Press the Windows key and search for Task Scheduler.
- Open it.
- Select Task Scheduler Library.
- Review tasks that mention RealPlayer, RealJukebox, RealNetworks, or RealTimes.
- Double-click a suspicious task and inspect the Actions tab.
- Confirm whether it launches a RealNetworks executable or references a missing path.
- If the task belongs to software you have removed, right-click it and choose Delete.
Do not delete a task solely because its name is unfamiliar. Check its action path and publisher first. If the startup error disappears after disabling a confirmed stale RealNetworks entry, the missing DLL was being requested by leftover automation rather than by an application you actively use.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security Protection History
Time needed: 5 to 20 minutes
Antivirus software may quarantine an application file. That does not prove that the file was malicious, but it also does not prove that every file named rngcweb.dll is safe.

- Review recent detections.
- Open any entry that names
rngcweb.dll, RealPlayer, RealJukebox, or a related RealNetworks executable. - Record the detected file path and the detection name.
Restore the file only when all of these conditions are satisfied:

- You obtained the installation from a legitimate source.
- You have confirmed that the detection is a false positive.
- The installer and system have been scanned and are otherwise trustworthy.
If the detection persists, do not repeatedly restore the file. Update Microsoft Defender, scan the installer, and reinstall RealPlayer from RealNetworks instead. If the file was located in a temporary folder, a user-download directory, or an unrelated system directory, leave it quarantined and investigate further.
Fix 4: Confirm that the old application is compatible with Windows
Time needed: 10 to 30 minutes
rngcweb.dll is associated with 32-bit RealPlayer and RealJukebox. A 64-bit version of Windows can run many 32-bit applications, but a 32-bit DLL must be loaded by a compatible 32-bit application. Installing a random 64-bit DLL with the same filename cannot solve that mismatch.
Check the program’s architecture and age:
- Open Settings.
- Select System.
- Choose About.
- Review System type.
- Right-click the RealPlayer executable or shortcut and choose Properties.
- Inspect the Compatibility tab.
You can test compatibility settings carefully:
- Right-click the RealPlayer shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Choose an older Windows version.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Launch the application again.
Compatibility mode cannot recreate a missing DLL or restore an obsolete RealNetworks service. It is useful only when the file is present but the older application has trouble running on the current operating system.
If the program still requests the old library after a clean reinstall, the exact legacy component may no longer be obtainable through the current RealPlayer product. At that point, replacing the obsolete application is safer than reconstructing its files manually.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFix 5: Repair Windows components only if Windows has broader problems
Time needed: 20 to 45 minutes
SFC and DISM are not first-line fixes for rngcweb.dll. They repair protected Windows components and the Windows component store, while this file is associated with an application owned by RealNetworks.
Use them when you also have problems such as damaged Windows features, repeated system-file errors, failed updates, or several unrelated Windows components failing.
Run DISM
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Enter:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the command to finish.
- Leave the elevated Command Prompt open.
Run System File Checker
Enter:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test RealPlayer again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If both commands report that Windows repaired files but rngcweb.dll remains missing, reinstall RealPlayer. These commands do not establish that the RealNetworks DLL itself has been restored.
When repeated SFC and DISM runs leave you guessing which Windows component changed, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system issues and show what it finds before repair; its full version performs the repair. Reinstalling RealPlayer remains the definitive fix when the missing file belongs to that application.
Fix 6: Check drivers only when the error began with a hardware or media change
Time needed: 15 to 30 minutes
A driver is not the normal source of a missing RealPlayer DLL, so driver work should not come before repairing the application. It becomes relevant if the error started after changing an audio device, graphics adapter, storage controller, or media hardware and other applications also fail.
Check Device Manager
- Press Windows key + X.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand categories such as:
- Sound, video and game controllers
- Display adapters
- Disk drives
- Storage controllers
- Look for a yellow warning icon.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
You can also inspect the device’s Properties and read the message under Device status. If Device Manager reports no problem and only RealPlayer shows the DLL error, return to the RealPlayer repair path.

When manually hunting through many hardware vendors and driver versions is the problem, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and identify available updates; the full version installs them. It is not a substitute for reinstalling RealPlayer when rngcweb.dll is missing from that application.
Fix 7: Do not use regsvr32 as a general DLL repair
Time needed: 2 minutes to verify, but do not run it routinely
regsvr32 registers DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a general-purpose command for replacing missing files or repairing every DLL-loading error.
Do not treat this as a routine fix:
regsvr32 rngcweb.dll
If the file is missing, the command cannot restore it. If the file exists but does not provide the required registration function, Windows may report an error. Even a successful registration would not repair a damaged RealPlayer installation or solve an architecture mismatch.
Use regsvr32 only when the software vendor specifically documents that the particular DLL must be registered. There is no verified evidence that rngcweb.dll requires manual COM registration.
Fix 8: Review Windows optional features only for a separate compatibility error
Time needed: 5 to 15 minutes
Windows Features are not a normal source for this RealNetworks DLL. Still, older media applications can sometimes depend on legacy Windows components, and checking the feature list can help distinguish a Windows compatibility problem from a missing application file.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
optionalfeatures
- Press Enter.
- Review the available Windows features.
- Do not enable features merely because a DLL error appeared.
- If the RealPlayer documentation for your exact version names a required feature, enable only that feature.
- Select OK and restart if Windows requests it.
Do not enable legacy components blindly. A missing rngcweb.dll still points first to the RealPlayer installation.
Fix 9: Consider System Restore only when the disappearance was recent
Time needed: 20 to 60 minutes
System Restore may help if the file disappeared immediately after a software removal, update, or configuration change and you have a restore point from before the problem.
- Press the Windows key.
- Search for Create a restore point.
- Open it.
- Select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point dated before the error began.
- Review the programs and drivers affected.
- Start the restore only if you accept those changes.
System Restore can roll back unrelated software, drivers, and settings. It should not be the first choice when a RealPlayer installer is available.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why random DLL downloads are a bad fix
Searching for rngcweb.dll and downloading the first matching file is risky for several reasons:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- The file may contain malware.
- The version may not match your RealPlayer release.
- The architecture may be wrong.
- Required companion files may still be missing.
- The file may have been renamed or repackaged.
- Placing it in a system folder can create conflicts.
- The original installation may still be damaged.
A DLL with the correct filename is not enough. The safe sources are a legitimate RealNetworks installer, original installation media, or a trustworthy backup of the complete application installation. Do not use DLL download sites websites or copy the file from another computer.

Common causes and the appropriate response
| Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|
| Damaged or incomplete RealPlayer installation | Uninstall and reinstall RealPlayer |
| RealJukebox or RealPlayer removed incompletely | Remove stale startup entries and scheduled tasks |
| Antivirus quarantine | Review Protection History and reinstall from a trusted source |
| Old 32-bit software on current Windows | Check compatibility and consider replacing the application |
| Restored disk image | Reconcile the old application with its registry and files |
| Windows component corruption | Run DISM, then SFC, only when broader Windows symptoms exist |
| Malware or storage failure | Scan the system and check drive health |
These are practical possibilities, not file-specific proof of what happened on your computer. Partial uninstall, failed updates, disk cleanup, antivirus quarantine, damaged storage, and restoration of an old system image can all leave an application reference pointing to a file that is no longer present.
What the error wording means
You may see wording such as:
- “The program can’t start because rngcweb.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “rngcweb.dll was not found.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because rngcweb.dll was not found.”
- “The application was unable to start correctly.”
- “The file is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
The exact wording varies by Windows version and by the application that loads the library. The message does not prove that Windows supplied the file. It only tells you that a program attempted to load a library and failed.
If the error appears at boot, investigate startup items and scheduled tasks. If it appears when launching RealPlayer, repair the RealPlayer installation. If it appears from an unfamiliar executable path, investigate that executable before restoring anything.

FAQ
Is rngcweb.dll a Windows file?
No reliable evidence identifies it as a Windows component. It is associated with RealNetworks’ 32-bit RealPlayer and RealJukebox software.
Does Microsoft Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET fix it?
Not as a first response. There is no verified evidence connecting this filename to those redistributables. Repair the RealPlayer installation first.
Where should rngcweb.dll be located?
It should be part of the RealPlayer or RealNetworks application installation. The exact normal path is not verified, so do not invent a location or place it in System32 or SysWOW64.
Can I copy it from another computer?
No. The other computer may have a different RealPlayer version, architecture, dependency set, or an unsafe file.
Does RealPlayer 25 contain this exact DLL?
That has not been verified. Current RealPlayer releases are newer than the RealJukebox era, and a current installer may use a different design.
Should I restore the file from Windows Security?
Only after confirming that it came from a trusted RealNetworks installation and that the detection is a false positive. Otherwise, reinstall from a trusted installer.
What if I no longer use RealPlayer?
Uninstall the obsolete RealNetworks software and remove its stale startup entry or scheduled task. If the error disappears, no DLL restoration is necessary.
What information should I collect if nothing works?
Record the full error text, the executable path, the Windows version, whether the error occurs at startup or launch, and the exact RealPlayer or RealJukebox version. That information separates a damaged application from a stale startup reference or a suspicious file request.
