These instructions target 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11. Roblox currently lists a DirectX 10-or-higher graphics feature level, at least 1 GB of RAM, and 300 MB of available storage as requirements. It supports Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge on Windows, and does not support Linux according to its official requirements page. Windows 10 compatibility is not the same as Microsoft support: Microsoft ended Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025.

1. Check whether Roblox is down
Before changing anything on your computer, open the official Roblox Status page. Check the live status of the website, Player, games, and game-join services.

If Roblox reports an incident affecting many users, local reinstalling and driver changes are unlikely to help. Wait for Roblox to resolve the outage and try again later. If the status page shows the services as operational, continue with the local fixes below. A status page is a live snapshot, not a guarantee that an outage cannot begin after you check it.
2. Restart Windows and close Roblox processes
A restart can clear a stuck Roblox Player process, a browser handoff that did not finish, or a temporary Windows lock on Roblox files. Roblox places rebooting near the beginning of its general desktop troubleshooting guidance.
- Close Roblox, Roblox Studio, and your browser.
- Open Task Manager with Ctrl+Shift+Esc.
- In the process list, select any remaining Roblox or Roblox Studio processes and choose End task. Do not end unrelated Windows processes.
- Restart Windows from Start > Power > Restart.
- After Windows loads, open Roblox and try joining one experience.
If Roblox works after the restart but breaks again after sleep or after repeatedly opening experiences, continue with the data-clearing steps rather than treating the temporary success as a permanent fix.

3. Clear temporary browser files and Roblox app data
Corrupted temporary files can cause Roblox to crash, fail to launch, or repeatedly ask to be installed. Close Roblox and the browser before deleting anything. Roblox’s desktop and error-403 guidance recommends clearing temporary data as part of its recovery process.
Clear browser data
In the browser you use to start Roblox, open its privacy or history settings and clear cached files and Roblox-related cookies. The exact label differs between Chrome, Edge, and Firefox. You do not need to delete saved passwords unless the browser specifically requires it.
Remove the local Roblox folder when a normal reinstall has failed
- Uninstall Roblox first if you are preparing for a clean reinstall.
- Press Win+R.
- Enter
%LOCALAPPDATA%and press Enter. - Find the Roblox folder and delete that folder only. Do not delete unrelated folders in AppData.
- Restart Windows before installing Roblox again.
Do not use registry cleaners, “game booster” utilities, or random cleanup scripts for this step. They are not required by Roblox and can create additional problems.

4. Repair or reset the Microsoft Store version
This step applies only if you installed Roblox through the Microsoft Store and Windows exposes Repair and Reset options for that package. A browser-launched Roblox Player installation may have different menus.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find Roblox.
- Select the three-dot menu, then Advanced options.
- Choose Repair and test Roblox.
- If Repair does not help, return to the same screen and choose Reset.
Microsoft describes this Repair-then-Reset sequence in its guide to repairing apps and programs in Windows. Reset can remove the app’s locally stored data, so use it only after Repair and be prepared to sign in again.
If you are unsure which Roblox version is installed, check both Installed apps and the application you launch from the Roblox website. Avoid troubleshooting two installations at once; remove the one you do not intend to use before testing the other.
5. Reinstall Roblox from an official source
Reinstalling replaces missing or damaged program files, but it is more effective when done in the right order. Use only the official Roblox website or the official Microsoft Store listing. Modified clients, unofficial launchers, and injected files can trigger anti-cheat errors or crashes.
Normal reinstall
- Close Roblox, Roblox Studio, and your browser.
- Uninstall Roblox from Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Restart Windows.
- Install Roblox again from the official Roblox website or Microsoft Store.
- Launch one experience and test it before reinstalling other related software.
If the normal reinstall does not work
Uninstall Roblox again, remove the Roblox folder under %LOCALAPPDATA% as described in Fix 3, restart Windows, and install the official client again. Roblox’s reinstallation guidance also recommends closing other programs, clearing temporary internet files, and checking firewall or security settings when installation continues to fail.
If you previously used a modified Roblox client or unofficial launcher, remove it completely before testing the official installation. Roblox specifically warns that modified versions can produce anti-cheat messages.

6. Check firewall, antivirus, VPN, and network restrictions
Security software can block Roblox from communicating with its servers. This is especially likely when Roblox opens successfully but cannot join an experience, although a blocked browser handoff can also make launch problems look like installation failures.
Allow Roblox without disabling protection permanently
- Check your antivirus and firewall notifications for a blocked Roblox process.
- Add the official Roblox application to the security product’s allow list when appropriate.
- If you temporarily disable a security product as a diagnostic test, reconnect and test Roblox briefly, then turn protection back on immediately.
- Never leave antivirus, Windows Security, or the firewall permanently disabled just to play Roblox.
Roblox explains that third-party antivirus and security restrictions can interfere with its client in its security-restrictions guidance.
Test VPNs, extensions, and another connection
Temporarily disconnect a VPN and disable browser extensions, particularly privacy, script-blocking, filtering, or security extensions. Then try Roblox again. If possible, test a different trusted internet connection. These are diagnostic tests—not instructions to leave your VPN or extensions off permanently.

7. Update Windows and check your graphics feature level
Outdated graphics drivers, unsupported graphics hardware, and a graphics device without DirectX 10 or higher feature-level support can cause initialization failures and crashes. Updating software cannot make hardware meet a feature-level requirement that it does not support.
Check DirectX and the display adapter
- Press Win+R.
- Type
dxdiagand press Enter. - Choose the Display tab. On some systems it may be named Display 1 or similar.
- Record the graphics adapter name and check Feature Levels or DDI Version.
- Roblox’s stated graphics requirement is DirectX 10 or higher feature-level support. If that level is absent, software fixes cannot bring that GPU up to the requirement.
Install official updates
- Open Settings > Windows Update and install pending updates.
- Open Advanced options > Optional updates and review available driver updates.
- Restart Windows after installation.
- If the graphics driver is not offered there, use the official support page for the exact NVIDIA, AMD, Intel, or computer-manufacturer model.
Microsoft documents Windows Update and optional driver updates in its official driver guidance. Roblox’s graphics troubleshooting page explains the dxdiag check and points users toward the graphics-card manufacturer. Do not make a random driver-updater utility your default solution.

If the crash began immediately after a driver update, use the manufacturer’s supported rollback method or Windows’ driver-management options rather than downloading an older driver from an unverified site.

At this stage, the remaining causes are often compatibility settings, modified clients, anti-cheat conflicts, overlays, emulators, process-suspension tools, capture software, or another background application.
Turn off compatibility mode
- Locate the Roblox executable or its shortcut.
- Right-click it and choose Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Clear Run this program in compatibility mode for if it is selected.
- Select Apply, then OK, and test Roblox.
Roblox says compatibility mode can produce a misleading “graphics out of date” message even when the computer otherwise meets the requirements. Its graphics troubleshooting guidance covers this setting and other graphics errors.
Use a Windows clean boot to find a conflict
Roblox’s anti-cheat guidance identifies incompatible third-party software, emulators, modified clients, process-suspension tools, some OBS-related interactions, blocked images, and Windows debug mode as possible crash contexts. Microsoft’s clean-boot procedure starts Windows with only essential services and startup programs so you can test whether another application is responsible.
- Press Win+R, type
msconfig, and press Enter. - Open the Services tab.
- Check Hide all Microsoft services. Do not disable Microsoft services before selecting this option.
- Choose Disable all, then select Apply.
- Open the Startup tab and select Open Task Manager.
- Disable the listed nonessential startup items, close Task Manager, and select OK in System Configuration.
- Restart Windows and test Roblox.
If Roblox works in a clean boot, the installation or hardware is less likely to be the cause. Re-enable services and startup items in groups, restarting and testing after each group, until the conflicting item is identified. If an error names a particular program or file, focus on that program instead of disabling security software indiscriminately.

If Roblox still crashes after all eight fixes
Contact Roblox Support with evidence rather than only saying that Roblox “doesn’t work.” Record:
- the exact error message or crash wording;
- your Windows version and whether it is 64-bit;
- whether Roblox came from the website or Microsoft Store;
- the graphics adapter shown by
dxdiag; - the DirectX Feature Levels or DDI Version shown on the Display tab;
- whether every experience fails or only one experience;
- whether another internet connection changes the result;
- whether Roblox launches after a clean boot; and
- the name of any process or application identified as a conflict.
This information helps distinguish a Roblox service incident, damaged local files, network filtering, unsupported graphics hardware, and a third-party software conflict. Roblox’s current support pages and status can change, so recheck the relevant computer-support section and live status page when diagnosing a later incident.
Optional PC maintenance tools: what they can and cannot do
You do not need a PC optimizer to perform the eight fixes above. For readers who specifically want an optional maintenance and diagnostic utility, Outbyte PC Repair says it can display Windows app-crash logs for reference and provide maintenance features. Its own documentation also says that no software can automatically repair a crashing app, so it should not be presented as a guaranteed Roblox fix or used instead of Roblox Support, Windows Update, or the GPU manufacturer’s official driver page. Review its current terms and features before installing any third-party tool.
