Storage: why an SSD matters
The store listing specifies 130 GB, but do not treat that number as the amount of free space you should have at the moment you begin installation. Leave additional room for downloaded updates, launcher files, temporary installation data, and shader compilation. An SSD is the practical choice for this game. Game Science’s separate benchmark documentation recommends an SSD for its minimum test configuration and lists an SSD as required for its recommended configuration.
If your PC lacks space or still uses a mechanical hard drive, a 2TB NVMe SSD can be a sensible upgrade because it provides substantially more headroom than the game’s nominal requirement. Check your motherboard or laptop first: NVMe drives require a compatible M.2 slot and may have interface, size, thermal, or heatsink restrictions. An SSD does not guarantee a particular frame rate, and not every computer can accept an NVMe drive.
How to download Black Myth: Wukong on Steam
- Install the official Steam client from Valve.

- Start with a conservative preset. If your hardware is near minimum, begin with lower quality and the intended display resolution rather than immediately enabling demanding effects.
- Use an appropriate upscaler. Try DLSS, FSR, or XeSS when supported by your hardware. Establish a stable baseline before changing several settings at once.
- Adjust ray tracing last. Ray-tracing options can be particularly demanding. Disable or reduce them if frame pacing is poor.
- Check temperatures. A game may initially perform well and then slow down if the CPU or GPU reaches a thermal or power limit.
- Configure your input method. The PC version supports controllers, but a gamepad is optional; keyboard and mouse remain available for players who prefer them.

5. Re-run the benchmark and reduce demanding settings
If the game launches but stutters or runs slowly, test a lower resolution or quality preset, enable a suitable upscaler, and reduce or disable ray tracing. Compare frame pacing rather than looking only at an average FPS number.
6. Check heat and power behavior
Monitor CPU and GPU temperatures while the problem occurs. A system that becomes slower after several minutes may be throttling because of heat, insufficient cooling, or a power limit. Resolve the underlying hardware or cooling issue instead of expecting a launcher reinstall to fix it.
