Roblox Error 517 is described by a third-party gaming guide as a server shutdown, often after an experience update—not as a confirmed internet problem. Roblox’s official error-code page does not list 517, so that explanation is not officially confirmed. First, wait briefly and try joining again; if the code keeps appearing, check Roblox Status and contact Roblox Support if needed.
What does Roblox Error Code 517 mean?
Spyld Gaming’s August 12, 2026 guide says Error 517 appears when the server a player was using shuts down, often after an experience update. Its suggested response is to try rejoining, which may place you in another server. This is a third-party explanation, not a confirmed Roblox definition: Roblox’s official error-code page does not list Error 517.
That omission does not prove the code is invalid; it means Roblox’s cited reference does not confirm what it means. Treat the server-shutdown explanation as a useful possibility, not a guaranteed diagnosis.
How do I fix Error 517?
- Wait briefly, then rejoin the experience. This is the first step recommended by the 517-specific guide. It may connect you to a new server, but it is not a guaranteed fix.
- Check Roblox Status if the problem affects more than one experience. Roblox Support says that during an issue or maintenance, “you may experience the following:” including joining experiences that are delayed or unsuccessful. Review Roblox Status and Roblox’s guidance on service outages.
- Contact Roblox Support if 517 persists or recurs. Include the exact error text, your device model, operating-system version, and the steps that reproduce the problem. Roblox requests these details for persistent connection issues through its general connection troubleshooting guidance.
Is Error 517 caused by my internet?
Not necessarily. The 517-specific explanation points to a server ending, while an internet connection problem is documented under a different code: Roblox says Error 279/ID 17 usually means the client and server are having difficulty establishing a network connection. If your displayed code changes to 279/ID 17, or the symptoms clearly indicate a connection-establishment problem, use Roblox’s Error 279/ID 17 guidance.

Roblox’s general connection article discusses issues such as firewall settings, slow or inconsistent internet, ports, problematic experiences, and reinstalling. Those are broad connection troubleshooting steps—not fixes Roblox identifies specifically for Error 517. Avoid buying networking hardware or downloading third-party tools on the assumption that they will resolve a server shutdown.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is Roblox down, or did the experience server shut down?
If only one experience shows 517, the third-party server-shutdown explanation is one possibility. If several experiences or Roblox features are affected, check Roblox Status for a platform incident or maintenance. Status information can help distinguish a wider service problem from a single experience issue, but it does not confirm the cause of an individual 517 error.
