If Roblox won’t install on a Windows PC, first check that the computer meets Roblox’s requirements and that you’re using the intended installer. Then try a restart, close other programs, clear your browser’s temporary files, and check whether security software is blocking Roblox. If those steps fail, follow Roblox’s clean-reinstall sequence.
Check that your Windows PC meets Roblox’s requirements
Roblox lists 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11 as the supported operating systems for its PC app. It also lists DirectX 10 or higher feature-level support and at least 300 MB of system storage. These are Roblox’s published requirements, not a guarantee that installation will succeed on every qualifying PC. See Roblox’s computer hardware and operating system requirements.
If you start installation through the Roblox website, Roblox lists Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge as supported browsers for its PC/Windows website. If the browser keeps asking you to install Roblox after you’ve installed it, that may be the “Endless Install Loop” described in Roblox’s general desktop troubleshooting guide.
Check which Roblox app or installer you’re using
Microsoft Store
If you install from the Microsoft Store, look for Roblox – Windows. Roblox says the earlier Store app was named Roblox. Its guidance is to install and sign in to the new app; after that, the old app can be uninstalled. Roblox says account progress and items are tied to the Roblox account. See Roblox’s guide to the new Microsoft Store app.

Roblox website
If you’re installing from the website, note which supported browser you’re using and whether it keeps returning to an install prompt. That repeated prompt is different from a specific launch or connection error; use the install-loop guidance rather than treating every Roblox error as an installer failure.
Try low-impact fixes in order
Roblox recommends trying its general desktop troubleshooting steps one at a time. Start with changes that are easy to reverse:

- Restart the PC. Then try the installation again.
- Close other programs. Retry the install with unnecessary applications closed.
- Clear your browser’s temporary internet files. If you install from the website, clear the temporary files for the browser you’re using, then try again.
- Check firewall and internet security settings. Confirm that Roblox is not being blocked by the Windows firewall or your security software. Roblox’s guidance is to check the relevant product settings; don’t disable antivirus protection across the board. For product-specific controls, consult Roblox’s security software restrictions article and the security product’s own instructions.
Uninstall and reinstall Roblox if the usual steps fail
Roblox advises restarting before reinstalling. If a standard reinstall does not resolve the issue, use its clean-reinstall sequence:
- Uninstall Roblox.
- Restart the PC.
- Install Roblox again using your chosen route.
Follow Roblox’s reinstall instructions for the current uninstall and installation guidance.

Match a specific error to the right fix
Not every message that appears while opening Roblox points to an installation problem. Use the support page for the error you actually see:
- Roblox keeps asking you to install it: See the desktop install-loop guidance.
- “Failed to Load Library”: This is a launch error. Roblox lists possible Windows file, security software, system update, or installation causes in its error-specific instructions.
- Error 266: Roblox describes this as a connection timeout, so it is a network-oriented issue rather than a general installer error. Use Roblox’s Error Code 266 guidance.
What to send Roblox Support if installation still fails
If the general steps don’t help, note the exact error wording, your Windows version, whether you installed from the Store or website, and which steps you tried. Roblox’s instructions for the “Failed to Load Library” error ask for the error and operating-system details; including your installation route and troubleshooting steps can also help explain what happened.
