Why revenue grew faster than bookings
Revenue and bookings are different measures, and Roblox reported different growth rates for each: revenue rose 38% year over year, while bookings rose 20%.

Revenue
Revenue is recognized over time. Roblox says most revenue is recognized over the estimated average lifetime of a paying user.
Bookings
Bookings is a non-GAAP measure that Roblox defines as revenue plus the change in deferred revenue and other non-cash adjustments. The company says bookings can provide a timelier indication of operating trends because of the timing of revenue recognition. In Q3 2023, substantially all bookings came from virtual currency sales, including one-time purchases and monthly subscriptions made through payment processors or prepaid cards.

Because the measures have different definitions and grew at different rates, bookings should not be described as revenue or treated as an interchangeable growth figure.
What the user and engagement figures show
Roblox averaged 70.2 million DAUs in Q3 2023, with 16.0 billion hours engaged during the quarter. Both were up 20% year over year. The company also reported 14.7 million average monthly unique payers and $19.02 in average bookings per monthly unique payer.

These measures describe different parts of platform activity: DAUs count daily active users, hours engaged measure time spent, and payer figures describe purchasing activity. User growth alone does not establish revenue growth or profitability; in this quarter, the reported net loss was $277.2 million.
How Q3 2023 compares with later Roblox results
Subsequent company reports make clear that 70.2 million DAUs is not a current user count. Roblox reported 88.9 million average DAUs in Q3 2024, up 27% year over year. Its Q3 2024 revenue was $919.0 million, up 29% year over year. A Q3 2025 shareholder letter later reported more than 150 million average DAUs, alongside 48% revenue growth and 70% bookings growth.

How to compare Roblox quarters fairly
- Compare the same reporting period—such as Q3 to Q3—and use the same year-over-year or quarter-over-quarter basis.
- Keep revenue and non-GAAP bookings separate; their definitions and growth rates differ.
- Read DAUs alongside engagement and payer measures rather than treating user counts as a proxy for spending.
- Check profitability separately. Growth in revenue, bookings, or users does not by itself mean the company posted a profit.
What Roblox’s CEO said
Roblox founder and CEO David Baszucki said the results reflected “our continued platform innovation and growth across all age groups and geographies.” That is management’s characterization of the quarter, not independent evidence that any single factor caused the reported growth.
