What happened at Rockstar North?
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said it was alerted at 5:02 a.m. on Monday, January 19, to an incident on Holyrood Road in Edinburgh. In reporting by PC Gamer, a service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 5:02am on Monday, 19 January to attend an incident on Holyrood Road, Edinburgh.”
The service reported structural damage at a commercial building and no reported casualties. Fire crews left the scene at 9:21 a.m. Rockstar later attributed the incident to a malfunction in one of its heating boilers; the company has not publicly specified a more detailed technical cause or damage assessment in the cited reporting.
What did Rockstar say about staff and the studio?
A Rockstar spokesperson, quoted by Push Square, thanked people who had reached out and the police and fire crews who responded. The spokesperson said: “Please know that everyone is well and our studio remains open and operational.”

Did the incident delay GTA 6?
The incident reporting and Rockstar’s response do not say that the studio event caused a delay, nor do they explicitly state that it had no effect on development. The timing of the emergency response is not evidence of a change to the game’s schedule. Without a direct statement linking the two, the incident and the release date should be treated as separate facts.

Rockstar’s official game page currently lists GTA VI as coming November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Rockstar Store listing shows the same date and names Rockstar Games as developer and publisher. This is the date Rockstar currently lists, not a guarantee that the schedule cannot change.
