Both ROG Xbox Ally models were available at their U.S. list prices when checked on August 18, 2026. Best Buy showed “Add to cart” for the $599.99 ROG Xbox Ally and the $999.99 ROG Xbox Ally X, while ASUS showed “Buy Now” for both.
Stock, delivery dates, pickup options and seller status can change during checkout or vary by ZIP code. Microsoft’s official Xbox retailer hub is useful for finding additional sellers, but its retailer availability module should be treated as a directory rather than a same-day inventory guarantee.

ASUS
The official ASUS ROG product page showed the standard model at $599.99 with a “Buy Now” button. Buying directly from ASUS can simplify the manufacturer warranty route, but delivery availability still depends on the order destination.
Microsoft/Xbox retailer hub
Microsoft’s Xbox retailer page links shoppers to Microsoft, ASUS, Amazon, Walmart and other listed channels. Retailer prices and inventory can differ, so use the destination page—not the directory alone—to confirm whether the listing is new, directly sold and available at MSRP.
Where to buy the ROG Xbox Ally X
Best Buy’s Ally X page showed the new model at $999.99 with “Add to cart” on August 18. The page also displayed open-box alternatives separately. An open-box unit is not equivalent to new retail stock: inspect its condition, included accessories, return policy and warranty before buying.
ASUS’s official Ally X page showed “Buy Now” at $999.99. Microsoft’s retailer hub indicated that Microsoft’s own channel could be sold out while Best Buy and ASUS remained purchase options, illustrating why a sellout at one retailer does not necessarily mean the model is unavailable everywhere.

Who should buy the standard Ally?
- Buy it if $599.99 is your spending limit or the $400 saving matters more than maximum performance.
- It suits lighter games, older PC titles, cloud gaming and buyers who mainly want Xbox and PC gaming in a handheld format.
- Its 512GB SSD can fill quickly, but ASUS documents a standard M.2 2280 storage format. Upgrading requires technical care; check the applicable warranty policy before opening the device.
Who should buy the Ally X?
- Choose it if you specifically want the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, 24GB of memory, 1TB of storage or the larger 80Wh battery.
- It is the more logical choice for demanding AAA games and buyers planning to keep the handheld for several years.
- It can connect to ASUS’s separately sold ROG XG Mobile ecosystem, which ASUS says can provide graphics performance up to an RTX 5090 Laptop GPU.
The Ally X is more powerful, but it is not automatically better value. It costs $400 more—a substantial premium. ASUS also advertises performance and battery improvements under specified games and test conditions; those are manufacturer claims, not universal independent test results.
Is the ROG Xbox Ally a real Xbox console?
No. The ROG Xbox Ally is a Windows 11 gaming PC in a handheld form factor, not a conventional Xbox console. It boots into an Xbox-inspired full-screen experience and can access supported Xbox games alongside PC storefronts such as Steam and Epic, according to ASUS.
Xbox Play Anywhere titles can synchronize progress across supported Xbox, PC and handheld devices. Xbox Cloud Gaming and Xbox Remote Play are also available subject to the applicable subscription, account, network and device requirements. The handheld does not natively run every game designed for Xbox console hardware.

PC compatibility is not the same as perfect handheld suitability. Some games need a launcher, keyboard input, manual graphics changes or anti-cheat support. Xbox’s Handheld Compatibility program can help identify games designed to work well on handhelds, but a compatibility badge is not a guarantee of a particular frame rate or graphics setting.

What does the three-month Game Pass offer include?
Both models include three months of Xbox Game Pass Premium, subject to the offer’s terms. Microsoft describes it as nearly a $45 value. ASUS says a valid payment method is required and the subscription continues automatically at the regular monthly price unless canceled.
Eligibility can depend on region and account history. Game libraries change by plan, region, device and time; some games require third-party launchers, and cloud gaming is subject to availability and compatible hardware and connections. Check the redemption terms supplied with your specific purchase before assuming the promotion can be claimed.
How to avoid a bad stock listing
- Check the seller. Confirm whether the retailer itself, ASUS, Microsoft or a third party is selling the device.
- Check condition. “New” is different from open-box, refurbished or used.
- Check the final price. Include tax, shipping, protection plans and any marketplace markup.
- Check fulfillment. Review the promised delivery date and whether pickup is actually available at your ZIP code.
- Check returns and warranty. Marketplace and open-box terms may differ from direct retail purchases.
- Check the Game Pass bundle. Make sure the exact SKU includes the three-month offer and that you are eligible to redeem it.
Useful stock labels have different meanings: “In stock” indicates retailer-reported inventory; “Add to cart” means an order can be started; “Buy Now” means the product page is accepting orders; “Sold out” means that channel is not currently taking orders; and “Coming soon” or “Notify me” means it is not orderable yet.
Should you buy now or wait?
Buy now if Best Buy or ASUS still offers the model you want new at its $599.99 or $999.99 U.S. MSRP. There is no reason to wait solely because Microsoft’s own store is temporarily sold out.
Wait if only marketplace listings remain, the price is materially above MSRP, the condition is unclear, or the delivery date is unacceptable. Stock can disappear between the product page and checkout, so treat this article’s status as a timestamped snapshot rather than a guarantee.
Quick Recap
Accessories worth considering
- Storage: A microSD card is the simplest capacity upgrade, although it should not automatically be treated as equivalent to a faster internal SSD. Xbox lists compatible SanDisk cards in 512GB, 1TB and 2TB capacities.
- Dock: A USB-C dock is useful for a monitor or TV, Ethernet, USB peripherals and charging. It is unnecessary if you only play handheld and already have a suitable charger. ASUS recommends a 130W-capable dock for some external-monitor and accessory setups.
- Case: A protective case is sensible for travel, but confirm whether it is included in the particular bundle; do not assume it is.
- External GPU: ROG XG Mobile is an enthusiast accessory for Ally X owners, not a normal required purchase. Its cost can undermine the value of a $999.99 handheld.
