Processor and expected gaming performance

ASUS advertises up to twice the battery life of the previous-generation ROG Ally X in a particular Hollow Knight: Silksong comparison. The test used 720p resolution, a 60fps limit, low in-game graphics settings, and Silent Mode. That is a manufacturer-provided, scenario-specific claim—not a general battery-life guarantee for all games.
In practice, demanding 3D games normally consume more power than lightweight 2D games, and higher brightness, frame-rate targets, performance modes, wireless use, and background Windows activity can all affect runtime. The 80Wh capacity improves the device’s headroom, but it does not remove the normal battery trade-offs of a Windows gaming PC.
Ports and connectivity
The handheld provides two USB-C ports, and both support display output and USB Power Delivery:
- USB4 Type-C: supports display output and Power Delivery; ASUS describes it as Thunderbolt 4 compatible.
- USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C: supports display output and Power Delivery.
- UHS-II microSD reader: supports removable storage cards.
- 3.5mm combo jack: supports compatible wired headsets or headphones.
Wi-Fi 6E with 2×2 support handles wireless networking, while Bluetooth 5.4 supports compatible wireless accessories. Bluetooth details can depend on the Windows version and software configuration.

Storage and SSD upgrades
The internal drive is a 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 2280 SSD. ASUS describes the Xbox Ally devices as using a standard M.2 2280 format and having an easier upgrade path than some compact devices. That gives owners a route to more internal capacity when a large PC game library exceeds the supplied 1TB.
SSD replacement still requires opening the handheld and following the correct service procedure. A UHS-II microSD card is the simpler removable-storage option. Although the device runs Windows 11 Home, Xbox presents it through a more controller-friendly handheld experience. The software layer includes a full-screen Xbox interface, a dedicated Xbox button, an enhanced Game Bar overlay, library access, chat, and quick access to the Command Center.
The Windows foundation also matters: the Ally X can access supported PC games from Xbox and other major PC storefronts. USB-C dock
A dock is useful if the handheld will be connected regularly to a TV or monitor, external storage, keyboard, mouse, or other USB device. The ASUS ROG Bulwark Dock and ROG 100W Gaming Charger Dock are the most directly relevant ASUS options in the product guidance. UHS-II microSD card
