Guides report two ways to get it: open the cabinet with Lockpick 11, or pull a concealed lever behind the nearby Workbench to bypass the lock.
Where to find Rookie’s Reward
Explore The Incognito and locate the Locker Room. The weapon is inside a locked cabinet near a Workbench, rather than lying out in the open. Game8 and Windows Central both describe the cabinet and its location aboard the ship (Game8; Windows Central).
How to open the weapon cabinet
Use Lockpick 11
The direct route is to open the cabinet with Lockpick 11, as reported by both guides. They do not establish whether the requirement changes with difficulty, patches, or game version, so check the lock’s current requirement in your game if it differs.
Use the concealed lever
- In the Locker Room, inspect the area behind the Workbench for a concealed lever.
- Windows Central says to climb the nearby stacked boxes to reach it. Game8 likewise reports that the lever disables the container’s power.
- Pull the lever, return to the weapon cabinet, and collect Rookie’s Reward.
This provides access without meeting the reported Lockpick requirement. The lever route is described by Game8 and Windows Central.

What Rookie’s Reward does
Rookie’s Reward is an SMG with a distinctive Level 1 mod: according to the guides, using it against enemies earns experience that improves the weapon. Windows Central reports that leveling increases damage, fire rate, and magazine size. The in-game description reproduced by that guide reads: “Finally a weapon that learns to get better… so you don’t have to!”

Windows Central says Rookie’s Reward does not accept a barrel mod, which limits options such as adding a silencer or changing its damage type. Game8 lists an optic slot, and the community Fandom wiki says an SMG optic can be fitted. A slot indicates compatibility, not where a specific optic can be found. Player reports in a Steam discussion mention Free Market Station, but that anecdotal thread is not enough to establish a reliable location for a particular scope (Fandom wiki; Steam discussion).
