Is my PS3 game playable in RPCS3?
Look up the game in the official compatibility list and match the entry to your copy. RPCS3 tracks compatibility by Game ID and game media, not by title alone. As the project puts it, “We track compatibility per Game IDs batched by Game Media, and not per Game Title.”

- Find the game in the compatibility list.
- Check the Game ID and whether the entry is for disc or digital media.
- Match any region or release variant identified by the entry to your copy.
- Read the listed status for that exact entry rather than relying on another edition’s status.
Disc and digital releases of the same title can have separate entries. Regional versions may also differ. A matching title name therefore does not establish that the list entry describes your edition.
What the status categories tell you
The list groups games by how far they progress in RPCS3. “Playable” is the category to look for when you want an entry classified as playable; other categories describe games that do not reach that classification. The status is the project’s assessment of that particular entry, not a promise about performance on every computer, RPCS3 build, or configuration.

These are RPCS3 compatibility-list classifications for September 2026, not a count of unique commercial titles guaranteed to work for every user. The project’s monthly statistics apply rules for online-only games, merged regional entries, and entries that are not PS3 games; the total should not be read as a count of distinct purchase editions.

Do disc and digital versions have the same compatibility status?
Not necessarily. RPCS3 gives disc and digital releases separate Game ID/media entries, so check the entry for the version you intend to use. A status attached to one release does not automatically apply to another release of the same title.

The RPCS3 FAQ advises readers to consult the compatibility list or game-specific forum discussions and says to “Ignore any estimates and guesses you find out there” about when a particular game will become supported. Treat the list as the project’s current report for an entry, rather than relying on predictions.

What do I need to run RPCS3?
Start with the project’s current Quickstart, linked from the RPCS3 repository. The repository describes RPCS3 as a free, open-source PS3 emulator/debugger written for Windows, Linux, macOS, and FreeBSD. Its README advises keeping graphics drivers up to date and says Windows users should install the Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2022.
The RPCS3 FAQ’s hardware requirements were last edited April 29, 2020. That historical section lists an x64 CPU, a 64-bit Windows, Linux, or BSD operating system, and graphics supporting OpenGL 4.3, and recommends a modern Vulkan-compatible GPU. Because the requirements may change and the page is dated, use the Quickstart to confirm present-day requirements instead of treating the 2020 list as current minimum specifications.

The FAQ’s 2020 statement that macOS was unsupported conflicts with the current repository overview, which names macOS as a supported platform. For current platform and setup information, follow the repository overview and Quickstart rather than the older FAQ statement.
How do firmware and game files fit in?
RPCS3’s official wiki index links to guides for dumping PlayStation 3 games and validating PS3 game dumps; the project also directs users to the Quickstart for setup. Consult the current official instructions for the steps that apply to your setup. The cited pages establish that dumping and validation guides exist, but do not establish detailed firmware installation, disc-reading, digital-copy, or decryption procedures here.

Technical setup guidance does not answer whether a particular firmware or game backup is lawful. Laws vary by jurisdiction, and the RPCS3 FAQ does not settle the rules for making or using backups in any country. It also mentions “obvious technical and legal limitations” in the narrower context of connecting to PlayStation Network with real PS3 systems; that statement is not a general ruling on backups, copyright, or circumvention law. Check current authoritative guidance for your location if legality is uncertain.
Can I use a keyboard or controller for local multiplayer?
Yes. The RPCS3 FAQ says local multiplayer is possible with up to seven concurrent controllers and describes mixing input types, such as one player using a keyboard while another uses a gamepad. A PC-compatible USB game controller is optional; the cited documentation does not recommend a particular model or establish support for every brand, Bluetooth adapter, or peripheral.
