Start with the emulator’s defaults, select Vulkan if your GPU supports it, and begin resolution scaling at 100%. Then check the specific game’s current compatibility report and configuration guidance before changing CPU or advanced options.
Start with a safe baseline
- Use a current RPCS3 build and its defaults. The project’s source code sets resolution scaling to 100% by default; that is a starting point, not a guarantee that a particular game will run smoothly at that scale. See RPCS3’s configuration defaults.
- Choose Vulkan when your GPU supports it. RPCS3’s FAQ recommends a modern Vulkan-compatible graphics card, and its quickstart guide directs users to select Vulkan in GPU configuration. This is a recommended renderer, not a promise of a fixed frame-rate gain on every system.
- Keep resolution scale at 100% initially. If performance is stable and you want a sharper image, raise it gradually and check the same scene after each change. RPCS3’s guide recommends gradual increases; higher scaling can add load, and the source does not establish a universal best value.
- Find your game in RPCS3’s compatibility database and wiki. Read its current status and any title-specific configuration notes before touching CPU decoders or advanced settings.
- Change one relevant setting at a time. Compare the same scene and conditions so you can tell whether a change helped, caused a glitch, or made no meaningful difference.
Check the game before changing advanced settings
RPCS3’s compatibility list changes frequently, so a status is a snapshot rather than a permanent guarantee. RPCS3 defines “Playable” as a game that can be completed with playable performance and no game-breaking glitches. That label does not mean every system will deliver the same frame rate or that every visual issue is absent.

The game-page guidance distinguishes compatibility fixes from generic performance suggestions. Use settings documented for your title rather than copying a fix from another game. The configuration wiki covers CPU options such as PPU and SPU decoders, preferred SPU threads, and SPU block size; GPU options such as renderer, resolution scale, frame limit, shader mode, and ZCULL accuracy; and advanced controls including clock scale and accuracy settings. The existence of an option does not mean changing it will improve every game.

If a game needs a non-default workaround, use a per-game custom configuration rather than changing the global setup. RPCS3’s FAQ explains how to create and edit custom configurations. This limits the chance that a title-specific fix will affect other games.

Why a fix for one game may hurt another
RPCS3’s Journey page discusses the game’s sensitivity to low frame rates and Vblank changes in that title’s context. Those details are not general instructions for other games.
The Resonance of Fate page documents using the SPU interpreter to work around a freeze, while noting a substantial performance hit. That is a compatibility tradeoff for the reported issue—not a recommended global setting or a general performance tweak.

Change clock scale and other global options cautiously
RPCS3’s source code warns that changing clock scale from 100% may affect game speed unexpectedly. Leave it at its default unless the specific game’s guidance calls for a change and you understand the tradeoff. The same caution applies to advanced accuracy controls and CPU settings: use them to address a documented title-specific problem, not as a blanket optimization.

When evaluating a change, consider the outcome across four separate dimensions:

- Compatible with Windows and Android.
- 1000Hz Polling Rate (for 2.4G and wired connection)
- Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.
- Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.
- Frame rate and stability: Does the game run more consistently in the same scene?
- Image quality: Does a higher resolution scale visibly improve the image, and is the added load acceptable?
- Correctness: Does the change introduce freezes, rendering errors, or other compatibility problems?
- Scope: Is the adjustment global, or confined to the game that needs it?
Results depend on the game, RPCS3 build, CPU, GPU, and selected settings. Without controlled measurements for those conditions, a fixed FPS gain, an ideal SPU thread count, or a guaranteed improvement from lowering resolution cannot be claimed.
