RPCSX supports sound and controllers, according to its current FAQ, but it remains an experimental PS4 and PS5 emulator—not a sign that commercial PS4 games now run reliably. The audio-and-gamepad milestone was reported in August 2023 alongside a Sonic Mania demonstration; that report also described the game as unstable.
What the August 2023 update demonstrated
On August 18, 2023, IT之家 reported that RPCSX had added audio and PS4 gamepad support, showing the emulator running Sonic Mania. The report said the game was not stable and still needed optimization, so the demonstration established a feature milestone, not dependable playability across games. Read the August 2023 report.
What RPCSX says works now
The project’s current FAQ describes RPCSX as experimental and says sound and controllers work. It also says the emulator can play in-game with a handful of titles, while booting games from VSH remains a work in progress. These are separate milestones: audio or controller input working does not mean a game will boot or run well.
Controller compatibility and setup
The available project documentation does not list tested or officially supported controller models. A PS4 controller is a plausible option given the 2023 report, but that report and the FAQ do not establish model-specific compatibility. Check that your operating system recognizes your controller, and do not treat that recognition as confirmation that RPCSX supports every feature of the device.

RPCSX is an experimental Linux emulator project written in C++. Its official guide also documents a Windows Subsystem for Linux installation route. Because dependencies and build steps can change, use the maintained installation guide rather than relying on copied instructions. The project describes itself as a PS4 and PS5 emulator and identifies GPLv2 as its license except where directories have their own licenses; it also says piracy requests are not allowed on its GitHub or Discord. How to interpret the project’s release page
The releases page currently displays v20231111 as its latest release, with a displayed date of November 10, 2023. That page alone does not establish whether development has stopped or whether newer changes exist outside the listed releases. Check the RPCSX releases page for its current listing.
