If Windows reports that rpme3260.dll is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, repair or remove the old RealOne Player installation that is requesting it rather than downloading a replacement DLL.
The file is described as RealOne Player Demand Menus, with RealNetworks, Inc. associated with it. Available file indexes identify it as a Win32/x86 file, but the original binary, signature, and dependency chain should be verified on the affected computer rather than assumed from third-party metadata.

What the rpme3260.dll error means
You may see messages such as:
- “This application failed to start because rpme3260.dll was not found.”
- “The program can’t start because rpme3260.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “Error loading rpme3260.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “Failed to load rpme3260.dll.”
- “rpme3260.dll was not designed to run on Windows,” or a similar bad-image message.
These are reported error variants, not proof that Windows itself needs the file. The important detail is the application named in the dialog. It may be RealOne Player, an old component bundled with it, or a startup entry left behind after the program was removed.
The error can mean that:
- the file was deleted or quarantined;
- RealOne Player was only partially uninstalled;
- the installation was damaged by disk cleanup or a failed update;
- the DLL does not match the requesting 32-bit executable;
- a dependent DLL is missing;
- a stale shortcut, service, scheduled task, or startup entry still launches the old program.
Do not copy rpme3260.dll into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 as a first step. Application DLLs normally belong beside the executable that uses them.

Fix 1: Identify the program requesting the file
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
Before changing Windows, determine which executable is generating the error.
- Read the complete error dialog and note the application name.
- Open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Esc.
- Select Details.
- Look for an old RealOne Player process or another application that starts when the error appears.
- Right-click a likely process and select Open file location.
- Inspect the folder name and executable name.
- If the error appears during startup, open Task Manager, select Startup apps, and check for RealOne Player or an unfamiliar legacy media entry.
If the error appears only when launching RealOne Player, continue with the application repair steps below.
If it appears immediately after Windows starts, the visible application may already have been removed. Check these locations:

- Settings > System > Notifications
- Task Scheduler by searching for it from the Start menu
In Task Scheduler, inspect Task Scheduler Library for an entry that launches an old RealOne Player executable. Do not delete an entry merely because its name is unfamiliar. Confirm its Actions tab points to the obsolete application before disabling or removing it.
If the dialog names a different program, repair that program instead. The DLL name alone is not enough to identify the correct parent application.
Fix 2: Repair or reinstall RealOne Player
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
A damaged or incomplete RealOne Player installation is the most likely cause. Restore the complete application rather than replacing one file.
If RealOne Player is still installed
- Save any playlists or settings you still need.
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps > Installed apps in Windows 11, or Apps > Apps & features in Windows 10.
- Search for RealOne Player or RealPlayer.
- Select the program and choose Uninstall.
- If Windows or the application offers Repair, use that first.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the program again.
If repair does not work, uninstall it, restart, and reinstall it from an original RealNetworks installer, installation disc, system image, or trusted backup that you already possess.

RealNetworks identifies RealOne Player versions 1 and 2 as discontinued legacy products without further updates or security patches. Its current documentation covers newer RealPlayer releases and some older RealPlayer releases, but it does not establish that those installers contain rpme3260.dll.

- If the shortcut points to a missing executable, delete the shortcut.
- Check Task Manager > Startup apps and disable a confirmed RealOne Player entry.
- Check Task Scheduler for a task that launches the old program.
- Restart Windows.
If you have an original installer or complete backup, restore the application first, then uninstall it normally. This lets the uninstaller remove related files and startup entries together.
If you still need the old application
Use only an installer from RealNetworks, original installation media, or a backup whose provenance you trust. Run the installer by right-clicking it and selecting Run as administrator if normal installation fails.
If the installer refuses to run on modern Windows:
- Right-click the installer.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Try an older Windows version appropriate to the software.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Run the installer again.
Compatibility mode cannot make an incompatible DLL safe or guarantee that an obsolete program will work. If the application is no longer needed, removing it and its leftover startup entries is safer than preserving a broken legacy installation.
Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine before restoring anything
Time needed: 5–15 minutes
If the error appeared after a security scan, cleanup utility, or antivirus update, the file may have been quarantined.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for an entry involving
rpme3260.dllor the RealOne Player installation directory. - Review the detection name, original path, and action taken.
- Restore the file only if you have confirmed that it belonged to the legitimate RealOne Player installation.
Do not disable antivirus protection simply to download a replacement DLL. If malware detection is involved, obtain a second security opinion before restoring the file.
Even when antivirus restored the file, repair or reinstall the complete parent application afterward. A restored DLL may be damaged, mismatched, or missing dependencies.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix 4: Restore the complete application from backup or System Restore
Time needed: 20–45 minutes
If RealOne Player worked previously and the problem began after disk cleanup, an uninstall attempt, or a failed installation, restore the application as a complete unit.
Use one of these sources, in this order:
- An original RealOne Player installer or installation disc.
- A complete backup containing the application folder and related registry state.
- A system image from when the program worked.
- System Restore, if a suitable restore point exists.
To check System Restore:
- Press Windows+R.
- Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Choose a different restore point if available.
- Select a restore point dated before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs.
- Review the result.
- Continue only if you understand which applications and drivers may be changed.
- Select Finish and allow Windows to restart.
System Restore is not guaranteed to recover one application DLL, and it should be used only when the file and application previously worked and a suitable restore point exists.
Avoid copying only rpme3260.dll from another computer. Even two systems with the same application name may have different builds, installation paths, supporting files, and configuration.

Fix 5: Check whether a dependent DLL is actually missing
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
The message “The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that rpme3260.dll itself is absent. Windows may have found the named file but failed to load another DLL that it depends on.
First check the application directory:
- Return to Task Manager > Details.
- Right-click the requesting executable.
- Select Open file location.
- Look for
rpme3260.dllin that folder or in a clearly related RealOne Player subfolder. - Right-click the file, select Properties, and inspect its location and available signature information.
No public evidence establishes that this file is digitally signed. Treat an unsigned or oddly located copy with caution, especially if it was downloaded separately.
A dependency-analysis utility can show which imported module fails to load, but use a reputable diagnostic tool and avoid replacing files based only on a filename. If the missing dependency belongs to RealOne Player, reinstall the complete application. If it belongs to a separately documented runtime, install that runtime from its official vendor source.
32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
RealOne Player is a 32-bit application. A 32-bit process cannot load a 64-bit DLL, and a 64-bit process cannot load a 32-bit DLL. Windows 64-bit systems can run many 32-bit programs through WOW64, but WOW64 does not make incompatible DLLs interchangeable.
This means:
- do not replace an x86 application DLL with an x64 copy;
- do not move an application DLL into
System32orSysWOW64; - keep the DLL with the executable that requests it;
- reinstall the matching 32-bit application rather than guessing at architecture.
If the error says the file was not designed to run on Windows, the cause may be corruption, an architecture mismatch, or a bad replacement file. Replacing the entire application from a trusted installer is safer than trying several copies of the DLL.
Fix 6: Use Windows repair commands only for broader corruption
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
DISM and System File Checker repair protected Windows components. They are not normal sources for a third-party RealOne Player DLL.
Use them when you also see symptoms such as damaged Windows features, repeated system errors, broken built-in applications, or other missing Windows files.
- Open Start.
- Search for Command Prompt.
- Right-click it and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the application again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If both commands report that Windows is healthy but rpme3260.dll is still missing, that result is expected: these commands generally will not recreate a RealOne Player DLL.
When manually hunting through Windows components and repeating SFC or DISM without knowing what changed becomes the problem, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for issues and identify what needs attention; repairs are performed by the full version, and it is not required for this file. Reinstalling the RealOne Player application remains the definitive fix when its own files are missing.

Fix 7: Check drivers only when the error is part of a wider device problem
Time needed: 10–25 minutes
A display, sound, or media-device driver does not normally supply rpme3260.dll. Driver work is therefore not the primary repair for this error. Consider it only if RealOne Player fails alongside a wider audio or video device problem.

- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the affected device and select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Note the provider and driver date.
- Select Update Driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
For a defective driver, use the hardware manufacturer’s official support page and match the driver to the exact device and Windows architecture. Do not install a random driver package simply because it mentions multimedia or DLL files.
When identifying stale drivers across several devices is taking longer than checking each one manually, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for driver problems and show what needs attention; installation is handled by the full version, and it is not required to repair rpme3260.dll. The RealOne Player installation remains the correct repair when the application file itself is missing.
Why common DLL fixes fail
Random DLL download sites
A file with the right name can have the wrong version, architecture, exports, or malicious modifications. Third-party metadata pages may help identify a legacy filename, but they do not prove that a downloaded copy came from RealNetworks.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Use an original installer, trusted backup, or the official software vendor’s support and download pages instead. Do not treat a current RealPlayer installer as proof that it contains this exact historical file.
Copying the file into System32 or SysWOW64
This can create version conflicts, expose the file to unrelated programs, and hide the identity of the application that needs it. Keep application DLLs in the application directory unless the software documentation explicitly says otherwise.
Installing Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET
rpme3260.dll is associated with RealOne Player, not identified as a Microsoft runtime component. Install a Microsoft runtime only if the requesting application separately documents that dependency or a dependency check identifies it.
Running regsvr32
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. There is no public evidence that rpme3260.dll is a self-registering COM or ActiveX component.
Running it may produce an error such as “the module was loaded but the entry point DllRegisterServer was not found.” That does not prove the file is missing. Do not use regsvr32 as a general DLL repair command.
Likely causes and the correct response
| Likely cause | Correct response |
|---|---|
| Damaged RealOne Player installation | Repair or reinstall the complete application |
| File deleted or quarantined | Verify the original path, inspect quarantine, then repair the parent application |
| Failed uninstall | Remove stale startup entries or reinstall and uninstall cleanly |
| Wrong 32-bit/64-bit file | Restore the matching application build |
| Missing dependency | Diagnose the dependency chain and reinstall the complete application |
| Broader Windows corruption | Run DISM, then SFC |
| Obsolete software no longer needed | Remove RealOne Player and its leftover startup entries |
If no original installer exists
Do not build a replacement installation from individual DLL downloads. At that point, the safe choices are:
- Search your own backups, system images, installation media, or archived installer collection.
- Check RealNetworks’ official support pages for the currently documented RealPlayer releases, while recognizing that they may not contain this legacy DLL.
- Remove the obsolete RealOne Player installation if you no longer need it.
- Replace it with a supported media player obtained from its official source.
If Windows displays the error at every boot, disabling the stale startup item or scheduled task may stop the message, but it does not repair the old application. Remove the obsolete program properly when possible.

FAQ
Is rpme3260.dll a Windows file?
No. It is a legacy third-party application DLL associated with 32-bit RealOne Player.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Is rpme3260.dll 32-bit or 64-bit?
Available indexes identify it as Win32/x86, but those metadata records are not a substitute for examining the original binary. RealOne Player itself is a 32-bit application, so an x64 replacement is not appropriate.
Should I download the DLL separately?
No. Reinstall or restore the application that requests it. A separately downloaded file may be malicious, mismatched, corrupted, or missing required dependencies.
Should I install Visual C++ Redistributable?
Usually not for this filename alone. Install a runtime only when the requesting application or a dependency check identifies it as required.
Does rpme3260.dll need registration?
Normally no. regsvr32 is not a general repair tool, and there is no public evidence that this DLL supports the registration entry point it requires.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Will SFC restore the file?
Usually not. SFC and DISM repair protected Windows components, while rpme3260.dll belongs to third-party RealOne Player.
Can current RealPlayer restore it?
That is not established. Current RealNetworks documentation covers newer RealPlayer releases and some older RealPlayer versions, but does not confirm that those installers contain rpme3260.dll.
What if I no longer use RealOne Player?
Uninstall it, remove confirmed leftover startup or scheduled-task entries, and restart Windows. If the error continues, identify the remaining executable that is requesting the file rather than replacing the DLL blindly.
