Short answer: the desktop GeForce RTX 5070 is faster in NanoReview’s published comparison averages, but the result is not a universal rule. The RTX 5070 Ti Laptop GPU can be configured anywhere from 60 to 115 W, and the laptop’s cooling, CPU, memory, display and price all affect the outcome. The desktop RTX 5070 is a separate product from the RTX 5070 Laptop GPU, so the model names cannot be compared as if they described identical hardware.

Use the benchmark figures below as directional third-party data, not as a controlled laptop-versus-desktop laboratory test. For a purchase decision, compare one specific laptop configuration with one complete desktop system at the same game settings and on the same date.

What is actually being compared?

This comparison involves two different product classes:

  • GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Laptop GPU: a mobile graphics processor installed in gaming notebooks. NVIDIA specifies a 60–115 W GPU subsystem power range, so two laptops carrying this name can have meaningfully different performance.
  • GeForce RTX 5070: the desktop graphics card. NVIDIA lists 6,144 CUDA cores, 12 GB of GDDR7 memory, a 192-bit memory interface and a $549 manufacturer starting price.

The desktop RTX 5070 is not the RTX 5070 Laptop GPU. The latter is another mobile part with 4,608 CUDA cores, 8 GB of GDDR7 and a 50–100 W GPU subsystem range. It is useful only as a naming reference when shopping for laptops.

GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Gaming OC 16G Graphics Card, 16GB 256-bit GDDR7, PCIe 5.0, WINDFORCE Cooling System, GV-N507TGAMING OC-16GD Video Card
  • Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4
  • Powered by GeForce RTX 5070 Ti
  • Integrated with 16GB GDDR7 256bit memory interface
  • PCIe 5.0
  • WINDFORCE cooling system

That distinction answers the most common version of the question—“Is an RTX 5070 Ti laptop faster than an RTX 5070 desktop?”—without pretending that a GPU name alone determines frame rate. A high-power RTX 5070 Ti Laptop GPU in a well-cooled chassis may narrow the gap, while a low-power implementation can fall further behind. The desktop card also depends on the rest of the computer, but its graphics-card specification is not divided across a 60–115 W laptop range.

Desktop GeForce RTX 5070 Ti 8,960 16 GB GDDR7 Desktop specification $749 manufacturer starting price; included only to clarify desktop naming

The $549 and $749 figures are NVIDIA starting-price references, not verified current retailer offers or complete-system prices. They should not be treated as what a ready-to-play desktop necessarily costs.

What the published gaming figures show

NanoReview lists average frame rates for nine games across four resolution and quality combinations. In the page’s order—RTX 5070 Ti Laptop GPU first, desktop RTX 5070 second—the reported averages are:

Setting group RTX 5070 Ti Laptop GPU Desktop RTX 5070 Desktop lead in the listed averages
1080p High 166 FPS 192 FPS 26 FPS, about 15.7%
1080p Ultra 138 FPS 162 FPS 24 FPS, about 17.4%
1440p Ultra 106 FPS 128 FPS 22 FPS, about 20.8%
4K Ultra 62 FPS 74 FPS 12 FPS, about 19.4%

The averages cover Forza Horizon 5, The Witcher 3, Counter-Strike 2, Far Cry 6, Hogwarts Legacy, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, Ghost of Tsushima, Cyberpunk 2077 and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. The percentages above are arithmetic derived from the displayed averages; they do not make the comparison a controlled test.

These numbers point toward a desktop advantage in the compilation at every listed setting. They do not prove that every RTX 5070 desktop beats every RTX 5070 Ti laptop. NanoReview’s page is a publisher compilation, and the available material does not establish identical CPUs, memory, drivers, cooling conditions, game patches, power settings or laptop models behind every number. Check the page’s methodology before using one figure as a purchasing guarantee.

Why laptop power changes the answer

NVIDIA gives the RTX 5070 Ti Laptop GPU a 60–115 W GPU subsystem range. That is a broad span for products carrying the same retail name. A notebook at the lower end has less electrical and thermal headroom than one configured near the upper end, so its sustained clock behavior and frame rates can differ substantially.

The model’s published laptop boost-clock range is 1,447–2,220 MHz. This is a range for laptop implementations, not a promise that every machine will hold 2,220 MHz during a long game. Actual behavior depends on the manufacturer’s power profile, cooling system, temperature limits, CPU load, firmware and whether the computer is connected to its required power adapter.

Notebookcheck’s April 30, 2025 review update illustrates why the exact test machine matters: its comparison used an RTX 5070 Ti Laptop GPU configured at 140 W and an RTX 5070 Laptop GPU configured at 85 W. Those configurations are useful context for mobile testing, but they do not establish a desktop RTX 5070 head-to-head result. They also demonstrate why quoting a laptop benchmark without naming the notebook and its power limit is incomplete.

What to record from a laptop listing

  • The complete laptop model and screen size.
  • The GPU subsystem power limit or manufacturer’s maximum graphics power, not merely “RTX 5070 Ti.”
  • The processor, installed memory and storage configuration.
  • The display resolution and refresh rate.
  • Whether the advertised performance requires a specific performance mode or the AC adapter.
  • The asking price, currency, region and date.

If a seller does not disclose the GPU power limit, treat performance claims as less comparable. Ask the manufacturer or consult the detailed specification sheet before comparing the machine with another laptop or a desktop.

Why a desktop card is not a complete desktop price

The official $549 starting price for the desktop RTX 5070 describes the graphics card’s manufacturer starting point. It does not buy a complete computer. A fair desktop comparison must include a compatible processor, motherboard, memory, storage, power supply, case, cooling, operating system where applicable, monitor and peripherals.

A laptop quote, by contrast, normally includes the display, keyboard, battery, chassis and operating system in one purchase. That makes a laptop’s sticker price look higher than a graphics-card price even before the desktop’s other components are counted. It also gives the laptop a portability benefit that a tower cannot provide.

No current, matched retail offers were verified for this comparison, so there is no defensible universal value winner. Prices, stock and regional configurations change. Use the official starting price only as a reference point, then record live prices for the exact laptop and the exact desktop build on the same day.

How to make a fair performance comparison

  1. Name the hardware precisely. Write down the full laptop model, its RTX 5070 Ti Laptop GPU power limit and its CPU. For the desktop, identify the specific RTX 5070 card and the complete system specification.
  2. Match the game version and settings. Use the same game patch, resolution, quality preset, upscaling setting, frame-generation setting and visual options. “Ultra” is not comparable if one test changes additional options.
  3. Use the same performance state. Run the laptop on AC power with the intended performance profile and record that profile. Keep background applications consistent and allow the systems to reach a stable operating condition.
  4. Measure a repeatable scene. Use an identical in-game route or benchmark sequence for each machine. Record average FPS and, ideally, low-percentile results so a high average does not hide stutter.
  5. Repeat enough to catch variation. Run the sequence more than once and report the spread. A single run can be affected by shader compilation, background tasks or a temporary power limit.
  6. Separate the result from the purchase decision. A frame-rate lead is only one part of value. Include the monitor, portability, upgrade plans, warranty and total system price.

If you are relying on published reviews instead of testing, compare reviews that identify the laptop’s GPU power, game settings and test methodology. Do not combine an average from one review with a peak result from another and call it a direct match.

How to interpret the four resolution groups

1080p High

The listed averages are 166 FPS for the RTX 5070 Ti Laptop GPU and 192 FPS for the desktop RTX 5070. At this setting, a sufficiently fast display may make the desktop’s extra headroom visible, but the practical benefit depends on the panel’s refresh rate and the game. If the laptop’s screen is limited to a lower refresh rate, some of the additional rendered frames may not be displayed.

1080p Ultra

The compilation reports 138 versus 162 FPS. Moving from High to Ultra lowers both averages, while the desktop remains ahead in the published figures. This is still a setting where processor speed, memory configuration and game-engine behavior can influence the result, so do not attribute every difference solely to the graphics processor.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

1440p Ultra

The figures fall to 106 versus 128 FPS. The arithmetic gap is 22 FPS, and the percentage difference is larger than at 1080p High. For a 1440p monitor, this is the most relevant row for many performance-focused buyers, but it remains a compilation rather than a controlled test of one named laptop against one named desktop.

4K Ultra

The listed averages are 62 versus 74 FPS. Both products remain in a playable-looking range in the compilation, but the result can vary with demanding visual options and the exact title. A buyer targeting 4K should prioritize tests at the intended settings rather than extrapolating from 1080p.

Do not confuse the two laptop GPUs

NanoReview’s separate mobile comparison reports the RTX 5070 Ti Laptop GPU ahead of the RTX 5070 Laptop GPU: 166 versus 140 FPS at 1080p High, 138 versus 117 at 1080p Ultra, 106 versus 88 at 1440p Ultra, and 62 versus 51 at 4K Ultra. Those figures compare two laptop products and do not answer the desktop question.

The official specifications also show why the names should not be treated as interchangeable. The mobile RTX 5070 has fewer CUDA cores, 8 GB rather than 12 GB of GDDR7 and a lower 50–100 W subsystem range. If a store listing says only “RTX 5070 laptop,” it is not offering the desktop RTX 5070 in a portable shell.

Value: a decision framework that survives changing prices

If your priority is… What to favor What to verify
Maximum performance per desk setup Desktop RTX 5070 system Total build cost, monitor cost, card model and power-supply requirements
Gaming in multiple locations RTX 5070 Ti laptop GPU power limit, chassis cooling, weight, battery expectations and AC-adapter requirements
Lowest upfront comparison error Whichever option has a fully itemized configuration CPU, memory, storage, display and operating-system inclusion
Future memory headroom Compare systems with 12 GB graphics memory rather than assuming model names Memory capacity and whether it is the desktop or laptop product
Upgrade flexibility Desktop system Case clearance, motherboard support, power supply and future component pricing

The table is a framework, not a price verdict. A discounted, high-power laptop can be a better purchase for someone who needs one device for home and travel, while a desktop can be the better value for a buyer who already owns a monitor and never moves the system. Compare the complete ownership package rather than dividing a laptop price by a graphics-card specification.

Common buying mistakes

Assuming “Ti” guarantees a desktop-class result

“Ti” identifies a higher-tier mobile product within the laptop lineup, but it does not erase the power and cooling limits of a notebook. Check the configured wattage and independent tests of that exact model.

Using the $549 figure as a complete PC budget

NVIDIA’s $549 number is a manufacturer starting price for the desktop graphics card. It is not a current, complete-system transaction price and should not be compared directly with an all-in-one laptop price.

Comparing different resolutions

A 1080p laptop result and a 1440p desktop result cannot establish a performance winner. Match resolution, quality preset and optional rendering features before drawing conclusions.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Ignoring the display

A laptop’s built-in panel is part of the purchase. A desktop buyer must add a monitor, and the monitor’s resolution and refresh rate determine how useful additional FPS will be.

Quoting a laptop benchmark without its wattage

Because the RTX 5070 Ti Laptop GPU spans 60–115 W in NVIDIA’s specification, omitting power makes the result difficult to reproduce or compare.

Treating compiled averages as guarantees

NanoReview’s figures are useful for direction, but they are not a substitute for a named-system test with disclosed methodology. Game engines, patches and system configurations can move individual results away from the average.

Which option fits common buyers?

Choose the RTX 5070 Ti laptop when portability is part of the job

The laptop makes sense when you need the same gaming computer in more than one location, want an integrated screen and keyboard, or cannot dedicate space to a desktop setup. The trade-off is that you must inspect the power limit and cooling design; two similarly named notebooks are not automatically equivalent.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose the desktop RTX 5070 when the computer will stay in one place

The desktop is the clearer choice when you want the published desktop product, plan to use a separate high-resolution monitor, or value component replacement and upgrade flexibility. Budget for the complete system, not only the card’s official starting price.

Reconsider both if the listing is vague

Do not buy on the GPU label alone when the seller omits the laptop wattage, desktop system parts, display resolution or exact price. A detailed configuration is more valuable than a nominally higher model number whose implementation is unknown.

Bottom line on performance and value

In NanoReview’s nine-game compilation, the desktop RTX 5070 leads the RTX 5070 Ti Laptop GPU at all four listed settings: 192 versus 166 FPS at 1080p High, 162 versus 138 at 1080p Ultra, 128 versus 106 at 1440p Ultra, and 74 versus 62 at 4K Ultra. Those numbers support a directional desktop advantage, not a universal guarantee.

The decisive practical question is the exact laptop configuration. NVIDIA’s 60–115 W range means the RTX 5070 Ti Laptop GPU can represent very different machines, while the desktop RTX 5070’s $549 starting price is only a card reference. Compare complete systems, matched settings, disclosed test conditions and dated prices. Buyers who need mobility may reasonably choose the laptop; buyers seeking the strongest fixed gaming setup should start with the desktop and price the entire build.
