A report has linked a possible Ape Escape revival to Evening Star Studio, but neither Sony nor the developer has officially confirmed a project. The claim traces back to an online poster citing sources said to have ties to the studio, and the poster reportedly allowed that the information could be mistaken—or refer to a pitch PlayStation never approved.
What the Ape Escape revival rumour says
Push Square reported that the latest speculation names Evening Star Studio as the developer of a possible Ape Escape revival. The outlet traced the claim to Reddit user IcyPenguin28, whose allegation was relayed in an October 6, 2026 post by X account AsobiAr. IcyPenguin28 reportedly said they had heard from “a couple credible sources,” but that is an online source’s claim, not independent confirmation of a game in development. Push Square’s report.

Sonic City’s October 6 account traces the Evening Star-specific speculation to a Reddit discussion around October 5. It says the poster described sources with ties to the studio, while also raising misunderstanding, a red herring, or an unapproved PlayStation pitch as possible explanations. A pitch that was never approved would not mean a game is being made.
Why Evening Star is being linked to the series
The studio’s past work
Evening Star developed Penny’s Big Breakaway, and some of its senior staff are associated with Sonic Mania. Those credits may make the studio seem like a plausible fit for a character-led platform game, but they do not show that it has been hired to make Ape Escape.

Reported hiring and Tokyo move
Coverage also points to a senior 3D character artist listing seeking anime-stylized character experience and the studio head’s move to Tokyo. These are contextual clues, not confirmation: the listing reportedly referred to a “current project” and had been public since at least July 2025, more than a year before this rumour surfaced. The available reports do not establish that the listing or relocation is connected to Ape Escape, or identify the project mentioned in the listing.
Has Sony or Evening Star announced anything?
The reporting available as of October 7, 2026 does not establish an official announcement from Sony or Evening Star. There is no confirmed title, platform, release window, or production status in these reports. The distinction matters: a studio pitch, a rumour about a pitch, and an approved game in production are different things, and the claim itself reportedly leaves room for the first two.

For now, the Evening Star connection should be treated as speculation rather than a confirmed development. Its past games and reported staffing details explain why the studio is being discussed; they do not corroborate the alleged project.

The directly relevant existing game is the original PlayStation release, Ape Escape. It is a separate, already released PS1 game—not the rumoured revival. Current stock and listing availability have not been verified.
