The Queen Black Dragon (QBD) is a solo RuneScape 3 boss fight with four phases. To finish the encounter, deplete her health, activate the phase’s Dragonkin artefact, and repeat. Ranged or magic gives less experienced players more time to react to souls and fire walls; keep moving room in the arena and do not treat super antifire as complete protection from her dragonfire.
Requirements and preparation
The community-maintained Queen Black Dragon strategy guide lists Summoning level 60 as the fight’s only requirement and says no quest is required. It recommends completing Song from the Depths, which reduces damage taken, but the quest is not mandatory.
Bring a weapon and armour suited to your combat level, along with food, potions, and defensive abilities you can use reliably. The strategy guide lists named equipment options, but those are community recommendations—not an official Jagex loadout or a verified current best-in-slot setup. Choose gear for accuracy, survivability, and your ability to move freely during the fight.
Choose a style you can manage
The strategy guide says QBD has no actual weakness, so ranged, magic, and melee are all viable. It recommends ranged or magic for newer players because fighting at a distance can leave more time to respond to souls and fire walls. Melee is more demanding in practice: souls can appear unpredictably, and close-range positioning leaves less time to react to walls.

Antifire helps, but does not make you immune
Super antifire provides substantial protection, but QBD’s dragonfire can still damage you. The community PvM gear guide reports residual damage of about 750 from dragonfire and up to 1,950 from extreme dragonfire. Those are guide-reported figures, not independently verified current damage values; do not rely on them as a guarantee of what an attack will hit for.
How the four phases work
Each phase ends when QBD’s health is depleted. Activate the indicated artefact to progress. Later phases add more hazards, so watch the arena as well as the boss and avoid getting trapped without room to move.

Phase 1: Learn the attack pattern
QBD uses ranged attacks, attacks with melee when you are close enough, and occasionally creates a fire wall. After depleting her health, activate the northernmost artefact.
Phase 2: Watch for a soul and paired walls
The earlier attacks continue. One tortured soul may appear, and fire walls arrive in pairs. At the start of the phase, a magical platform appears; use it to reach and activate the southwest artefact after depleting QBD’s health.

Phase 3: Expect more hazards
QBD can summon two tortured souls, and fire walls come in groups of three. She may also temporarily harden her carapace or enter crystalline form. Keep enough open space to move around the walls while continuing to attack.
Phase 4: Finish the encounter
Deplete QBD’s health in the final phase and activate the last artefact to complete the fight. The available strategy-guide information does not establish a detailed phase-four attack list, so watch for the mechanics already introduced rather than assuming the final phase has a fixed additional pattern.

Defending against QBD’s attacks
The strategy guide says QBD’s ranged attacks can hit anywhere on the field. Protect from Ranged or Deflect Missiles can reduce them. She can also use melee attacks when you are north of the middle artefact; Protect from Melee or Deflect Melee can reduce those hits. Defensive prayers mitigate damage rather than replacing food or movement.
Fire walls are an arena-positioning problem: leave yourself room to move instead of standing where a wall can cut off your route. When souls appear, account for them while watching QBD and the incoming walls. Ranged or magic can make that response easier by keeping you farther from the boss.
