Rust CCTV identifiers fall into two groups: fixed monument codes that normally work on every map, and generated codes for Abandoned Military Base and Underwater Labs that change with the map seed and wipe. To view any feed, use a powered Computer Station, enter the identifier exactly as written (including capitalization), and select the saved camera. A camera you deploy yourself must first be named with a hammer and supplied with power.

All Rust CCTV camera codes

The list below contains 61 identifiers covering 12 monument types. The fixed identifiers are written exactly as they must be entered in the Computer Station’s Identifier to Add field. Rust treats capitalization and every character as significant.

What the asterisks mean

The asterisks are not characters you type. At Abandoned Military Base, each pattern receives a generated suffix represented by six asterisks. The suffix is tied to the current map seed and wipe. Underwater Labs use a generated four-digit suffix represented by four asterisks; each lab instance has its own values. A code copied from an older wipe, another server, or another lab is expected to fail.

How monument CCTV identifiers work

Fixed identifiers are intended to be predictable. A code such as OILRIG2HELI refers to the large rig’s helicopter view, while the OILRIG1 prefix identifies the small rig. Similar prefixes group views at Cargo, the silo, the ferry terminal, and other monuments. You do not need to be physically near a fixed-code monument to add it to a station, and Computer Station access has no stated range restriction.

#1 Best Overall
Blink Outdoor 4 – Wireless smart security camera, two-year battery life, 1080p HD day and infrared night live view, two-way talk. Sync Module Core included – 3 camera system
  • Outdoor 4 is our most affordable wireless smart security camera yet, offering up to two-year battery life for around-the-clock peace of mind. Local storage not included with Sync Module Core.
  • See and speak from the Blink app — Experience 1080p HD live view, infrared night vision, and crisp two-way audio.
  • Two-year battery life — Set up in minutes and get up to two years of power with the included AA Energizer lithium batteries and a Blink Sync Module Core.
  • Enhanced motion detection — Be alerted to motion faster from your smartphone with dual-zone, enhanced motion detection.
  • Person detection — Get alerts when a person is detected with embedded computer vision (CV) as part of an optional Blink Subscription Plan (sold separately).

Dynamic identifiers are deliberately different. The game generates the suffix when the monument or lab instance is created, so a published pattern is only a guide to the beginning of the name. Read the complete current value in the monument itself and copy it without changing letters or digits.

What you need before using a Computer Station

  • A Computer Station, crafted at Workbench Level 2 from 5 high quality metal, 1 RF broadcaster, 1 RF receiver, and 1 targeting computer.
  • Thirty seconds of listed craft time at Workbench Level 2, or 15 seconds at Level 3.
  • An electrical connection to the station. A station that is not powered cannot open a feed, even when the identifier is correct.
  • The exact camera identifier, with capitalization preserved.

The recipe and craft times are game values and can change with future Rust updates. If your workbench displays different requirements, use the current in-game recipe for your server version.

How to add and view a camera

  1. Place the Computer Station on a floor tile inside your base or another secure location.
  2. Connect an electrical source to the station’s power input. Confirm that the station turns on before troubleshooting camera names.
  3. Sit at the station to open its interface.
  4. Click the field labeled Identifier to Add.
  5. Type or paste the complete identifier. Do not add spaces, quotation marks, or the asterisks used to describe dynamic patterns.
  6. Click Add. The camera is stored under the name shown in the station’s list.
  7. Select the saved name to open the live feed. Repeat the process for each view you want to monitor.

For a static monument, enter the code from the table exactly. For a dynamic monument, perform the retrieval procedure below first; guessing the suffix is not a reliable shortcut.

Finding dynamic codes in-game

Abandoned Military Base

  1. Travel to the current Abandoned Military Base on your server.
  2. Find the communications tent and its local computer station.
  3. Read the full identifiers beginning with COMPOUND or OUTDOOR.
  4. Record every generated character, including all digits, and enter that complete value at your base station.

The six-character suffix is regenerated from the map seed every wipe. A value that worked last wipe is not evidence that the same value will work now.

Underwater Labs

  1. Enter the specific Underwater Labs instance you want to monitor.
  2. Reach the keycard-locked CCTV station module.
  3. Use that module to read the current identifier for the room or corridor.
  4. Enter the prefix plus its four-digit suffix exactly as displayed.

Because each lab can have different generated values, label saved feeds with the lab or instance as well as the room name. This prevents you from confusing two otherwise similar LAB or HALLWAY entries.

Setting up a CCTV camera in your own base

A player-deployed CCTV Camera is not usable merely because it has been placed. Facepunch’s setup instructions require a hammer for configuration, a unique identifier of no more than 32 characters, and a power connection.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Place the CCTV Camera where its lens has the view you need.
  2. Equip a hammer and interact with the placed camera to open its configuration.
  3. Assign a unique identifier of up to 32 characters. Use letters and numbers that you can reproduce accurately.
  4. Connect the camera’s Power In to an electrical circuit.
  5. Supply the camera with the required power, then return to a powered Computer Station.
  6. Enter the identifier in Identifier to Add, click Add, and select the saved entry.

Current item data lists the CCTV Camera’s consumption as 3 rW. The electrical system must therefore provide the camera’s demand as well as the station’s demand and any other devices on the circuit. If the camera is moved or replaced, verify its configured name again rather than assuming the old device retained it.

Choose a private identifier

Anyone who knows a camera’s identifier can attempt to add it to a Computer Station. Do not use an obvious name such as lootroom. A longer, non-obvious identifier makes casual discovery harder, although it is not a substitute for protecting the station and the electrical system.

PTZ cameras: pan, tilt and zoom

The PTZ camera adds pan, tilt, and zoom controls to the fixed-view concept. It must be mounted on a ceiling, so plan the ceiling tile and wiring before placing it. The Eye In The Sky update records that all cameras require 3 power and that the PTZ camera is unlocked through the Workbench Level 2 tech tree.

  • Use PTZ when: one camera must inspect several approaches, doors, or roof angles.
  • Use a fixed camera when: you need a simple, predictable view with fewer placement constraints.
  • Mounting limitation: a PTZ camera placed somewhere other than a ceiling will not meet its placement requirement.

Viewing through Rust+ has been described by Facepunch as an alpha feature in the original update. Phone rendering quality and the required Rust+ app version are therefore version-sensitive. Treat Rust+ as an additional viewing method, not as proof that a camera or station is correctly powered; test the in-game Computer Station first.

NO SIGNAL and WEAK SIGNAL explained

Message Likely meaning What to do
NO SIGNAL The identifier is wrong, or the camera has been destroyed or removed. Compare every character and its capitalization with the source. For a dynamic monument, revisit the current station and obtain the newly generated value. If the name is correct, assume the camera may no longer exist and test another feed.
WEAK SIGNAL The camera has been shot and is temporarily disabled. Wait approximately five minutes, then retry. Repeated immediate retries will not restore a camera that is still in its disabled period.

Private-camera troubleshooting checklist

  • The camera does not appear: confirm that you used a hammer to assign an identifier and that the name is within the 32-character limit.
  • The station is blank or unresponsive: inspect its electrical input and power source. The station itself must be powered before it can save or open feeds.
  • The feed remains unavailable: check the camera’s Power In, then verify that the circuit can supply the camera’s 3 rW requirement alongside other loads.
  • A name works for one player but not another: ensure both players are entering the same case-sensitive identifier; do not rely on a display nickname that differs from the configured value.
  • A dynamic code suddenly stops working after a wipe: obtain the suffix again at the current monument. Seed- and wipe-specific values are not portable.

Which camera approach fits your use case?

Approach Identifier behavior View and control Main trade-off
Static monument camera Published, predictable code Fixed monument viewpoint Easy to add, but the camera can be destroyed or removed.
Dynamic monument camera Generated suffix for the current seed, wipe, or lab instance Fixed viewpoint at that instance More work to retrieve; old codes become unusable.
Player-deployed fixed camera Your hammer-assigned name, up to 32 characters Fixed view of your chosen location Requires placement, wiring, power, and identifier privacy.
Player-deployed PTZ camera Your hammer-assigned name, up to 32 characters Pan, tilt, and zoom from a ceiling mount More coverage and control, with a ceiling-only placement requirement.
Computer Station viewing Uses the saved identifier list In-game terminal display Requires a powered station at the viewing location.
Rust+ viewing Uses the same camera setup Phone-based, version-sensitive rendering Convenient remote access, but the feature and app requirements can change.

Practical setup patterns

Monitoring a large monument

Add only the angles that answer a specific question: helicopter approach, dock access, an exit, or a loot area. Use a short, consistent naming scheme in the station’s saved list, but keep the actual identifier unchanged. Grouping the 13 large-rig feeds by their OILRIG2 prefix makes them easier to locate than adding random labels.

Watching several monuments

Create a station list in groups: oil rigs, Compound, Bandit Camp, Cargo, silo, ferry, Dome, Radtown, and Airfield. Save dynamic feeds with a date or wipe note in your own records so you know which entries must be replaced after a reset. The note is for organization; the game still requires the exact identifier.

Securing a base perimeter

Use a private identifier for each deployed camera, connect every camera to a circuit you can inspect, and keep the Computer Station inside a protected room. A PTZ camera can cover multiple approaches from one ceiling point, while fixed cameras can be positioned for redundant views of doors, furnaces, or roof access.

Organizing a large camera list

A station can become difficult to use when every feed is saved without a plan. Add the views you actually need first, then test each one before adding another group. Keep a separate note containing the exact identifier, monument or lab, and the wipe in which you recorded it. This is especially useful for Underwater Labs, where two instances can both contain prefixes such as LAB or HALLWAY but have different four-digit endings.

With a user-friendly setup process, you can get your camera up and running in minutes via the app—no technical skills required.

Use the visible prefix as your first sorting clue. OILRIG2 entries belong to the large rig, OILRIG1 entries to the small rig, and CARGO entries to the Cargo Ship. The letters after the prefix identify a particular viewpoint; they are not interchangeable. For example, changing OILRIG2HELI to OILRIG2HELI1 creates a different, invalid identifier rather than a variant of the same camera.

Planning for wipes and camera loss

Static codes are the easiest feeds to restore after a wipe because their identifiers are published and predictable. Dynamic feeds require a fresh visit to the relevant monument or lab after the new map is generated. Keep those entries clearly marked as temporary so you do not mistake an old saved name for a current one.

A valid identifier does not guarantee a working image forever. Monument cameras can be destroyed or removed, producing NO SIGNAL, and a camera that has been shot can produce WEAK SIGNAL for about five minutes. Build your monitoring routine around checking a second angle when a critical view disappears rather than assuming the station itself has failed.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Support on Ko-Fi

Power and placement checks

Power should be verified in two places: at the viewing terminal and at the camera. The Computer Station must be powered to add or open feeds. A private camera must have a live connection to Power In, and current item data lists 3 rW consumption. The circuit also has to support the station and every other connected load; a camera name can be perfectly correct while an overloaded or disconnected circuit leaves the feed unavailable.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Placement affects what the camera can see. Set a fixed camera where its lens has a clear view of the approach or room you want to monitor. For PTZ, reserve a ceiling location before wiring because the camera’s pan, tilt, and zoom capability comes with a ceiling-only placement requirement. If a placement is awkward, a fixed camera may provide a more dependable angle than forcing one PTZ camera to cover every direction.

Identifier security is part of setup

An identifier is an access handle, not a password protected by the game. Anyone who learns it can attempt to add the camera to another Computer Station. Avoid obvious labels, especially names that reveal a loot room or core location. Use a unique value of up to 32 characters, record it accurately for authorized teammates, and protect the station and wiring physically. Changing the saved display label in your notes does not change the configured identifier.

Fast decision guide

  • Need a predictable feed immediately? Start with a fixed monument identifier from the list, then add the camera to a powered station.
  • Need a feed from Abandoned Military Base or Underwater Labs? Visit the monument and read the current generated suffix; never fill in the asterisks yourself.
  • Need to watch your own doors or roof? Deploy a camera, configure it with a hammer, assign a non-obvious name, and connect Power In.
  • Need several angles from one position? Choose PTZ, unlock it through the Workbench Level 2 tech tree, and mount it on a ceiling.
  • Seeing NO SIGNAL? Check spelling, capitalization, camera existence, and whether a dynamic code is stale.
  • Seeing WEAK SIGNAL? Wait about five minutes after the camera was shot, then test again.

Key facts to remember

  • Enter identifiers exactly; Rust is case-sensitive.
  • Power the Computer Station before attempting to add or view feeds.
  • Static monument codes are predictable; Abandoned Military Base and Underwater Labs codes are generated and must be read in-game.
  • Your own camera needs hammer configuration, a unique name of up to 32 characters, and Power In.
  • PTZ cameras provide pan, tilt, and zoom but must be ceiling-mounted.
  • NO SIGNAL points to a bad or missing camera; WEAK SIGNAL usually means a temporarily disabled camera after it was shot.

Why does my Rust CCTV say NO SIGNAL?

The identifier may be misspelled or incorrectly capitalized, or the camera may have been destroyed or removed. Recheck the name and obtain a fresh dynamic suffix when applicable.

What does WEAK SIGNAL mean?

The camera has usually been shot and is disabled temporarily. Wait approximately five minutes before trying the feed again.

What is the Oil Rig CCTV code?

Large Oil Rig feeds begin with OILRIG2; small Oil Rig feeds begin with OILRIG1. The complete viewpoint identifiers are listed in the table.

How do I find Underwater Labs camera codes?
