Published October 16, 2024, the video was based on two hours with the PC build, so it offers a snapshot of a limited session—not a review of the released game or a verdict on how its systems work across the full campaign.
What IGN’s final preview covered
The preview presented the Zone as a place where moving forward meant balancing supplies, threats, and curiosity. Its account described tracking ammunition and hunger while exploring, investigating anomalies, and looking for artifacts. These are impressions from the preview session, not independent tests of the game.

IGN’s video description identifies the preview as two hours of hands-on time with the PC build. That short window matters: it shows what the previewer encountered, but cannot establish how representative those encounters are of the full game.
Survival meant managing supplies and exposure
In the preview account, ammunition and food were survival resources rather than incidental inventory. The previewer said going without food could worsen fatigue, aim, or stamina. The session also raised tactical tradeoffs: spending ammunition in a fight versus avoiding or outmaneuvering enemies, and using darkness for concealment while accepting the visibility challenges of nighttime. These were observed considerations, not tested recommendations.

The preview described encounters with human enemies, Flesh Mutants, and Bloodsuckers, as well as hazardous poppy fields. It did not establish how frequently these threats appear or how their balance changes through the campaign.
Anomalies and artifacts gave exploration its own risks
Exploration in the session included searching for artifacts with the Gilka-1 detector. The preview also described an early anomaly sequence involving the larger Topaz Scanner. These details suggest that investigating the Zone was more than simply traveling between fights, but the preview does not settle how artifact hunting or anomaly encounters develop later on.

Choices could affect quests immediately
The preview’s clearest example of a consequence involved looting the body of an NPC’s friend. As the reproduced preview text puts it: “You’ll have NPCs abruptly end a quest without rewarding you because you’ve looted the body of their dead friend.” The account describes that action ending the quest without a reward, making ordinary scavenging a choice with an immediate cost.
In the Squint encounter, the previewer faced a choice between a violent confrontation and helping him survive, then reloaded to explore the other branch. Optional interactions also led to side quests during the session. The previewer was hopeful that decisions could lead to substantially different outcomes, but acknowledged that two hours were not enough to determine how far those branches extended through the full game.

What the preview could—and could not—show
IGN’s preview offered a first look at how resource pressure, anomaly exploration, and quest decisions intersected in the PC session. Its strongest evidence was immediate: supplies demanded attention, the environment presented hazards, and at least some choices changed what happened next. The scale and lasting impact of those systems across the complete game remained unresolved in the preview.
The session is therefore best read as a historical pre-release impression. It should not be treated as a review of the released game’s current state.
