How artifact detectors work in STALKER 2
Artifacts are generally invisible until you search for them in anomalous fields. A detector responds as you approach, helping you locate an artifact that can then be picked up. Artifacts can have both beneficial and harmful effects; you can equip them in armor slots or sell them to traders. GSC Game World’s official artifact guide says any detector can reveal an artifact once you reach critical proximity. You do not need a higher-tier detector to obtain a rarer artifact.

2. Bear: a directional visual aid
Secondary comparisons describe Bear’s lights as helping with direction and proximity. That can make it a useful middle ground when you want a visual cue while moving toward an artifact, though the available descriptions do not quantify its range or establish a performance advantage over Hilka.
3. Hilka: distance information

4. Echo: straightforward proximity feedback
Echo signals proximity with sound and light. Its flashing becomes faster as you approach, and the official guide describes the light frequency as indicating direction and distance. It gives less explicit positional information than Veles in the available descriptions, but it can still lead you to an artifact: all detector types can reveal one at critical proximity.

- Want the clearest close-in position cue? Choose Veles, based on its documented location display.

Finding detectors and interpreting older price guides
GameSpot’s launch-period artifact detector guide reports that Echo is available early and lists Hilka, Bear, and Veles with trader prices in Yaniv. Treat those prices and routes as historical guide information: they have not been verified against the current game version.

Artifact hunting can expose you to anomalies that cause severe damage. GSC Game World’s official anomaly guide advises watching environmental cues and using bolts to reveal or trigger anomalies. Some discharged anomalies remain safe only briefly, so move through only when the route is clear. The anomaly detector warns of nearby danger with sound signals that become more frequent as you approach. Check the controls shown in-game for your platform and settings before relying on a specific button mapping.
