S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl was reported to leave Xbox Game Pass on November 15, 2025, five days before its PS5 and PS5 Pro launch on November 20. The timing left subscribers who did not own another license needing a different way to play through Game Pass. It does not show that saves were erased, that every player lost access, or that the PlayStation launch caused the removal.
When did S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 leave Game Pass?
Windows Central reported on November 3, 2025, that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was on Xbox’s “Leaving soon” list and would depart Game Pass on November 15. The report described it as a day-one Game Pass release in November 2024. This is a contemporary secondary report citing Xbox’s Leaving Soon page, rather than a live catalog record. Windows Central’s November 3 report also said Microsoft and GSC had not publicly explained the removal at that time.
How close was the removal to the PS5 release?
GSC Game World announced that the game was available for PS5 and PS5 Pro on November 20, 2025. The PlayStation Store listing gives the same release date. GSC said the PlayStation release came one year after the original launch. That makes the interval from the reported November 15 Game Pass departure to the official November 20 PS5 launch five days. The chronology explains the headline’s “ahead of PS5 launch” wording, but it does not establish a connection between the two events. The reviewed reporting did not identify a public reason for the Game Pass removal, so a contract change, business decision, or platform arrangement should not be treated as confirmed.

What “left stranded” meant for subscribers
The reported change ended access through the subscription for players who did not own a separate license. “Stranded” is a description of that access problem, not evidence that every player lost the game: someone with another license was not in the same position. The available reporting does not establish that save files were deleted or otherwise affected.
The practical distinction is between playing through a Game Pass subscription and owning a separate license. The PS5 release added another platform option, but the cited sources do not establish edition, price, performance, or save-transfer differences. Readers checking availability now should consult the live Xbox catalog; the reporting here does not establish the game’s current Game Pass status.

What happened after the PS5 launch?
In a March 26, 2026 article about the Cost of Hope expansion, Xbox Wire listed PS5, Xbox, and PC among the platforms. That confirms post-launch development and platform coverage, but it does not explain the 2025 subscription removal or show whether the base game is currently included in Game Pass.
